Made a feather in Zbrush and export as an alpha made a Normal Gloss and Diffuse plus trans maps then mapped it to a flat plane while it turned out fair using a hair shader still need mors cut out on the edges. But it's a first go for Iray.
Did a 2nd render with a BG and the edges look better, the 1st one was a Trans PNG overlayed on to the BG !
Oh goodness that is so cool!!!

My first IRAY render. Have made others since this but they are nudes I cant post here. Uses Genesis with hair rigged from a Dead or Alive model; the deal on my Deviantart page, aside from my own characters has been to use Genesis in a scene, line them up with a game model and try to shape match them as closely as I can.
Is there any way to get the G2 skin shader to work with G1?
Of course. You apply the base iray shader and then set up the surface settings just the same. I've made Iray mats for genesis 2, genesis 1, and V4 (tho the v4 mats were to use on genesis 2, not on V4, heh)
My latest Iray render, which is with genesis 2, Udane hair, and LY Dominique. And the dynamic outfit (love them, because they fit almost anyone) Mucha reverie.

Beautiful work, Alia!
This is Tatijana (G3F), with some head and body morph sliding. I call this character Lele. :)
...OK not a very remarkable scene, still some noise as I stopped it early since we are dealing with a heat wave here I am and my workstation is running 10° - 12° (C) hotter than normal when rendering
As I mentioned a while back I was working on a solution to using a Skies of Economy sky sphere and the Iray Sun. After about a week of experimentation (interrupted by RL issues) this is the first result good enough to post.
Okay, that's pretty sweet. Awaiting further product/tutorial. ;)
...not the best at writing tutorials but here goes.
First create a sphere primitive scaled at a diameter or 100,000 cm with 128 segments 256 sides. Change the viewport mode to "Wire Shaded". Using the Geometry Editor tool, create a fairly large "window" in one side of the sphere similar to an observatory dome that stretches from several rows below the sphere's "equator" to about 70% elevation. As can be seen in the Screen shot [Fig 1.] the upper portion of the opening is wider to compensate for the smaller ploygons. Next set the Y axis coordinate for the sphere to to to -50,000 so that the sphere's "equator" matches the level of ground plane (hard to see in the wireframe but it is there). This will remain constant no matter what percentage of scaling is applied to the sphere. Use the "drag" option (which is a bit tedious) as the other two draw options tended to also create an opening in the back side of the sphere.
To create the actual "opening", right click on the area which will open the Geometry Editor menu and first select "create" a surface named "Sky Window" then right click again and assign the selcted region to the new surface. After that is done, set the opacity to Zero in teh Surfaces tab and save as a scene subset titled "Sky Sphere".
Next, apply the Iray Emissive shader to the sphere with the Emission Temperature set to 6500°K and luminance to 50,0000 cd/r2 and set to "Two Sided Light" (make sure that Thin Walled is "On" as well otherwise the sky background will render black. In the surfaces tab I applied the appropriate HDRI .exr map (in this case "Sunny 1") to both the Base and Emission colour (see fig 4. below). I found that using .jpg file tends to not look as "clean" when rendered as teh .exr map.
Use the "Horizontal Offset"slider in the Surfaces tab to rotate "sun" on the HDRI map to where the opening in the sphere is.
The best way to set up the Iray Sun is to use the Sun Sphere and Sun Chain as it allows for easier positioning. Select the SSUn chain then set your Azimuth and Elevation as needed. You may need to rotate the sphere (using the Y rotate slider) to orient the "window" to face where the Iray Sun is.
[Fig 1. - Wireframe SS of base sphere]
[Fig 2. - Sphere without Emissive shader to more clearly show alignment of HDRI .exr map]
[Fig 3. - Sphere with Emissive shader]
[Fig 4. - Sphere Surfaces Tab settings]
Note, this will only work for scenes where the Iray Sun is "off camera" and not intended to be part of the scene.
If you inted to use the sphere ( or any others created) with different scenes, simply save it as a scene subset with the same name as the HDRI image so as not to overwrite the base file. The sky sphere can also be scaled as needed to fit the size of a scene and rotated a fair degree based on what sun azimuth is desired (however, make sure though that the "window" is not visible in the camera's field of view).
I redid one of my characters using V7. I really like the Iray skin shader she comes with, and it can probably be adapted for use with Gen2 characters too. And I can tell I'm going to have a lot of fun with the new face rigging and all of the expressions we can do with it. :)
v7 and all "out of the box" stuff as a test.
and cause i was bored and out of coffee.. post worked to toon it a little and add text.
Has anyone gotten a Pixar-like lighting set they'd be willing to share? I'm a click > load > render kind of guy and I'd love to get something similar to Pixar animations. I'm using G2M with Muscleman and TheSix' Animated Shapes, going for that toon look.
Bahahaha XD Love it!

Oh so much. I had to suffer no coffee until I got my favorite creamer yesterday.:ohh:
My son is hooked on coffee flavoring
excuse me for crossposting, facebook hates me today and my post only reached ~20 people compared to the last one that reached way more (???)

Thank You
WOW.. thanks so much April! So nice!
Wow! That's very generous of you. Thanks!!
Ikyoto!! HI!!! Always glad to see you here!!!!!
And thanks April! ! That's super cool of you!
Character morph made using V7 and the G3F head and body morphs, the fingernails for EJ Tatijana, V7 eye textures, and the base G3F skin texture set. The scene is lit with two mesh lights and one spotlight.
Click to zoom in and see the great details (especially the Kimono)
a mere WIP, but I like how "only scene lights" mode and bloom filter enabled are going on my perspective of right direction.
Just got back to fiddling with IRay and decided to try some V7 renders. Haven't read all of the "Show Us Your Iray Renders, Parts III-IV" tips for the new Genesis 3 presets but using tips I copied from an older post all of my skin came out way too orange... I defaulted back to the Iray presets and got this. Not sure why but she just seems too "shiny"...
Pardon me if this has already been answered.
:(
Very basic render and still not quite right.... I feel like I am going backwards
Why can't my skin look like MEC4D's?!
;-P
