That's a great water shader. I don't think I've seen spa/hot spring water executed that well.
Aww, thanks!
Most of it was the free extras that I think got cherry picked out of : http://www.daz3d.com/aikanaro
(The pool and some of the architecture)
I then applied Iray Water.
The last, important, step was put a Plane emitting blue at the bottom of the pool and tweaking the water's SSS to provide a nice underglow. Without that, the water was opaque/reflective (which was still kind of cool)
Thanks for sharing methods! I have to try it!
Oh, also, after a lot of experimentation, I found that .5 base thin film Fresnel 1.3 IOR did a good job at conveying 'wet skin,' with skin bump set to 5.
All my attempts to use top coat ended up looking like they were greased or metal.
A still life study of artifacts unearthed from a recent Mec4D expedition ;-)
Using thin film on the base shader layer didn't kill your translucency/SSS?
Not that I noticed, but the figures aren't strongly backlit... maybe I didn't notice.
Upcoming character for my main comic.
The real version doesn't have a bikini top, but hey.
(Clothes are dynamic, which is handy with four arms...)
I was working a similar idea on a smaller scale. I tried boosting the Glossy Reflectivity of the water shader, which might have helped some, but I too am looking for a better mirror effect. I'm currently experimenting with increasing the Metalicity of the water which is working somewhat for me in the dark of the well, but might not look right in your glass. Is there a better control to tweak?
As an aside, this might be another one of those impossible shots, not to be taken in the real world. I've got the Exposure Value down to 4, which seems to be the equivalent of four seconds with shutter open. Her photometric light spell is being cast at six lumens. It's my opinion that no wee fey could ever possibly hold still for four seconds, and if she could another one would come up behind her and push her into the bucket.
else render with Mei Lin head + V6 HD body )
Nice renders everyone, I had some fun with my old Gen1 Eyegore character lolo
the candle is implanted as u can see
it was crazy fast rendering speed for the full HD 1 min only
Your characters just look awesome!
wow he looks great! And the render time is really crazy!
What gpu are you using?
4 hours CPU only.
Another of my renders using Raiya's handsome new character, Gareth. http://www.daz3d.com/gareth-hd-for-michael-6
Scene lit with HDRI Sierra Madre B and the Camera headlamp was set at 0.20
My own custom skin shader settings used.
Credit for use of HDRI Sierra Madre B kindly given free by http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
:-)
You know, everytime I try to use the headlamp I get shadows on my people's faces below their eyes that I think may be their eyelashes but nothing I do fixes it. Yet the rest of you seem to be able to use headlamps just fine!

I was happy to find that I could make a decent HDR-ish backdrop of my own, at about 8000x4000 and liberal use of 'unfocus.'
Originally I tried to make something 50x bigger, but I found that A) it didn't actually look that much better (since it was just resized and blurred), and B) killed my machine.
So, among other things, I'm realizing that 'proper' HDRI lighting is probably beyond the machine I have anyway, so not to worry about it. ;)
WIP. I was happy to get the backdrop mostly how I wanted (I'd love it to be higher resolution, but even if I had the maps I don't think my computer could handle it)
I was wondering myself why one would render with the headlamp on...
One of the first recommendations I came across was to note the existence of the headlamp and to turn it off when ready to make the final render - I went a bit further and started turning it off right away so I wont forget xD
I like that it is there though, I can imagine using it if I want to pretend the camera is held by someone using a hand-held camera with the flash on. Or something like that.
I haven't used it because of that issue I mentioned but I have seen others who have used it to great effect.
How do you all get actual IBL files to work in Studio? Like the ones from here: http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
Aren't those in a .ibl format? Can Studio use those in an environment sphere?
The headlamp is at least useful when you have no light in the scene (just HDR or sun/sky light) and that you are in texture shaded mode in the viewport. It helps not being in the dark when trying to setup a scene. without having to throw in an UE light when working with Iray

As Spooky has pointed out somewhere here, hitting ctrl+L turns off the attempt to simulate scene lighting in the viewport, making it not dark any more.

If you mean using it to see so you can position models and such I use Ctrl-L for that. My favorite new discovery of Daz 4.8
Yeah Ctrl+L best option to see the scene while posing
Some test renders for today ;)
That's incredible, Mec4D!
Thanks to you three. Didn't read the whole thread yet
