Diffeomorphic HD help

December 2022 in Blender Discussion

Been using diffeo for a while now but this is my first time trying to import HD meshes (thanks g9). Im following the documentation on bitbucket and exporting with geometry tool enabled and both with and without geografts, export with and without hd uv, but evey time i just get fingernail textures all over the mesh and nothing else. Im not very good with UVs in blender so ive always trusted diffeo to sort them. Was always ok with materials but now i get seven material zones (all fingernails and one mouth texture) and appending materials and adding them seems to not work.

You have to use the multires version that will use the same materials as the base mesh. The "hd uv" option is for true HD that doesn't work with geografts. Be aware that multires is limited to the HD shape though, to import HD jcms and morphs it is necessary the HD addon by Xin and requires a lot of manual work.

Personally I tend to avoid HD whenever possible, or just use multires for the HD shape when I have to.

    Thanks for the quick response!

Yeah i never used to use HD with 8.1 but now certain chest features dont show without HD on G9. I only ever need the mesh with uv's and the make hair tool. I can then append my own mats and i dont need to pose or animate (although pose can be handy sometimes).

The HD would just the nipple area and maybe a bit of a full character detail morph. would i still need to use the addon by Xin or is there a simpler way, even without gens if thats the sticking point?

The HD doesn't show in the viewport unless you set it in multires, but this is on purpose to speedup the viewport for animation. The HD shows on rendering though. As for the genitalia the default G9 skins come without, so this is a limitation in the G9 package.

You can also try to export my test scene and see if it works for you, she works fine here.

Yes i did see that the multires would bring in the features i was looking for but my issue is still the materials. When i bring in the hd character it has 7 material zones and all but one are set to finger nails. Am i doing something wrong from the start? Should i be using a base character and then applying the hd somewhow in blender?

Can you import correctly my test scene ? Or can you import correctly the G9 female with the standard textures ? If yes then it may be an issue with a specific figure you can try another figure to check it, then upload a test scene in duf format as simple as possible with the steps to reproduce the issue.

I just tried the test file you sent and im getting the same result. Only thing i changed was the view subd from 2 to 3 in daz. saved the scene, chose "export hd to blender" from the scripts, import to blender with "easy import daz" with default settings and again all material zones are fingernails.

I tried easy import and works fine here with my test scene. Be sure to update to the latest version 1.7.0.1312 if you have a old version it could get confused with G9. Also be sure to clean install.

I have a simalar issue if I re-import the g9 figure using the plug-in, even if it looks like I've deleted the entire hierarchy. Assume re-importing creates a material name clash but I haven't had time to troubleshoot it yet or lodge a ticket

    Fresh blender scene, no problems.

I am using 1.7.0.1310, would that be why? Ill try downloading 1312 later and ill do a fresh install again.

Updated from 1310 to 1312 and I'm still getting all fingernail textures on my HD import.

anyone else still having this issue? Is there a workaround? I tried just applying textures once imported but the material zones don't seem right.

@globally No one else is having this issue. If you have a clean install with default settings then my test scene above g9f.duf should work fine, if imported on a empty scene. The checklist below may help to spot the issue.

    1. Did you clean install both the blender and daz scripts ?
    2. Are you using "strange" material options in the global settings ?
    3. Are you importing the figure on a empty scene ?
    4. Do you have some strange addon active other than diffeomorphic ?
    5. Do you use a old or customized version of blender ?

All sorted. I done a complete reinstall of blender and that sorted it. I think it may have been my custom startup file.
