So... why doesn't the new partner acknowledge Daz3D?

I apologize up front: I am quite the cynic. Though I am grateful for the discounts, managed to pick up "Echo's of Andromeda" which I consider a really nice prop (yah, I lived & saw the original Clash of the Titans movie from 1986 in cinema (was 16 at that time)), and the scene(s) had their effect on me so to speak (this isn't a one on one copy, but IMO the set really managed to get the jist of the scene, and I don't care if it's dated or not...).
Anyway...
So I read that Daz3D has now partnered up with 3D.sk, a site I never heard off before yet Daz3D keeps touting that this is all about professionalism. Because (I quote): "to give you a special deal on professional tools!". I guess all material on the Daz store is professional now?
Anyway, I didn't go over the blog but did look at the website itself and, each to their own, it wasn't clicking with me. Not at all actually.
However... having become a somewhat enthusiastic ZBrush user over time (it took well over half a year (give or take) but right now ZBrush - to me - is the #1 support tool for Daz Studio.. I could write essays why but.. I'd better not ;)). Reason why this is relevant: why does 3D.sk share ("advertise"?) several (awesome!) ZBrush live demo's yet... doesn't share one single word about any partnership with Daz3D? Seriously, nothing?
See, last time I read a big story about a partnership between companies (?) was when Native Instruments (audio company) joined forces with iZotope (specialized "audio processing" company) and both companies mentioned the partnership on both websites. But here?
Maybe I am turning into the grumpy granddad without knowing (we don't have kids though) but... this looks weird to me.
Once again: I am honestly grateful for the discounts. Next to 'Andromeda' (that name will always hit a soft spot with me) I also grabbed the Cyber Studio (for all the obvious reasons I hope) as well as the FG Fightclub (I have big storyline plans for that one; it fits really well with the Cyberpunk outfit for GF8.1 (purchased this quite some time before!); the product page does not do that outfit justice in my maybe biased & entitled opinion).
One sided partnership? <confused look>

I grew up watching that movie, and was shocked when I found out how recently it was made. When I was young, I assumed it was from the 50s or some such.
You noticed the (rather poor) remake.
The remake was garbage that actually made me angry while I was watching it.
...hmm, when I click the either the "Shop Now" button or the "Select Daz Originals" link, the only products that appeared were PC items. ...hmm, when I click the either the "Shop Now" button or the "Select Daz Originals" link, the only products that appeared were PC items.
As to the 3D.sk products, I tend to "dial spin" my characters using resources available here along with Skin Builder and the Beautiful Skins product for skins, so not much there is of use.
I get the same thing.
Crypto aside, the principal people who would use 3d.sk resouces are character creators, I believe. You would use those resources to make either character textures directly, or to create merchant resources, for example. If you don't know how to make characters or their textures, there may not be much there to use.
Pretty much what I got out of it - never bothered to look at pricing as a result, as this is something I have virtually no interest in.
I used to have a 3d.sk subscription back when I was a PA. They are legit, and very useful for character creators who don't want to be the millionth person to use the same old merchant resources. Peter also sells his photos under his name, Levius, at Renderosity. (At least he used to. I'm just assuming he's still there.)
Yeah, I was kinda wondering what the hell was going on too... I feel like any day now DAZ is going to have a banner announcing that they sell novelty pillows or they joined up with a pizza delivery service...
"JOIN OUR CELEBRATION"... "At last! DAZ3D has hooked up with LOLkraP a leading provider of unexpected things in plastic bags and cardboard boxes for over 6 months. LOLkraP has joined the DAZ3D family or maybe it's the other way around, who can really be sure?... Does it really matter?... Just use the coupon code SQUIDJERKY and get 10% off any dried cuttlefish products or buy any 4 unmarked mystery boxes and use the coupon code MOISTSPONGE to receive 30% off of 4 additional boxes. Hurry before the offer expires or we stop smoking whatever it is we apparently have become very, very fond of!"
You know that's going to be a banner any day now...
Technically, DAZ started out as a 3D medical model broker or something like that... so if they end up selling singing rubber trout, I suppose its not that weird.
...well they tried avatars, NFTs, and more recently, entrprise marketing so I guess as long as the rubber trout is fully poseable it would be OK.
Last night I had a look at their site and tried to find the "Professional Tools" they were talking about... Didn't find any, and the overall appearance of the site in general resembled the ones that promote making millions without doing anything and where 20 something women that are living within half a mile from your home (in the middle of nowhere) are desperately seeking your attention...
Maybe the rubber trout is vibrating...
Unless you're a vendor or artist creating skin textures or texturing clothing 3d.sk won't be of any interest.
What does it matter if Daz partners up with different companies if its beneficial to both? They're expanding the company and as far as I see its working :)
Enterprise marketing - several film studios are already making use of it, including this one

Honestly, why would they WANT to advertise an affiliation with DAZ? It's not like anyone outside of actual DAZ users pays much attention to what goes on here, after all. DAZ is a very, very tiny company in the overall scheme of the 3D graphics market, and doesn't even bother going to the industry trade shows anymore.
@Cybersox: ... agreed.
I use photos from 3d,sk every single time I make a character.
I use them as references to make the skin.
you take the pictures and piece them together on the genesis 8 UV.
It's like a big puzzle made out of SKIN!!!
So, that's how all your characters come about!!!!
No opinion one way or the other, just an observation.
A lot of the products I browsed over there were downright terrifying. Scans of humans where the hair, eyelashes, and some of the clothes had human flesh texture. Reminded me of things out of Clive Barker's nightmares.
No disrepect meant to the creators as I imagine those were raw products or meant for uses that I am not familar with.
Actually, they came to us asking on behalf of their users how to integrate the two more closely.. so there is an active Daz userbase over at 3D.sk.
As for not 'bothering' to go to tradeshows.. a lot of companies dont attend these days (talking pre-covid of course) for a lot of reasons. But cost is a big part.. and it's reasonable to assume the decision was taken to invest in other areas.
I wanna say 3 to 5 years ago I bought some 2D assets there for creating custom textures, but didn't really find it all that useful. I found texturing.xyz shortly thereafter which was more in line with what I was looking for in order to make custom textures and bmp/normal maps since theirs was tileable and easier to implement for 3d painting. Also, way too much spam e-mail from 3d.sk.
Which reminds me, whatever happened to the partnership with texturing.xyz?
I lived through all of the '50s. If it had been made in the '50s it would have been painted onto successive rocks
and shown at a "drive-by".
Uh-oh, you've just given away the secret of next year's April Fools product release -- Rubber Trout 8.1
They have a lot of pose references as well, which can be used by most anyone :)
I only heard of 3D.sk because there was a DAZ Blog entry several weeks back saying that the in-house DAZ3D artists were utilizing resources from another resource company to create some of the Base characters. And then, looked up the other company and saw this company (3D.sk) doing the same thing.
As far as I'm concerned, this partnership is only for DAZ users who are character creators and make their characters with other apps to use in DAZ Studio or in conjunction with DAZ assets. I didn't think to check for the NFT nonsense, but I don't think that was the main goal. Also strange that I didn't see 3D.sk mention DAZ or that artists who work with DS make characters with their resources.
Yes that is exactly what is for. A large percentage of character creators have memberships there. We use to in fact when we were doing characters on a continuous basis.
3d.sk textures can be found on rendo but I believe some of them are lower resolution than from the 3d.sk site. you can use rendo coupons on it most of the time or get sales though so that's great.
Another option for 3d.sk is renderhub, which i try to avoid, but they do sell full image sets from 3d.sk.
Lastly, the 3d.sk site which requires membership in order to use points/credits, and you loose access to points/credits bought if your membership lapses. so its good to know there are multiple options.
I also use 3d.sk textures tho many were bought before 3d.sk changed their membership plan. I wish they had a greater number of organics/non organics/animals etc but I think that's more of substance lines.
Daz/Tafi is in a great number of shops now or in collaboration with them... besides maketafi and daz3d, there's flipped normals, artstation, the nft market, 3d.sk... starting to see it everywhere. :)half the time its tafi, or daz, or daz tafi together.
@OP
As I can't recall any products in any field called 'amateur', the Pro monika must be something along the lines of an advertising tag dreamt up by the oh-so-trustworthy guys in the 'marketing department'.
Thank you all for the clarifications.
...sounds a bit tedious and like you need both a good eye and steady hand (which I no longer have),
As mentioned I just use Zev0's Skin Builder.
