Better for DAZ: Hexagon or Blender?

SaintOfTheDragonsSaintOfTheDragons Posts: 50
December 2021 in Blender Discussion

I want to jump into making assets and a useful question is which software is better for content creation for DAZ Studio? My initial impression is that Hexagon would be more geared toward creating for DAZ in particular, but Blender is definitely more powerful and versatile software. Thoughts?

They did state officially that the last 4X version will remain available after the release of 5.0

As long as I can use my current version 4.12.086, to export to Blender via Diffeo
,not much concerned about version 5 disrupting things.

Do you recommend Diffeomorphic over the stock Daz to Blender Bridge?

    Absolutely.

Neither is better for Daz, or Studio.

They both provide models, with user input of course. I vastly prefer Blender; I render it in it, model, texture and create morphs for Studio in it.

... Others prefer Hexagon. They are both tools - find one you like, and use many tools as appropriate.

I can't imagine using Hexagon unless you already know Hexagon. The last stable release was 3 years ago. Blender is the much more capable software with a bigger development team and funding. If you're going to take the time to learn a new software for modeling, it probably would be more beneficial to learn Blender as that will always be useful no matter the 3D application.

I do not understood the "choose the tool you like" argument because you'll end up being most comfortable/proficient in whatever software you keep using. At the end of the day, I'd much rather be a Blender expert than a Hexagon expert because Blender is taking over the world, gaining functionality at a dizzying and accelerating rate, has a thriving ecosystem of plugins by extremely talented artists that do amazing things, and no one laughs anymore when it is suggested that Blender will become the industry standard modeling software. None of that can be said of Hexagon. It's just not possible to put them in the same class.

    Agreed.

... However, always remember it is a tool, and others may come along one prefers.

I use Studio and Blender; some things I choose to do in Studio as they are quicker to do (for me) in Studio - at least some of the time.

I have noticed, however, that my experience in Studio has actually helped me resolve some Blender issues I had.

Personally, I think Hexagon is a terrible piece of software, but I've seen great things done with it.

    Fair enough.

I only used Hexagon for a little bit several years ago before I had even runBlender for the first time. I just needed to add a material zone, and it got the job done. I don't remember there being any particular advantage at all.

Yes, I've seen people do pretty cool things with it too. But I think that, much like trying to animate in Daz Studio, these results are probably more a testament to the artists' skill and persistence than the software.

I just find it hard to even imagine Hexagon vs Blender even being a legitimate question when a month later, I had already forgotten I had ever used Hexagon at all. But your point is made.
