Ron, good that you're feeling a bit better  Same here today (can actually keep some food in me so I wonder if it wasn't one of those "24 hr" bugs, no vaccines against those).

Hope you can get that MD's statement to avoid the communal lunches/dinners.

Just wishing you well. And hope you are on the mend and don't suffer any lasting effects.

My COVID experience brings several health issues to the forefront. My Dad is 94. Any serious illness could be deadly for him. My brother refuses to get COVID immunizations, but lied to my Dad about it. My Dad has had all his COVID shots, but might easily catch the virus from my brother, etc.

The drug companies are doing a good job of evaluating the new variations of COVID, and coming up with new versions of vaccines etc. I firmly believe my first two COVID shots kept me from ending up in the hospital. If I had sought out the booster shot, I might not have gotten sick at all.

Hope you are feeling a little better by now. I keep my fingers crossed that you get over it soon.

What your brother is doing is not fair... What he does with his own health is his business, but he must not endanger your father. In Germany and many other countries, he wouldn't be able to get that close to him at all (assuming your father lives in a retirement home).

In any case, the booster vaccination is a fine thing. By the way, you can get it even after you have fallen ill; it will then provide 'double' protection.

...same here. If you can try to get the booster anyway.

Again what I had was likely one of those little short term "flu bugs" which had nothing to do with the jab. Feeling much better today.  Shoulder didn't even ache, well any more than it usually does, this time (it did after the last two).

I'm glad that you're feeling better, Ron.  It's a shame your brother has lied to your dad.  I hope he stays well.  I have a family member that did the same to another (elderly) family member.  It's definitely frustrating.

Thanks for your support, everyone. I had my first two COVID shots, but didn't get the booster shot.

I moved to the new apartment building on December 3. They require all residents to eat lunch together. We add that payment to the rent payment. I almost certainly got COVID from eating lunch with my neighbors. I've decided to get a note from my doctor so I won't need to eat lunch with everyone.

I'm still exhausted from my move. I planned to wait till spring before I got a new doctor. I had moved to a new city.

Right now, the most significant symptoms are a feverish feeling (temperature is normal!), and upper respiratory congestion, coughing, etc. I am exhausted but can't sleep. I do pass out sometimes, and am out for a short period. Oh, yeah a couple times I coughed so hard I almost passed out.

It's incredibly irresponsible to mandate public lunches during a bloody, deadly pandemic! Particularly with seniors!

What aggressively stupid and ignorant management you have to deal with, here's to beating that rotten virus!

My Dad lives with his wife in a condo. My brother lives in a nursing home. I live in a Senior Community. Dad visits my brother and me, individually, every few months. Dad usually doesn't stay long... He gives us a pizza and some beer. A few months ago I talked to my Dad and step sister. I made it very clear that my brother refuses to have his COVID shots. I think Dad has visited each of us twice since I told them about my brother's lies. Maybe Dad just gives him to goodies and leaves.

I live in an Assisted Living community. There is a medical staff available for an extra fee. I believe that's one reason I was able to get a rapid COVID test so quickly. I really appreciate having such a quick diagnosis.

That's good that you received a quick diagnosis, I hope you beat that bastard virus, it's too bad your brother is so selfish though... be glad, however, that you have family, there are a few of us that cannot say the same!

Ron, if you continue to have problems with coughing when you try to sleep, try mounding your pillows up, so you sleep in a reclined position if you can. I have asthma and sometimes it hits me at bedtime or kicks in after two hours of sleep. I adjust my pillows, grab my iPad, read something non-creative (ie, not going to stimulate my creative part of the brain) and get myself back to drowsy and try to sleep. It sometimes works, sometimes not.

Super glad you are improving. Be kind to yourself and take it easy.

Regarding Vit D, my doctors have had me on it since I was in my 40s. If you are a woman, you have to worry about bone density. But if you are on prescriptions, taking vitamins might mess them up, so make sure you check with your doctor or pharmacist before randomly grabbing stuff off the grocery store aisles. There is a lot of junk out there being hyped without clinical trial data to support them.

    Mary

I'm feeling a bit better today. I had drifted off into deep sleep a few times. I may leave my apartment tomorrow, and see if I have the strength and breathing ability to functon properly. My congestion has been reduced. I sang a few silly songs... My voice is back to normal... Thanks again everyone for your support.
