Beginner tutorial for geometry nodes for 3.6 please

Can someone help me with beginner step by step instructions on geometry nodes for blender 3.6? I can't find any good tutorials for complete beginners just ones for people who already know blender. I've never messed with geometry nodes but would love to learn. If anyone knows any tutorials that are useful for people like me please send me or link or something. I'd appreciate it.

I'm starting to try to learn geometry nodes, it's quite a complex subject. You've already asked how to set a material on an object and use HDRI ,which is kinda basic. So -this is just my opinion- but I think you need to learn the basics before you tackle GN. You'll end up being put off altogether if you jump in at the deep end. That is just IMO.

valid point. where do you suggest i start. i use blender atm to edit premade scenes by replacing objects and importing objects and im working on making a simple practice scene.let me know what you suggest i start with. if you want to see the scenes im working on to give you an idea of what i do and don't know let me know.

    Hi @millithegreat

I see you are seriously putting in the work; that's awesome. While I admire your "just jump in attitude", I'm not sure that will work when the subject is Geometry Nodes. There simply are no Geometry Nodes tutorials for beginners. It is not a beginner's topic.

As @rorsdors pointed out, Geometry Nodes are ridiculously powerful, but you may not have the context to understand them yet. I'd become comfortable with material nodes first, get the hang of how they work, how the pass information around, as well as Blender in general, and then return to the topic of Geometry Nodes when you've got a solid basis for understanding them. Trust me, "fields" and such are not a trivial topic... I can't see it being good for anyone to be learning the basics and Geometry Nodes at the same time.

But keep at it, there are lots of people here to ask questions, and you'll get there. And when you do, you will never look back.

Okay that makes sense. I have a few things I might try with materials. I have a few objects and premade scenes I could screw around with. As far as the basics where do you suggest I start? Any tutorials you recommend?

I must admit once I learn the basics I tend to excel quickly as I had to learn the basics of Daz before I knew what I'm doing. Same with unreal engine but even with UE there's some things I don't know only because they don't necessarily apply to me and my medium of art I create.

On YouTube, I'd suggest Grant Abbitt or Ryan King. They explain things clearly and don't do it at a mad gallop like a lot of videos do. Good on you for trying new things!!

Nice! I'm definitely gonna take a look. It's good to try multiple engines. They all have their pros and cons. Also I noticed they look a bit different when they are rendered. Or is it just me not being able to see?

The latest BlenderGuru doughnut tutorial series has a section in it about using Geo Nodes for sprinkles on top.  Very beginner friendly, but Geo Nodes are an extremely complex topic no matter how you look at it.  I think Ducky3D has a ton of tutorials on the subject, but they can get rather complex as well.
