Tut for UV mapping

For a variety of RL issues, it's been a few years since using Hex2. So I tried to refresh myself by going over some basic tutorials, however the list of tut sites had links that were no longer active. Can anyone point this lost soul in the direction of some current tuts? The specific issue I'm stumbling over is creating UV maps for a simple model I made. Nothing is working properly for me.

The best ones I've seen are over at Geek At Play, Gary Miller's sets 1 to 4. Have a look at the book one first, but there are others where he explains how to UV map.

Just to be nosey, may I ask what you are making ?

It's a plain and simple "horn" that I made by bending a cone object.  After not being able toUV map it in Hex, I took it to UV Mapper which spat out a set of maps for it. However, even using the maps I wasn't able to apply a texture in DAZ studio, so reasoned that either Hex didn't properly assign UVs or I messed up somehow. Here's a link to my "creation": The Horn

OOPS I created the wrong link, this one should work better: "The Horn"

UPDATE. To make a long story short, I went to the Geek's tuts, followed one, and it worked like a charm. blush  Thanks for the tip and the advice.

  • Were you able to UV map your prop ?

If not would you like me to show you how I would do it ?

Yes,  was able to get it done, but I'm always open to learning more tips.
