Is Amalthea for Nivine 6 based off The Last Unicorn?

I'm just curious tbh.

I've never seen The Last Unicorn, ever, before a few days ago. While I was watching it and trolling through my runtime library I noticed I had 'Amalthea'

I hadn't put two and two together before of course but now I'm curious as to if she is.

The product page:

the unicorn bit specifically is making me wonder but...

Wondering if anyone else has anymore insight into this lol

Don't know the artist's intentions, but having seen that movie a lot... I guess I can see some influence, but it doesn't really look like her that much (to me).  More likely she was named for the nymph(?) from Greek Mythology
If I remember from the book, Shmendrik remembered the myth and that's why he chose the name once they needed one for the Unicorn.  But it's been a while since I read the book.

You can't say based off of! You can say inpsired by. Regardless not sure that is the case. But saying inspired by is totally legit, "based off" sometimes gets ya in trouble :)

Is Donald Trump based on Donald Duck?  They kinda have the same hair... smiley

Regarding Amalthea - I suspect there was some inspiration at some point, but whether it was the book, the animation or simply the mythological source, who can say except the artist?

Could also have been the Jovian moon.
