Genesis 8.1 Character Skin Turns White

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a very frustrating issue with a Genesis 8.1 Female Character. Everytime I try and use her on a scene, her skin ends up turning white like this at some point. It always happen at random times. Never had this issue before and I would like to know how to fix it.

I took screenshots to show you the issue. A minute ago she was fine and then boom, her skin disappeared like always.

I hope someone can help me, thank you in advance. smiley

I have no clue without knowing what products you're using in this scene.... but just suggest you better upgrade your DS to the latest version (4.23)... or you can install the latest Public Build to test the scene.

Is the 4.23 version very different? Cause it took me 3 years to understand how to use Daz and I'm still learning. I don't wanna go back to point zero again.... sad

    Edit:

Also, after many tries, I finally found what causes the white. It happens exactly when I add the glitters from https://www.daz3d.com/stardust-glitter-salon on my character. This is using geoshell I think and it was made for Genesis 8. Yet my character is a Genesis 8.1. If that can help figuring out what the problem is.

Isn't everything that was made for Genesis 8 supposed to work with Genesis 8.1 too?

Not EVERYTHING, but theoretically this should, since the geoshell has all the same surfaces and UVs as the figure. Select the body or head surface on the geoshell and see what shader is applied to that, and what UV set is selected.

If I'm recalling correctly the body texture is named differently in 8.1 so materials that should apply to it, don't, when using them on g8. And with a geoshel, that means leaving it white.

Thank you for all your answers, I just found a mini tutorial that showed how to fix the issue! laugh : https://www.deviantart.com/ironclawroo/journal/Mini-Tutorial-Transfer-G8-Geoshells-to-G8-1-931797481

Can you guys tell me if the 4.23 DazStudio version is that different from the 4.21 though? Like I mentioned earlier I avoided the update until now in fear this version would be too different and need me to re-learn how to use the studio. It took me 3 years to get where I am now so yeah... Let me know!

You also can use the script from Omniflux to create the geo-shell node on G8.1 with Body / Head surfaces. Then directly load material preset from the products made for G8. This way is much simpler.

Latest version, like DS 4.23, there's no big difference... while it just has new features and has had some bugs fixed. So, the best practice is to install a DS Beta version (Public Build) while keeping your DS 4.21, just in case... For instance, I keep using DS 4.22.0.16 + latest Public Build.(4.23.1.47)

Correct, but if you apply a G8 material preset to a G8.1 figure, it will automatically switch the UV to base (male/female) and apply the torso surface to head and body. A geoshell should, theoretically, behave the same way.

I'm not at my PC to test, but if the figure is g8.1 using a g8.1 skin and thus a g8.1 UV, it may be that the geoshell is using the g8.1 UV and not able to automatically switch like the figure would?

The main issue is, as I recall, scripts which will have hard-coded surface names and so on that DS may not be able to update on the fly.

Order Public Build for free in here: https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta

    Then install it with Install Manager : https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/9074241/#Comment_9074241 ;
