good luck Stezza ! hope yoyr backyard pond is still a pond and your brother is okay

thanks Buyip02, I have water in most rooms, and blown out windows - which kind of sucks , I hate dealing with insurance companies.

last time it was an eighten month fight till I said we were going to the newspapers, and then they reimbursed us the next afternoon

I had eighten months with my ceiling hanging down

not as bad as many others though.

we have electricity and a warm roof

Also trust that the Billabong in your back yard does not become a gigantic lake with resulting wet feet !

I feel for the affected folks.  Attached are a couple of pix from our tornado hit a while back.  Yeah, a real hassle, but I have to say the support was pretty good - tree clearing (we were a previous trimming client who got preference the next day), insurance, inspectors, etc. I hope you all get the same help.

So sorry to hear. Flooding, hurricanes etc... are no joke. Stay safe. I thought this brief journey down 3D sw lane interesting.

Yes, interesting summary.  I'm still clinging to Carrara and VUE.  cool

Both are good. Vue and plant factory also work well in Blender. Haven't tried the plants in C. Really amazing what an allrounder C was for it's time. I got the 8.5P on a recent sale just in case. Carrara wiggles it's way into your heart.♥ Wanted the 64bit version. It totally choked on a LAMH OBJ model though. It's weird cause after 100% import, which took foreeever. It reached it, but just stared blankly back. Lol. Then the other attempt ended w/ the rest of the OBJ coming in as some kinda blob. Probably, coulda converted it. I did get it to work okay in Blender though.

Yes, Carrara has become second nature to me, I don't have to think how to do something, just what I want to do, especially for animation.  And I've pretty much learned what will import and what to avoid (DAZ Studio files are iffy). One of my alltime favorite VUE model vendors switched to Blender a while back, but I just can't get my head around it and do not (yet?) have the incentive.  Happily I have a good collection of his earlier VUE models.  I used one in this animation done mostly in Carrara (one of the VUE scenes attached, the yacht is imported from a Poser format model which Carrara also handles nicely):

Very Nice! The last V of Blender (4.4) had some nice improvements, however, 4.5 is gonna be big. Just around the corner.

This is the 4.5 Alpha Compositor. Impressive!

8.5C also had the UI text increase. You can use Window options to help with that, but it causes weird issues often.Had a similar issue w DS.The higher res screens have to deal with that a lot.I always appreciate full UI scaling.

I created Headwax's hairy cucumber surprise

normally I put my bag of Cukes in the crisper and after a few days they go soft

    so

I put them in a bowl on my benchtop instead

and when I went to grab one today

    it was furry surprise

I tossed out 4 in total that were touching the mould as not risking it

    doubt it was penicillin

the rest all nice and crisp still so rinsed them, ate some and thoroughly dried the rest with a paper towel

placed them in a clean bowl and will be keeping a closer eye on them

the hairy cucumber was tiny but horrifying

so grey and fluffy like a little creature

@WendyLuvsCatz. Yeah, nothing like getting ready to eat something and finding out it's transforming. Lol. Had that happen with a classroom full of paper mache that had to be briefly stored once. Many had super long gray hairs growing.Oxygen is your friend.

spikey cucumbers! this thread will get locked :)

Here's a render of a three d object I printed out today, I asked in daz studio forum how to backe a displacement map onto an obj exported - like you can in carrara

unfortunately it doesnt seem you can

but Wendy put me onto a blender tut thanks Wendy !

even managed to get it back into carrara for a render

the wiggly bits on the edges arent aa loss but displacement  - the three d print turned out okay
