Ok, just so I understand this, I have Daz Studio 4.24, it doesn't support Nvidia 50 series graphics cards for iRay yet, is that correct?
Daz Studio 4.x will never support NVidia 50x, as the Iray version needed for NVidia 50x is not compatible with Daz Studio 4.x.
That is why Daz 2025 Alpha was released, as it support NVidia 50x.
It isn't the only reason for the alpha, apparently they were planning to release one even befoe the new GPUs were announced, but it is certainly a factor.
Well, if it's going in the right direction then I have no problem with that. I'll just stick with my older computer until the 2025 version is out.
Getting super frustrated. Software should be easy to install.
I'm hoping to get some advice if anyone els has had this issue and solved it. I have Daz3D support giving suggestions but nothing has worked so far that they have suggested.
I had 4.21 installed, and wanted to upgrade to 4.24.
Using DIM, I get "Retry" every time I try to install 4.24 for the Daz Application, AND the CMS install. All other items will install fine. I have tried removing and reinstalling several times, and still same error. It always fails to install. Note the necessary files are being downloaded as I can see the .zip files on the drive.
On PC windows 11, plenty of storage space and RAM.

Are you getting, and approving, a UAC prompt for DIM Helper? Software instalaltion will require admin approval.
Is it a known issue?
Transfer Utility doesn't work for me in DS 4.24.
It works like a charm in the DS alpha 2025.
Are you sure you are using the same command in each?
Yes, I do exactly the same in both versions of the app.
I'm having an odd issue in 4.24: If I duplicate a prop of any kind, both generated in DAZ Studio or imported, and then I add a surface zone to one of the duplicates (Geometry editor ->Create surface form selected), ALL the duplicates and the original prop gets the new surface, while I selected and modified only one.
To be fully clear I mean duplicates of the prop not instances of it.
In 4.21 if I alter one, single duplicate all the others and the original are untouched as expected.
This happens to someone else?
You must have been doing something additional in 4.21.x.x - the resources (geometry here) are shared unless they are deliberately made unique (e.g. by exporting the item as OBJ and reimpoting it) and that has been true, with the behaviour you are now seeing, all along as far as I can recall.
Just a thought...if you duplicate a prop wouldn't that also duplicate the shading domains? I would think that you have to create different surface groups for each prop.
The geometry will be identical unless one of the duiplicates is deliberately split into a new item (as I said, one way to do that would bve export and reimport as OBJ).
In 4.21 if I duplicate something, Primitive from DAZ or imported OBJ, they gets their own materials and stuff and I can alter them as much as I want.
What I'm doing extra to make DAZ Studio think I want the duplicated props to perfectly share any changes to any of the duplicates?
I think you can try by yourself: Just create a sphere and then duplicate it a couple of time using the "duplicate node" command under the Edit menu. Scatter the props around the scene to see them. Then using the Geometry Editor select a portion of the surface of one the duplicated spheres and create a new Surface-> create from selected from the Assignment menu. The Original prop and all the other duplicated spheres will get the same change... Even worse! The selected part are REMOVED, like when using the "Delete selected" from the editing menu, in some of the props.
Please try this and see if it happens to you too.
And since I'm here, I need to ask: How can I save the selection of Filament drawstyle when saving the scene? Everytime I save a scene with Filament selected and reload it, it reverts again to Texture Shaded, this makes impossible to batch render Filament scenes.
They use the same geometry by design, to reduce the memory consumed.
The removal (actually not-displaying) is a bug, which is being fixed - though if you ave and reload the scene they will all update and display the changes to the geometry. A future build (of DS 2025, new features are for the new version now it is in the process of emerging) will give the option to break the link when creating duplicates, though the default will still be to conserve resources by pointing to a common data set.
DrawStyle is not saved to the scene file, it is saved to the layout. You could use a Post Load data item script, like http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/start#post-load_data_items , to set the drawstyle(s) on loading a scene.
If it's being fixed, I'll wait for the fix, thanks.
This "Geometry sharing" is something new?
No, it has always done that as far as I have been able to tell by the tool behaviour.
I just upgraded to 4.24.0.3, and the buttons in the Timeline are all broken or gone, even when i revert back to a default layout. I don't understand how something like this can be released when it makes the program unusable! I can't revert back to an older version either. So i'm stuck with being unable to press play on my animations...
Please post a screenshot.
Ok, I mostly take it back - i uninstalled and re-installed, and it seems to have fixed it.
I noticed a bug with clothing subdivision in the viewport.
Load a garment with subdivision to a character, place it on a wireframe, and render.
When closing the render window, take a close look at the garment's subdivision in the viewport; it disappears from the viewport.
The garment still has its "high resolution" setting, but it appears unsubdivided. If you touch a morph or a parameter, the subdivision reappears.
When re-rendering with the bug in the viewport, the garment appears subdivided regardless (fortunately).
Note that the garment has a basic subdivision applied when it is loaded.
This phenomenon occurs on all the items in my possession.
(I posted an image of the bug in question after a render.)
If it helps.
The “view SubD Level” setting is “1” in your settings, -and also the “Render SubD Level (minimum)” is set to “1”, I suggest move the slider of your “view SubD Level” a little up and down and you will see the effect. I always had the “view SubD Level” on one but move the “Render SubD Level (minimum)” to “3” or higher if needed.
I just tried it, same problem.
I tried it at 3, and the subdivision still disappears from the viewport after rendering.
I put in a ticket months ago, yet still no response. I have an odd issue with the standard release of daz and when you create a file whether it's saving a scene or clothing. The "Hover" icon is a long stream of Asain chars instead of an image.
I have tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling..
Could you post a screenshot?
The first image is the normal result "Hover" image. Beta and Alpha both do this normally. The second image is what I get when saving any file with the General build. The "Hover" image is now corrupted.
First image removed for profanity.
In the General release go to Edit>Preferences and change the Author name to your preferred name, but bear in mind that if you now try to use File>Save on any scene saved with the incorrect name you will get a Save As prompt (Save functions as Save As when the author name of the scene and the application do not match).
Mystery solved ,thank you! No clue how that ended up like that.
I tend to use power pose a lot. Never really used it before 4.24, so I don't know if this feature was present before, but being able to go from hands to head is really nice. Why isn't there a shortcut from head to hands?
