There are some characters in the daz shop that are based on G8 so fit nice with rig and clothes etc, so if anyone knows of a designer that creates unique characters based on G8 for a fee, please do let me know

You can easily do a G8 full body morph with blender or hexagon or any other modeler, if this is what you mean. The G8 figure can import obj morphs via the morph loader. So there's no need to import a whole rigged figure from blender, apart that it is not possible anyway.

Or if you do, have to re-rig everything manually (?)

If one was serious enough, one could study the structure of duf files for the Genesis X figures, create a conversion table in a spreadsheet and produce a DS compatible duf out of that spreadsheet.

It still wouldn't be an actual G8 figure. The characters in the Daz store that say they require G8 means they were created by morphing G8; not a whole new mesh.

Great info, are there any approved designers that could create a specific morph for a character based on a design that could then be used similar to the store characters for G8 ?

You don't have to be approved (as in being a PA) to do the work. There may be forum members who could do it. Any negotiations should be handled by PM. PAs could as well, though I don't know if any do commission work.
