3Delight: Progressive Rendering is a thing that should be talked about more.

DISCLAIMER: These are non-conventional textures, i.e. the "painted/cel-shaded" effect is NOT postwork (PRE-work, actually). Because of this, lighting has minimal effect on the render. FWIW, the scene DOES have 3 standard distant lights and only 1 is casting shadows (Raytraced, 25% softness). However, rendering with all lights OFF or deleted gives similar results and doesn't have a significant effect on render times. So, with that in mind, here's a comparison of DRAMATICALLY different render times (11x) when using Progressive mode under VERY specific circumstances.

I went back and did a composite image with these parameters as well. As it turns out, the difference is not entirely insignificant. The render time drop to 19s & 24s which is a 39% & 29% increase in render speed, respectively. However, I would say that the results where the lights are turned OFF are unsatisfactory for anything other than checking posing, etc. - NOT a final render. The lights DELETED render (i.e. default Headlamp) might be satisfactory for animation purposes; but for a still image, I feel the added time is worth the final result.
