Pose set with traditional phone

Does anyone know of a pose set that uses/includes a traditional landline phone like the sort that was in every home at least through the 70s-80s-90s (and probably before and to a certain extent, after)? There's multiple sets with cell phones but for retro scenes a classic phone set would be nice. Thanks!

LOL, I feel old that I have to describe the phone my friends and I used as teenagers as "retro." smiley

There are a number of sets that include poses with classic old-style phones from the 40s, but the phone style you're looking for is a pretty rare bird.  That said, you can find them and there's a classic rotary version included in this set https://www.daz3d.com/tele-phony which does have the handset as a seperate prop, and a "princess style" set with poses for G8F in https://www.daz3d.com/z-pin-up-mania-props-and-poses-for-genesis-8-female Between the two of those, you should be able to make just about anything you want, and if the cords don't work for your pose you can use this set of props from SIckleyield to replace it https://www.daz3d.com/sy-dforce-ropes-vines-and-tubes  I know I have a pushbutton version that came out of an office set as well, but memory's failing me at the moment.  Finally, there's also a cheap freebie set that includes a wall version over at shareCG https://sharecg.com/v/63274/gallery/11/Poser/Old-Phones-and-1960s-Office

Oh, and as for still being in use, I and many folks I know still maintain a classic landline phone for the simple reason that the basic models don't require any power to operate beyond what comes out of the phone jack, so when the power is out and the cel service is out, the landline is still functional. Rather usefull when you're in a place with hurricanes, blizzards, martian invasions, etc.

  • If you have Bone Minion or an appropriate pose converter, you could use these old sets, but they are definitely pinup types:

https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/123508/on-the-phone-pin-up-poses-for-v4-the-vintage-set. This one uses The free set Cybersox linked.

Most of the office sets have more modern landline phones. A lot of  Fugazi1968's sets also have landlines in them. But they may not be with separate handsets or rigged.

I still have a landline as blizzards are quite common where I am. Plus I use the landline to call my cell when I can't find it LOL

I actually still have a landline IRL - though one using more modern equipment than the 80s-era whimsy I had in mind when starting this thread - as I used to spend a lot of time on the phone in client calls.

We don't have blizzards where I live now, but I still don't really trust cell phones in a bigger emergency. I don't know if it would still be the case, but I was on the road at a client site back 20 years ago when the power went out across the Eastern US. Everyone else grabbed their cell phones, which of course did not work. I walked up to a phone booth (remember those? smiley ), called a friendly client on the other side of the country with her company's 1-800 number, told her what was up and had her get a message to my husband back home.

Thanks for the suggestions on the thread. I have picked up a couple of these.

Here, I'll make you feel even older:

Something that performs modern functions but is in the form of something from an older time is "retro".
Something that is the original article used for its proscribed function is "vintage".

So, rotary phones and touch-tone phones with actual buttons, a receiver wired to the base, and the base wired to the wall (mounted, in some cases), are vintage, while those antique looking phones that have push-buttons/touch-tone where a rotary dial should be are retro.

Thanks for coming to my OLD talk.

Wow, even my parents gave up having a land line. They're nigh-80.

    This is cute: https://www.daz3d.com/pay-phones

And there are a lot of phones on renderhub.

As for the poses, you can use a cell phone (not a selfie, of course) as the base and then use the hand pose from a more cylindric item, like a hammer. Replace the hammer with the handset.

  • Ha! "Vintage..." Yes, indeed, I actually had a rotary phone in the 1980s and early 1990s, which traveled with me for a while longer in a box of old stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion on using a hand pose for a hammer or similar.

the only reason I got rid of my landline was cost and too many spam calls

I still only use a dumb phone, a retro Nokia Android based one that's like the early types

I don't like browsing etc on phones, I have an iPad for that

I also don't understand why when there are so many retro sets and fashions there aren't more incidental retro 3D stuff like phones, faxes, pagers, typewriters etc, are a few retro computers and gaming consoles but to set the scenes one needs the appropriate props, there is definitely a niche waiting for some PA to make a collection of retro accessories and poses.

If you're still looking, for Genesis 3, props in one product, poses in another:

If you have Bone Minions, loading the phone parented to the minion should get you in a good starting position (I tried with n_alexandru's converter, but it didn't change the phone's pose).

  • We have an analogue Betacom Candlestick phone. We bought it because of my MIL. Her voice was the perfect frequency for analogue transmission and it HURT to listen with the earpiece within 2ft/600mm of our ears. The candlestick phone was perfect because the earpiece could be on the hall side & we could still hear her. Regards, Richard
  • We still have a landline but the phones are a (still available) touch tone desk phone bundled with a cordless handset & charger base for the bedroom.

We need it because we live atop a mountain and the nearest cell tower is about 7 miles away. When at home we can send/receive texts on our Android smartphones but calls won't go in or out.

Do you not have WiFi calling? I thought pretty much all cell providers supported that these days and pretty much every phone released in the last decade does.

  • For talking on the phone poses alone (no props), you could try applying aniblocks from this package and then converting them to whatever current Genesis character you are working on:

As an aside, here's a pose set that includes props for payphones (US and UK) as well as present day cellphones, should you ever have need of it.

Wouldn't another way to do this is use readily available cellphone poses and then use the "Gripping Fingers" and/or the "Gripping Hand" poses to adjust the hand to accommodate the handset? Some of the cellphone poses have partials that make them even more versatile.

  • Do need realistic handsets to be available, though, and there aren't too many freebies or paid for ones.

There is a freebie here: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/85995/dect Guy91600's promo images really don't do his freebies justice, so it should be possible to make it look better than in the promo with tweaking the materials to smooth away the blockiness.

As I said, renderhub has a bunch. Try searching "phone handset" over there. "Touch Tone Phone" also bring you to a few decent one. Might need to edit some of them to separate the handsets. :)

If you are looking for an old style, ie 1970s-1980s style phones with the handset attached to the phone via a cord, there are a number of them in the store, mostly as props in environment sets. However almost all of them are static props, so could not be used in a pose where a person is using it for a call. This is the only old style phone that can be posed that I am aware of, it is in this product: https://www.daz3d.com/tele-phony

This is a really old product, from 2009, and is in poser format, but can be converted into a Daz Studio prop whilst retaining all of the bones. The main coil has 35 bones, which can be a pain to pose correctly, but at least it can be posed, unlike most of the modern props here.

  • I see a great opportunity for a PA to offer a "phones across time" set with common phones at various eras in different settings (home, professional), with some material options and poses. wink  Any takers? I'll buy it!
