More experimenting with earlier idea.
G3F, the skin has no diffuse texture. There is a simple noise map for bump.
The eyebrow is the only texture, added with Zev0's 'Skin Overlay'.
While having actual skin textures is better, I'm pretty pleased with how it looks. At a greater distance, the lack of actual texture wouldn't be very obvious.
I also tried EVE 7 with Rune outfit
also used Jepez effects with emissive shader set on them.
unfortenately i didnt have the patience to complete the render.
So this was @80%
G2M, Michael 6, with Benjamin texture and a lot of tweaks.
Benjamin is my go-to for darker skin, possibly Skin Builder if I feel like taking the time to individualize further, or maybe Skin Overlay to add details. (Skin Builder and Skin Overlay have the added step of being best having the textures flattened, which I only bother with if I'm going to use the figure in a bigger scene or re-use the figure).
I really like Benjamin, but this is about as dark as I can reasonably make the skin. Doing more with it, I'd be better off desaturing it a little so I could control it better and balance with translucency.
And now almost the exact same skin on a variation of Ninive I worked on a week or two ago.
(I did switch to the Benjamin face that doesn't have a mustache)
Thanks for the acknowledgments timmins, tobor and wolf.
And that is how you fit several models into an Iray scene without the textures eating up all your card's memory. A fully texture model will eat betwen 150 and 300 MB of memory on the video card. Using 1 noise map and a 'procedural' skin reduces the amount used dramatically. Save the detailed textures for the main character...use the compression/procedurals for everything else.

Living Skin 2
Doesn't quite have the immediacy and realism of LS1, but its close.
This is my first test of Beautiful Skin Genesis 2 Iray Bundle. I used the following:
MDD Kelsey for V4.2 by Maddelirium availabe in the Rendo store - Skin only.
FW Lara HD - Shape only.
Kita Hair for Genesis 2 Female(s)
UHT Hair Shaders for Iray
InaneGlory's Photo Studio - Point and Shoot Iray
The MDD Kelsey skin does not have materials for DAZ Studio. The product description says "This Product has not been optimized for Daz Studio. Some MAT files may not load correctly in Daz Studio and may require some adjustments the function correctly in Daz Studio." Some months ago I set this skin up to use the AoA SSS shader so it rendered very nicely in DAZ Studio. I applied the Beautiful skin presets to that skin, using one of the lightest color skin presets.
I'm pretty happy with the look of the skin in this quick transfer to Iray materials.
Revisiting some old favorites.
So... how does one add an inline image these days?

Nice rneder. All it needs is a little gloss on those lips, they look too dry.
..goofy Leela pic.
Playing around with light temperature and a bit of volumetrics using a Skies of Economy HDR and Photometric distant light.
nice work, Kyoto.
Nice one KK!
I agree the lips look very dry, but this was just my first test. Wanted to see how it did with this pale, freckled skin.
playing with parameters, I prefer my modified version than the original one.
...indeed the skin looks much nicer and has a more realistic sheen in the modified image.
Reimagining of my first ever render
Just test some HTML code.
Messing with lighting. This has only one light inside the building the rest is lit by Emmisive lights.
All Emmisive lights on this one.
I used an HDRI with the Emmisive lights on this one.
...the first two look really good.
For some reason though I'm having a bit of trouble getting emissive lights to illuminate a scene using Stonemason's Streets of Old London. The light fixtures in the rooms do appear as if they are turned on, but no light seems to spill through windows out onto the street (and I am using the Thin Glass shader). I have them set to 50,000 lumens Also tried 150 W and still no light.
Daz default Iray settings, with the default HDRI. Materials are from the default Iray shader presets, and AllenArt Fabric Red Lamé, slightly modified for the satin parts. I'm just a little annoyed that it took 2 hours to render... I must have used CPU rather than GPU, but I don't know how to change it.
I found when I was trying a scene with Stonemason's SciFi Bedroom (just coincidence it was Stonemason I think), I could see out the windows and the stars after I converted everything to Uber base Iray but when I converted the windows to Thin Glass, Water, anything like that I couldn't see out so well. Spent ages tweaking everything I could think of, until I started again and didn't convert the Windows glass passed the Uber Shader and the windows was a good as it was in 3DL.
Can Iray do GPU rendering on multiple cards at once?
Oh yeah. Best Iray rig has 8xM6000 cards. (Current default VCA configuration.)
Best "Consumer" rig currently available would be an ASUS X99ws board and 4 x Titan-X or 4 x 980Ti cards,
Hmm. I'm in the market for a new machine around Christmas, and was looking at the Alienware Area 51 (which can have up to 3 cards).
For some reason I thought Iray wouldn't do multiple cards and was squinting at the Titan. But 3 x980s would be way more within my budget, and I can add better cards if I win the lottery or something.
The 980Ti is significantly better than the 980 and only about 3% slower (according to a few benchmarks) than the Titan-X. The 980 has 4GB of Video RAM and the 980Ti has 6GB.
The ASUS X99ws board has enough PCIE lanes to have 4 x16 speed cards at once.
If the price difference between the 980 and the 980Ti is a concern, then may I suggest 2x 980Ti and a cheap NVIDIA card, like the GT 740, to run your monitors. Unless you game. LOL.
I bought MEC4D's Unshaven for Genesis set in the recent sale. I was on the fence about it for awhile, but i'm glad I did. The promo images don't do it justice.
