Time to wake this thread up! I dont get the iray vehicle results but still happy with lux results. My 1st time using G2F . Kyoto SSS also darkens skin in lux

    Thanks Bob!

I'm sure your stuff is getting better, these are some of the best I've seen.

I cant take all the credit. Reality 4 is that much better then R2. The material translation is simple combined with my experience using it. Renders do take much longer so that is the trade off. I am looking forward to Reality 4.1 and Lux 1.5 These are commissioned project I have the funds to buy my 3rd notebook this time I am getting a gaming machine with a killer heat synch..

It works well for you. Iray doesn't interest me as it makes no use of my GPU. I have Luxus which does but I've yet to try that. Hopefully next week I'll have my new cooler case all done and I can render to my heart's content.

That's one thing I got right is the heat synch in the beast never runs hot! I agree that's one thing that has disappointed me as well. I built the beast with a powerful AMD card to support Reality Lux but hybrid and GPU rendering has never worked well. Then good news is lux 1.5 will render much faster ( what now takes 20 minutes will take 3) like you say stick with what works...

Sorry. My sincerest apologies, however, the last thing I try to do is be the grammar and spelling police, but there a few things that drive me nuts. ;-)

The proper use and spelling is heat "sink." Synch is actually a contraction of synchronize or synchronization.

If you really want the veins in my temples to throb, just start using orientated instead of oriented or orientation. I have been known to yell at the TV screen when a local newscaster makes that mistake!

Really !........ Somebody looking to stir it up on an internet discussion forum.. Nahh that never happens.
Sh*t Nahh has red spelling lines under it oh no what to do!!

I did say I was sorry for pointing it out. If I had intended it to be offensive or "stir sh*t up," I would have responded as you just did.

If you want to be offended that is your choice. If you want to learn something and not sound like a computer n00b, that is also your choice.

Found my my new Dell notebook. Not quite as ventilated as I would of liked but it's 16 Gig with a Radeon 4G card for under a grand. Got 3 year warranty added so if it does melt down they will repair it plus I still have the beast! Sticking with ADM card since it looks like I will be sticking with the luxrender. Ready to GPU render on both machines once it gets sorted out.

Now that does sound appealing 3DL render times from Lux, bring it on!

The only way I'd ventilate a Dell laptop is with an AK47! I'm certain there are ways you can build a laptop in the same way you would a PC. As I have a PC it's not something I've really looked into.

Pretty good, did you pay for Maxwell Render? There are things afoot where you could render like that with 3Delight for free.

I still have my HP Laptop, I use it as a back up. Once the warranty runs out and you delete all the manufacturer bloatware they are not bad at all. I paid £500 for it and it was worth double that new.

Did that a long time ago when I popped in the SSD drive 2 years back & had bloatware free win 7 re installed on it. I am going to make an offer on an Asus laptop with 256 SSD 1T drive 24G with nvidia 4 G card later...

It looks like in the latest DS 4.8 beta (RC3), lights using depth shadows maps does not produce artefacts any longer,
so one can use many light sets (like Lantios lights) again.
Below is an example 3Delight render using Arah3D light set.

    Interesting,

From what I can recall, shadow artifacts were mainly down to the shadow bias settings, Blackhearted always recommended a setting of 0.220 for clean shadows. I mostly used raytraced ones but will have a look at things in more depth when 4.8 is released.

    No, I was just dreaming.
I have just rendered in DS beta Monique 6 with lights/camera preset from
    http://www.daz3d.com/set-the-mood
that use many lights with depth shadow maps and the artifacts are still there.
So 3Delight in the DS 4.8 beta RC3 is still broken, when using such lights :(

With shadow bias 0.22, the render looks a bit different...
There is some mad painter with green paint inside 3Delight render engine.

    Oh, oh dear,

DS and Poser must be different when it comes to shadow bias then. My bad if that setting made things worse. Maybe everyone assumes that people use raytraced shadows these days!?

I have replaced shadows in lights to the raytraced ones and below is the result.
Rendering Time: 1 hour 55 minutes 53 seconds
Now, I remember, why I did not like such replacement - huge difference in rendering time.
With depth shadow maps rendering took only 8 minutes 8 seconds.

I have played around with shader builder goodies, because they works again in DS 4.8 beta RC3.
I have used ambient light, fog camera and some shaders on the chair (painted plastic and metal).
Below is 3Delight render of the scene.
Rendering Time: 1 minute 45 seconds

And just for fun - exactly the same scene without any changes - rendered in Iray.
Rendering Time: 25 minutes 30 seconds
