Just how hard is it to convert shoes that were for V4 to Genesis 2? I have quite the shoe closet for V4 and most of the shoes for G2F seem pretty drab and clunky....

in my experience, very hard if you want to keep the quality of the mesh.. I am with you, I have nearly every heel made for V4 and after trying all methods, I pretty much just use heels for the figures they are deigned for at this point.
I keep saying ... if a vendor could figure out a scripted method of applying at least half of V4 shoes to G1/G2/G3, he or she would probably sell a copy to everyone here.
Anyway, here's how I tackled at least some of the problem:
1. Try every V4 shoe. Flats come out pretty well right out of the box, unless they are "paired" (right and left together). Boots also tend to be easier, as you can hide the foot and toes.
2. For shoes that are bound L/R in a single file, there are methods for breaking up the shoes into separates. Do a Google search of the forum and you'll find some how-tos. This is especially important if you use the parenting method below.
3. For heels that only surround the foot, try parenting them instead of fitting them. It takes some effort to get them in the right spot.
4. For heels that have an ankle and calf part, well, these are the toughest of all, and I usually don't even bother. You can parent them to the foot, but they are uncooperative when you pose the human model.
There are some tutorials here, DeviantArt, and YouTube for some specific techniques. Some work for a given shoe, others don't. Some include using the Transfer Utility and setting manual dials. Be prepared to spend the afternoon testing. You really have to try a couple of methods to find the one that best matches the design of the shoe.
I think V4 to G2F is easy or at least not hard.
Shoes/Heels: A lot of plane shoes autofit very well. Some heels or thick sole boots have problems. From generation 4 there are two cases:
Non-offset: frontal part of shoe collapse with pose, but talón (heelcap?) of shoes match with talón (heel) of figure. Shoes are aligned with feet
see: SY A Reminder on Autofitting Shoes to Genesis 2 or 3
Offset: Shoes are completely displaced and aren't aligned with feet.

Hard part coming when you want shape G2F in a extreme feet shape, but in general case, few PAs change the feet shape.
Here's a process I put together (based on ideas from other threads that I haven't yet relocated...) for converting one set of M4 boots to Genesis. I did manage to do it for a second set of boots (but never got around to creating an instruction set). This MIGHT work for heeled shoes. Others suggested using Hexagon, but no one posted any instructions on how to do that. I haven't done this for any other figures. Hopefully it proves helpful...apparently, your mileage will vary...

Thanks all for the feed back and links. I have seen plenty of scripts for clothing and skin textures etc, but nothing for shoes. So I thought maybe it was easy and I just wasn't getting it. With the scripts out there I'm surprised there hasn't been an all for glory attempt by some of these script wizards to come up with something for shoes. Interesting that we can adapt V4 clothing reasonably well onto Genesis2...yeah sometimes they look a bit rag-muffinish afterwards...but what is it about the feet that just tears up the shoe models? You'd almost think starting a new model with the same foundation and work up but the feet are always in different positions, etc. With the way DAZ keeps unveiling new models, the poor shoe mercs are probably going to end up at the funny farm trying to keep up. G2F has been out for over a year now, and I'm surprised to find the lack of shoes for her, I think there are only like 2-3 pairs of pump heels and the rest are thick chunky things or a boat load of boots so is she even hard to model for from new beginnings or have shoe mercs said screw this knowing another Genesis model is coming out. If that is the case, maybe DAZ needs to impliment a Barbie like package....add some shoes in with the Pro bundles, like a simple pair of heeled pumps, they are always a clothing staple.
Well, either shoes for G2F weren't big sellers to warrant much new product development, or the still-active vendors that had V4 shoes found it more trouble than it was worth to convert their existing shoes. As you say, there is a decided dearth of G2F shoes, and now with G3F release, I don't anticipate that there will be.
While i wish for a one click solution also, think about it this way. Prior to genesis 1 and the Morphing clothes and crossdresser apps sold outside of DAZ, there was no way to use any previous figures content on other figures unless you modeled and rigged it from scratch. This went for clothing and shoes, not to mention morph support for clothing which was none existent unless you added it yourself.
Being able to fit V3 and V4 clothing onto genesis1 with any morphs applied was a complete game changer and now that type of convience is the norm and expected now and has made us spoiled, LOL.
Guess I will keep bugging the shoe developers with images of what I would like till they provide more for me to purchase, LOL.
