I hope no more hd packs, I got about half and wishlisted the rest gets too costly for a hobbyist lol, I'm still trying to talk myself out of buying V7 but playing with G3F I do like her, I just bought mimic live I wonder if she is it will be supported soon
Well right now its more confusing than it was in the past. Because they don't state that V7 has HD morphs. I was also expecting them to sell an HD pack. But found some HD dials after I installed V7 and the G3F morph kits. Had no idea which product gave me HD morphs.
I think they should communicate this better on the product pages. V7 is HD, so brag about it. Let people know what morphs are provided in HD.
I honestly saw G2 as a step BACKWARDS. It went back to the two figure system, and had some strange bending issues, that I hadn't seen since V4. I never got a straight answer out of anyone as to why, outside of "Well, vendors wanted to make more money." I'm 110% G3 is another cash grab, that will offer very little to show for it.
The only HD morphs I have are Brow Slack HD, Brown Thin HD, Lip Contour HD, Face Old HD etc. Do you have HD morphs for the hands and knees and so on?
"all the kinks" isn't very specific. In many cases changes to a figure require a new figure, in the sense that they break compatibility, which is why new figures get released.
What's the point of buying a new 3D human figure when it's obsolescent as soon as you buy it?
I'm not going to buy any DAZ content until I absolutely need to use it on that very day. I'm not going to buy the stuff even if it's at a big discount. I'm not going to get stuck with a lot of unusable hair and clothes models any more. I'm sure Victoria 8 is already being designed to replace Victoria 7.
Not at home, not sure. Would be nice if they listed the morphs on the product page.
I know there were lots for the face though, you are right bout that. Crows feet and all that goodness.
Would be good to know about the rest however.
I am re-installing G3F, V7 and the morphs, starting to think something went wrong during installation and bugged. I do not have a single HD body morph.
Anyone else going to even bother commenting that they're rushing this out before G2M even has all the basic counterparts for G2F's characters? Where's Hiro 6, for instance? As one other poster said, They're already working on Victoria 8.
Technology changes over time, and standards never stay so standard. It's not possible to expect things to remain constant except for change. I don't think my life would be better with an Apple IIc personal computer. Oh,I also used a TRS-80 Model III back in the day. Should we have stayed on that platform? That's an extreme example, but I'm trying to express a point here. And I'm still quite fond of some of the software from back in caveman times. (I have Apple II emulation on my Nexus tablet!)
Genesis 3 doesn't invalidate the prior. Many still use Victoria/Michael 4. Many people are happy with iPhone 5. You don't have to move with this change.
Victoria 7 might not be right for you, and that's okay. Just because she's new does not invalidate your satisfaction with your library no matter what anyone else says.
At the same time, you can't expect all of us to stay on an older platform just because you don't want things to change.
I, for one, am happy to move to Genesis 3.
Hiro would be an exception, as it's a specifically stylised appearance, but there aren't really many counterparts which are 'needed'. Michael and co (or dial-customised versions thereof) go equally as well with, say, Lilith, as they do Victoria - and that's only covering the Daz Original characters.
He's off hanging out at some game or other with David 4.
But sad nonetheless. I agree about the others though. The less stylized characters don't really need a literal partner, nor would they sell very well realistically.
He's off hanging out at some game or other with David 4. watching E3 replay vids, lol.
I caved and bought V7 big mistake - If I cut back on the grocery shopping tomorrow I should be just able to afford the morph packs.
V7 has a really pretty face this is the first figure where I actually like the base morph
Obviously.
That's it, I'm sucked into the cycle of hatred and discontent. Or perhaps not, lol.
I liked David5 and Gunner, and was really looking forward to a generation 6 version of them. Michael6 just was not of as much interest to me. That and none of the generation 6 male figures I managed to get, had AltMats to make setting up scenes less painful.
I am for advancement of technology, however not at the cost of removing fundamental tools needed to get the job done. It dose not matter if it is 3D figures, software, memory chips, or even cars. Every now and then, something basic gets left out of the new, that makes using it more difficult then the old.
So here we are, at the gates of a New era, and faced with many choices. There are ways to move forward. Ways, as in more then One. And we need not all chose the same path.
Sure, sure. That's why new stuff for G1 totally didn't dry up right after G2 was released? Right?
.
Lots of that will have to do with how fast people gobble up G3 stuff. We kept seeing V4 stuff for a LONG time here because people refused to let go. Eventually it did stop but it was far from over night.
I can't speak much to the G1-G2 transition because I changed my shopping behaviors once G2F came out. Wasn't really around to see how that panned out.
V7 is a great product, but I can't find the genitalia normal map, and the genitalia texture for Genesis 3 (Jeane textures, by Raiya).
Did I missed something?
My first impressions.
I wont mention any fit of G2 stuff as I don’t rely much on premade cloths but rather make that in zBrush by myself.
In case I would run into such problems i would fix it in zBrush anyway.
The bad things:.
She has more geometry in some areas but actually less in some witch makes it harder to do user made morphs in some cases.
IF DAZ would had released HD morph import together with the model the new topology would be a plus but as they dont want to sell HD import to ordinary users, only content creators can benefit.
The genital. While nicely sculpted, they are in my opinion a disaster in other ways.
The geo grafted area has it’s own texture and the area in front that is geo grafted is about the same as the pubic hair area.
This means that the texture borders might show if not exactly matched to skin texture.
This will be a real challenge for the texture creators.
And its not only about the geo grafted area borders beeing visible vit the genitals applied.
It’s also about how the skin looks in the area without genitals applied.
I can see a clear tendency in the 4 textures that I have that texture creators smooths the skin area in order for the geo graft to not be so visible if applied.
But when doing so, they destroy the texture and make that area lack structure and look totally unrealistic even when the genitals are’nt used.
Of the four textures I got only V7 was really god, Jeanne is ok, Summer has visible smoothing (and some pubic hair, if I want that I rather add it myself in a more realistic way) and Adaline HD with a large smoothed area.
G2 textures does not have this problem.
The god thimgs:
Bends and expressions are better and except for the bad geo graft texture choice i like the new material groupings.
To sum it up for my part.
If DAZ want me to invest in any more int G3 the textures must be perfect without any visible smoothing and / or they have to release a HD morph importer.
But maybe they don’t care, after all I just bought almost $100 of G3 stuff wink
Whilst people may have felt there are a lot of gaps in the Genesis 2 Male gene pool, you can not say that for the female one, and since they seem to generate the most sales, I can see why DAZ would be scratching their heads wondering what new girl to come out with next that did not look at least reasonably similar to one of what we have already. At least now they can go back to square one and create an A7, S7, G7 etc and being based on a different technology can at least claim that they are bringing something different to the table.
Personally I would have liked to see more along the lines of Minotaur 6 and Lizard 6, whilst they would not appeal to all, at least they were radically different morphs that would have been very difficult to recreate with just the head/body morph packs. That said, RawArt and others did fill this niche pretty well, so it was not like we do not have a lot of different creatures.
It has nothing to do with filling out one generation befor moving on, The new generation was ready to go, and that is all there was to it (to the best of my knowledge).
select the figure, go to the scene tab, select a single surface (like the arms) in the surface tab. left click one of the little pic icons, and select Brows in the menu that pops up. If you don't see a map there for it in the folder-thing, it's probably not there.
(EDIT)
If it's a Prosthetic for an earlier generation, the maps are named and mapped differently. It will be looking for a "Hip" preset, not a "Torso" preset.
Think I'm going to have to get the basic G3F morph expansions (and, of course, the ever-excellent 'Fantastical' set, which I'm pleased to see - always has excellent teeth/ears), but wait a while until V7 Pro gets another discount.
No way I could afford both, but this way I can at least future-proof my ability to use G3 products - and I know the morph sets won't be this cheaply discounted for a while.
Why not get V7? It's affordable as a base figure, but I want the ability to do nude/anatomical art if I need to. That's why I went for the V6/M6 Pro options: It's the principle of the thing.
If it weren't for this, would be able to get a start on obtaining the various great Iray shader products you people have made. Sigh!
so now that the HD morphs are not separate from Victoria's typical morphs, how can I leverage the HD morphs without dialing in Victoria? In the past I could use HD morphs without dialing in the shapes associated with them. This was a powerful option. For one I never actually use Vicky as a base. And right now because I haven't transferred over a lot of my morphs yet I am using vicky but in small amounts. So I have a feeling that I would only be getting a percentage of the HD setting...
I've seen written elsewhere that she comes with normal maps you can use in place of the morph.
Does she actually come with full body HD morphs built in?
Or just some HD morphs? for brows and such, which is by the way very very nice!
My Victoria 7 is definitely not HD in the way the HD Add-ons for Victoria 6 is, in fact my Victoria 7 mesh looks like a non HD mesh even with subdiv dialed higher than normal, not detailed like HD added to V6 and subdiv set to 2.
I am really confused..
The extra detail when rendered seems to be displacement, or?
A mod said so, not sure if its legit though.
Well I am thinking the mod meant she is HD, which she is, but not in the way we wanted :)
I think we misunderstood the mod :)
I am still hoping and wishing for a HD add-on like the ones for G2F
Well HD is just a marketing term anyway, so it doesn't really mean anything. But based on prior releases you come to expect certain things. I think the creature creator pack for G2F was the first HD thing I got, and that set my expectations.
I did expect a full body HD morph and one for the face at least. Like Lilith had.
