Rearranging list of item parts

Is it possible to rearrange the parts on this list (see screenshot)?
All the parts shown here and many more belongs to the same item and I find it annoying to have to scrool through them all every time I want to select another item in the scene. Would be much easier if you could (or it artists would) put all parts of an item into one main folder which you can expand if you want to select a part of that item.

You'll notice that some items in the list have triangles next to them -- those have sub-items parented to them. You can create your own groups for items by selecting the items you want grouped and choosing Create > New Group from the menu bar.
OK, thanks. But this only affects the Scene tab, not the content of the Parameters drop down box. And if I select a group on the Scene tab, even if the Parameters drop down says "Group 1" or "Group 2" or whatever, it lists all items in all groups anyway. Doesn't seem logical - you'd expect the drop down to show only the content of the selected group?
Oh, I see what you mean -- the drop-down in the Parameters pane is really the equivalent of the Scene pane -- the currently-selected item is what is active in the Parameters pane, but if you use the drop-down the assumption is that you want to change which item is selected, so everything is offered. Perhaps an option to collapse the drop-down, or to have it inherit the expanded vs. collapsed status of the Scene pane, would help?
I'm not really sure what the ideal thing would be with the drop down. If you move the Scene pane to the right side as I've done here, the drop down becomes more or less redundant anyway so maybe I'll just stick to that solution.
