Maybe is time to a Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) at register time. I've seen the same spamming like 3 times.

I triied to "ignore" the spamer, but "ignore" doesn't seem to do anything. All the threads and messages still show up. I submitted a help request.

I tried the "ignore" button too.  I was going to send a message to a moderator, but I don't know who is online at this time.

  • just came on can't see any of that so must have been taken care of already next we'll probably see comments on our renders advertising get rich quick, dating sites extra. On a related note well not really but have you all noticed how a lot of people have been uploading photos not realistic renders but actual photos some like you'd probably upload onto dating sites? I've gone to look at their galleries just to see if they have actually done any renders and uploaded and nope just more photos some of them

You can use the FLAG at the side of a post to report it. That is what I did when I saw the spam post. I think there are moderators across the time zones but I'm not sure.

  • As Fishtales said, it's best to report it, though I think we've caught all the spam so far.  :)

"Ignore" hides his posts, but not his threads. (And combining the two: his first post in a thread is never hidden.)

Well, that is worthless in the SPAM case then. I wonder why the threads aren't hidden?

Anything but a report is useless with spam. SO please no help requests, just flag one post by the spammer and then we can catch them all

One is enough? Okay. So far when I noticed spams, I always reported two, so you see it's not a one-post spammer. But reporting just one is easier than reporting two. :)))

And you can see you have not one, but TWO on the ball moderators wink So that answers that question as to who is online. And yes, correct me if I'm wrong, we have dutiful mods around the clock.

  • We actually lookup the name right away to see how many posts they have to make sure we've caught them all.  If there's more than one name for the spammer, just report one per name, it's all we need, but a thread trying to report can be missed.

    Thanks, that's good to know.

WE do try to maintain as close to 24 hour coverage as we can, but naps do happen from time to time

I make $ 75,962,315.00 per hour while eating Bonbons on my sofa. Wait, no I don't... Sorry. I hate bonbons...  I did find a nickel under the sofa cushions once.  CAPTCHA (Completely Annoying Pesky Thing that helps Computers make Humans Aggravated) is great for some place, like one I rarely go to or have never visited, but no, I'm pretty sure if that was coupled with the login/logout issues here I'd become angered and outraged and a startling metamorphosis would occur, altering my body chemistry and making me throw Mr. McGee up on a roof somewhere... HULK SMASH!!

Sorry... Happy thoughts... Puppies... kittens... Unicorns... Bacon... Okay... I'm okay now...

Please, no CAPTCHA here, there are enough problems, it's a good idea, but not here.

Ummm... Bacon wrapped unicorns... I wonder what that would taste like?

Don't have a TV, so it's always online for me.

  • Thing is, the spam was mostly Chinese (I think), so I wasn't able to get in on the amazing deal that was advertised!  Next time I'll know to just flag a post and leave it at that.  blush

well tbh it's  a vienamese spambot sending messages in chinese about american universities or colleges.  very weird.

  • I always get CAPTCHA  wrong,  and end up retrying too many times and get locked out.

they always have a D that looks like a b or an l that is an I or an H that is two ll's

A system that might work would be where you have CAPTCHA for accounts that have less than X (say 10) posts. A spambot usually starts spamming immediately, and does not hang around, have casual conversations at first, THEN spam. :)

A CAPTCHA for users that don't have at least one complete order with a Total of at least $5.00.

Well, if the captcha was only to create an account, and not to log in or post... Another solution that cut spam way back on another site was simply add a click box next to the submit button that said : "By Clicking this box, I certify I am not a robot." no need for aggravating the user, just one extra click, and 85% of the spam stopped.

Before being allowed to post, all new forum users must upload an original gallery image of (Nearly) Naked Vicky In A Temple With A Sword. DAZ's powerful image-recognition bots will examine the image to confirm that it does indeed feature a temple, a sword, and a woman who is almost naked but not so naked that she violates the forum ToS.

I wonder how spam bot manages to avoid the sign-in/out loop... apparently it's back...
