Iray Glossy

reelyorreelyor Posts: 237

I've tried a search and haven't had much luck.

How does one increase the "shine" on Victoria 7 skin to simulate a wet skin? I have increased the glossy reflectivity but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I am not looking for water droplets or anything like that, just shinier skin.

Thanks

Try using the top coat settings.

In iRay, it's not called glossiness anymore. It's called roughness. They're the same thing, but inverted. Lowering the roughness will make it shinier. And to make things even more confusing, glossy in iRay is more like specular where it adjusts the intensity. To get shinier skin, you could start by lowering the glossy roughness by .1 and also lower the top coat roughness by .1. You can adjust from there.

What's weird is that you have three general modes:
    PBR Metallicity/Roughness

    PBR Specular/Glossiness

    PBR Weighted

The first has a roughness measure, with things generally going from 0 (very high shine/tight highlights) to 1 (very low shine/spread-out highlights).
The second has a glossiness measure, with glossiness from 0 (very low shine/spread-out highlights) to 1 (very high shine/tight highlights).

    So... yeah, that's weird.

There are a bunch of other subtle differences. Generally, you want Metallic for metals (duh) and other glinty types of things (rocks, plastic, etc?) Specular is better for soft skin, organics, wood.

At least that's what I've been told. I haven't noticed one heck of a difference between, say, .5 Roughness Metallic, and .5 Glossiness Specular, except Metallic has a 'metallicity' slider which is handy for reflective surfaces.
