I was loading a base G2F and it looked....not right.
Same with V6....

Am I just addled from too much mesquite smoke?

No, that's not the default G2F. Looks like your base G2F may be corrupted....did you resave it with a morph or anything like that?

    Not that I'm aware of.

Dim should be able to uninstall and reinstall, right?

Yep it should. I've seen this happen before, just trying to reach back through my bad memory to figure out where. It has something to do with a character morph loading with your default for some reason...argh I can't remember. Will try to figure out.

For what it's worth, this is image of default Genesis 2 Female base and default Victoria 6. Definitely different.

Check Currently Used in the Parameters pane -- if there's a third-party morph that's been set to default to On then reinstalling G2F won't change that file.

Well first try didn't take...might need to reboot or open without first...
I've zapped victoria 6, G2F essentials and G2M Essentials just to be sure

Well, it didn't work...and there's nothing in currently used in shaping, and in parameters, just Render SubD Level Minimum set to 1.

    Sigh

    Fixed it.

Despite not showing up in any "Currently used", reading the thread jakiblue pointed me to made me think through what I might have installed in the past few days...nothing for G2F...but I did convert a v4 to G2F, and sure enough, when I looked under GenX shapes, one of the new ones was hitting 1.

Changing it's default and value to 0 and saving the modified assets, and things seem to be back to normal.

    Thanks for the help.

I appreciate the help...I'd love to know how/what I did to make this happen, but hopefully something I can watch for in the future.

Whelp....IT, or something like it, is happening again. I know what's happening, but I don't know why..or why not..

On some G2F Characters I load,  The come out looking wrong (note the Miku picture..the long one..below)..mainly the nose seems very creaed... What seems to fix the problem is, There's a V4 head morph created by GenX.  When I load anything, it's set to 0..doesn't show up as "currently used"..nothing.   IF I CHANGE IT TO -1, it seems to fix the problem.

If I delete the V4 slider (just drag it out of the data folder and restart) it appears to still cause the problem, BUT I no longer have the slider to change it.

IT doesn't seem to affect every character...some if I leave at 0, they're "correct".  But it's hard to say..

Silver characters seem most noticible....I think I've always noticed their noses most.

Below are several With/Without pics.. G2F, V6, Silver's Lenore (from DSCreative Mag), the Miku pic (I hadn't made a "With the v4 @0 " pic for this when I did it...that idea came later..so that was a recreation as best as I could).

Also is a G2M, who also has a Gen X v4 slider from a "will this work" try at some point.

I don't know how long this has been happening.. I only noticed tonight while trying to use Miku and she loaded wrong. Maybe it's been there since the original post.

I've been staring at this for hours..it's 2:45 am and I'm not bleary eyed..as I've been for a while :(. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

EDIT: Several images wouldn't upload (it just said uploading, but never finished).  So I put them and their pairs here:

Don't take this as condemnation nor endorsement of GenX. It does what it's supposed to do rather well. This seems to be greatly atypical issues.

I've hit on this some more...below are straight on shots of Miku. so it's definitly something wrong.. the Left is the v4 version, the mddle is the G2F version as loaded, the right is G2F Version with the GenX v4 head set to -1.

I tried replacing the GenX V4 with copies of the real ones, but it acted like removing them entirely did.. messed up with no sliders to fix.

I guess the next thing to do is to uninstall genx entirelly..see if that gets me anywhere.

its the data files that do it

I have a few I keep as bak unless needed and change to dsf when I do before loading a figure that cause this, not just genX morphloader too

something goes wrong in the creation of the data file occasionally I concluded

genX you can actually do this in the plugin

it changes them to bak files until needed

  • ScavengerScavenger Posts: 2,674

Thanks Jaguard...I guess the question i have next is "What are the data files"?

     In "My DAZ 3D Library/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 2 Female/Morphs/D3D Gen X/"

    There's:

    GXC_Victoria4.dsf
    GXC_Victoria4.png
    GXH_Victoria4.dsf
    GXH_Victoria4.png

Those are the files I've removed. to no effect.

Are there other files for it?

I can't find anything that does anything you're saying in the plugin.  nothing about bak files or anything.  I'm gonna try to figure out how you uninstall a plugin and get rid of it and see if that helps.

Well, removing Genx and uninstalling and reinstalling G2F didn't fix it, but  thanks to these two threads I've patched the problem:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/30605/corrupted-genesis-base-character-fixed-again

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/20718/

I set the v4 head morph's value and default value to -1. So, it's not affecting things...hopefully it won't mess up others, but I don't use the Genx V4 for anything..

This hasn't solved the problem....it's just bypassed it, so I don't know why it's happening or how to prevent it from happening again... If i remove GXC_Victoria4.dsf & GXH_Victoria4.dsf, it still hapens as before...

I'd still like to know how to actually fix it and keep it from happening again, but I'm finding an awful lot of patches for issues rather than fixes. :(

I honestly do not think it is genX causing it

but rather something done after saving a scene etc

i will when I get on my computer post a screenshot of the genX inactive morph facility it creates bak files is not called that, cannot recall what it is called, I seem to always stumble on this thread on my iPad

it may be one of the rouge freebie morph packs too doing it, a few on share get have issues, only other suggestion I can offer is isolate all your extra morphs by cut pasting data folders to desktop and trying in batches to find the culprit.

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 40,078

On Mac I am not sure how merging folders works, know there are issues, I am a windows user, so you may need to systematically go through each set

  • ScavengerScavenger Posts: 2,674

I know the problem is the GenX v4 head morph. This is not in question.

Why it gets loaded in a non visible way with G2F. That is the question.

I went thru the log after loading a G2F...nothing about the v4 head was there. I looked at the G2F Duf file..nothing about the v4 head was there. If i take it out of the data folder...the v4 head loads in at 0, which I guess should be "1" since -1 is how it's gotten rid of, and thus should be 0, but it's scale is off as well.

My assumption is that this happened at the same time as the july 4th post at the top, and I just didn't notice it til now, since then I solved the more visible problems. Removing those v4-G2F figures from them did nothing, nor did removing the entrire Genx folder from the data folder.

the disable but turns the morphs into bak files but is not going to solve your issue

I am at a loss if none of the other methods work as the only way I have had this happen is overwriting the original character somehow and not just with genX

removing genX will not fix that
