Spa Sauna - Free Iray Scene (for 4.8 beta)

The Spa Suana has built in lights for use with physically based render engines such as Luxrender, Octane and of course Iray. I thought I would post a free scene for use with the Spa Sauna, which has everything set to work with Iray. This will allow you to have an out of the box solution for Iray when using the product.

Note: DAZ Studio 4.8 beta is a beta and is subject to change. It is possible that this will not work properly in the future.

Requirements:

DAZ Studio 4.8 Public Beta

Spa Sauna

The duf can be downloaded here:

Spa Sauna Iray Lighting

Below is an Iray render using the above scene file. I hope you enjoy this!

Daz Studio 4.7 was actually released in November 2014.

Thank you so much, Dumor3D. It looks tremendous. It looks like a perfect backdrop for promos. Would you consider making more scenes in the future?

This is a duf file which loads Spa Sauna with everything ready to render in Iray. So it is not an image but the full working room. You can move the camera about or whatever. It is not a static image. The file is like a 'scene' file as it loads your Spa Sauna... As stated, you do need the Spa Sauna product as it does load that product. I only posted the image to show what it will look like.

I know it is a light and render setup and that it can be fiddled with freely. I simply wanted to state all such additions are something I value and always consider before buying. I enjoyed the looks of the sauna before, but now... well, it's on my wishlist, waiting for a flash sale or something ;).

In other words, if you make more presets like that for other products, I will be easier to persuade .

Oh, got it. When you said backdrop, I thought you meant putting the image in as a background image. As for other products, I am quite busy testing my products. I have tried hard to make them all friendly to PBR render engines and most are doing really good in Iray as they are. Yes, you will want to set things like the glass in Wine Me to the Iray glass shader and such. The Amazing Hat product works great as is. Others like Lofn will work better setting the metal parts to an Iray metal shader.

Spa Sauna was designed up front with the light bulbs in it. As this is all included in the product already, what I did could be done with just a simple scene duf file. It is my only environment thus far, so providing an Iray scene file for this made sense as a bonus to my customers.

    Customers appreciate that greatly :).

Looks really nice, Dumor, but I feel a bit guilty downloading this since I haven't bought anything from your bit of the store yet! I don't want to look like a leech!

Well, it will only work with the Spa Sauna, so don't feel like a leech. You have it. If one day you have the Spa Sauna, you are set to go!

Iray can use meshes as lights. I had those meshes in the product already. This will make those meshes lights, but won't create the meshes. That is why it requires the Spa Sauna product.

How do I change to GPU mode? The CPU is always 100%.

If you have a Nvidia card, under Render Settings tab, go to advanced tab and it will show your available choices. I think I tested this on a 2GB card but I know it works on 4GB cards.

CPU at 100% is common when rendering when using CPU. All 3DL renders run the CPU at 100% or very nearly that.

Well, I have the Spa Sauna but not using Iray anytime soon. But thanks- I downloaded it to keep handy. Very thoughtful of you! :)

Thanks very much, Dumor. Purchased the Spa Sauna some weeks ago and look forward to try out the Scene. Maybe it'll speed up rendering time on my MacBook Pro a little (3Delight-Renders took pretty long with Spa Sauna), but I fear the MBPs GT 750M with its 2GB does not have the necessary horsepower. At least it's nothing compared to the rigs with multiple Nvidia cards most of you guys are using. Still have my mouth open from SickleYields YouTube movie on Iray showing some 4 graphic cards just for rendering purposes.

Anyhow, hopefully other PAs will add free Iray scenes, lights or shaders to their products too. Spent so much in the store recently. I really could use a break whilst playing with the new render engine.

(Edit) Seems my good old (well 2013) MacBook Pro is everything but a render beast. 43 minutes with the iray Spa Sauna Scene and the meter still says 0% with only 203 iterations done. Don't think this will be under 2 hours. Might really have to think about a decent desktop someday.

    You are welcome folks!

Marty... My utility shows that the scene uses around 1.2 to 1.3GB of VRAM. Add to that what your system uses to run itself... maybe a half gig or so, depending on what all you are running and this should put you under the edge of what your 2GB card can hold. It is pretty darned close though, so you may want to have only DAZ studio running and nothing else. In the Winders world, the web browser and email use OpenGL and therefore some VRAM. Anyway, it is on the edge and might cause a crash, so try at your own risk. :) My scenes are finishing on the default 5000 iterations, including the one first posted. I suspect it is the shadows under the benches and under the floors doing this. If you haven't seen it, the slider is based on convergence and is not at all linear to time. From what I'm seeing, a flat white plane will under most circumstances converge very quickly, while dark shadow areas or some reflections can take much longer. Yup, I'm learning as fast as I can, too!

Well, if that is a proper report and if the info I find is correct, it looks like you have 2GBs of VRAM which would make that a kepler series card with 384 CUDA cores. It might work. Worst that can happen is locking up your machine. Save everything and close as much as you can. If it does hold the scene, you should see a speed increase.

15 minuts render (Just GPU) 1 IBL "No extra lights". :) Not bad, but I need to configure the settings of the skin and eyes to the IRay, the default optimization for G2F and Male is not enough. Especially in the eyes. It was very good, no longer have to wait hours in LUX for a little realism. :)

Farol, you would be better asking that over in one of the other Iray threads. The general discussion or tips and tricks. They are not 100% but it does catch the important ones. I don't have a complete list of what does and what doesn't.

In case you missed it, there is an Iray shader set for G2 under materials, (sorry, I forgot the exact path) that was in the Iray content bundle. There were also updates to the G2 figures in the essentials bundles.

Thanks Dumor! I'll take a look there...
I used shaders and custom configuration by DAZ for G2F in the image above. Now I customized a little to my taste.
