Why did my DE Binah Item, Order Number, everything disappear last week?
in The Commons
This morning, I just realized, the Binah character (which was claimed as a freebie a few weeks ago), has been removed from my account. I remember using it till last week. I dont understand. Why was it yanked out of my account?
Was it some sort of timed freebie?

I don't remember her being free at any point.
Daz sends out individual offers of freebies that you have to log in for. Sometimes these freebies disappear and sometimes they do not. I have yet to figure out why people get the offer or why some items vanish. I would put in a ticket. It's ridiculous to offer someone a freebie and let them download it and then take it away for no discernable reason.
Is it showing on the Product Page as owned? https://www.daz3d.com/de-binah-for-genesis-8-female
If no, then yes they've really pulled it. As I recall it was one of those conditional offers wherein one was expected to download and use the item or else yes, they would pull it. However you say that you were using it so certainly, if it's gone awol, send in a ticket.
The only occasions that I have heard of DAZ removing an item from ones account, have been ones that were not meant to be free and the error was big enough to withdraw the order, although the 1 million dollar freebie from year ago has not been withdrawn.
PerttiA what is being referred to are of offers made for new accounts.
Folks,

Here is the message I recieved it almost immediatly after signing up for the PC+ member. I assumed thats why I got it, as a wecome freebie to the membership. That message is still in my account (although the item and the order number have vanished).
It is a freebie, so, I cannot complain if it's gone. But, other than that message, I have no other way of proving that I owned it :( I did not do any renders with her, as I was still learning Daz with the default models.
So, not sure, if I should even bother raising a ticket. Perhaps the freebie was sent out as an error. This morning I noticed that Daz sent out a error filled newsletter as well.
Please put in a ticket because it's a ridiculous practice of theirs. It's absolutely absurd to put something in someone's library and then remove it without telling them why. If no one complains, they will just keep doing it. Besides, the freebie requires logging in, but maybe you were already logged in and that failed to trigger something. So maybe it was just a glitch and they will return the product. Be polite, of course, but let them know that you are confused as to what is going on or why they would offer you something and then take it away with no explanation. You are not the first one to get a freebie offer like this or the first one to have it disappear. Daz does make lots of errors, but this particular freebie strategy is something they have been doing for a while now.
@certaintree38
I see. Then, I will go ahead and submit a ticket. If I get her back, that's good :) I will keep you folks updated.
Did you receive the email from DAZ confirming the purchase? If you still have it, that should provide the order number.
That's what makes me feel odd about this whole situation. There was no email sent out for it. I have kept all of my Daz emails including the freebie ones. I spent the entire morning checking each and every email (and checking each and every order number on the account itself)
It's like she does not exist. not in my account. not in my order numbers. not in my email. I had almost fogotten about her till this morning because I rarely used her. With all due respect to Daz, most of the free items, I am afraid, are not good. I claim them but rarely use them. I only noticed Binah missing because, she would show up in the character section or the body presets and that name was gone. This week, I also realized I dont have any African American characters or Middle Eastern characters in my library or in my renders. I was browing the store to purchase them. The, it just hit me, I already have Binah.
Then, I realized, she's gone!
But ultimately, I have no way of proving that I ever owned that item except my own memory and that message I recieved a few weeks ago. I will search my emails again, but it's a bizarre situation to be in. If the support ticket comes back and says that I cannot prove ownership, I suppose that is end of it.
Hold on... So, you had her installed ?
DAZ cannot remove anything from DS/one's computer that one has downloaded and/or installed.
How did you install it? I use Daz Install Manager, and I don't think it's even physically possible for that to tamper with my file hierarchy when it's not running. When the files are downloaded, they're put into your runtime and they stay there. I have never heard of Daz having the ability to remotely delete files on your hard drive without your consent.
@PerttiA @margrave
I did install and see her in action. However, I recently upgraded from a old GTX 1060 computer to a brand new RTX 3060 computer. I am on a new computer now. Now that I think about it, I never saw her on my new computer. I have been using both computers simultaneously until I decided to do Daz only on the new computer. At which point, I wiped the old computer of all Daz installation and other 3D software and games.
The more I thnk about it, the more I realized, I never saw her on Daz Central, or the Library or anywhere online in my accounts after the first few days of getting it. I think the freebie was given by accident, they took it off the library. But, I already installed it so it was available on my (now old) computer. Then, I moved to a new computer and she was already yanked from my account, so I never installed it.
God, it's almost like i am solving a missing asset case, he he :P
Because they don't have it.
Source: I received said offer after joining and recall Binah among the items.
I believe the attached email is the one describing the offer, but I'm not 100% sure.
The title of the email is "Get them before they disappear".
@doubledeviant
Ah! yes, something like that happened to me. I was beginning to think I imagined the whole thing. Well, let's see what support says. Perhaps, I will get it back. Perhaps I wont :) Thank you.
Looking at that, it seems to mean you get 1 free item per day for four days, ie 4 free items in total, not a free item that only last for four days. The 48 hours is the period you can buy them, not the time you own them.
I personally have never heard about anyone getting temporary ownership of a product, that only happens when you gain it, and then return it. The only exceptions to this are very rare cases when DAZ would take items back after a massive glitch (and I only know of one incidence of this)
My interpretation of that statement (each free item only being available for 48 hours) would be that it's free for 48 hours and if you don't download it in 48 hours, you lose the opportunity to download it for free... smart because you kinda get the person to visit the store four times and hopefully see something else they like...
But if that actually means that you only get to use the item for 48 hours and then it is deleted somehow, that's as creepy as hell and a real deal breaker if it's not designed to self-delete, and even that's pretty friggin' creepy.
Being removed from your library after 48 hours is less disturbing, because that's the same honor system as the return policy and nothing has changed.
But, that's still kind of misleading because either way there is no mention of it becoming permanently unavailable after 48 hours... You really have to say it's a limited use item or trial use item not "free".
Free items are free, trial items can be limited use and come with limitations that must be expressed somewhere in writing... otherwise that's pretty misleading and kind of shady.
I've never heard of Daz deliberately revoking items that were purchased - At least, I don't think it happened to me.
I have Binah installed and one thing I did notice is that the character folder is not called Binah it is called Dark Elf . If you have her installed check the People-Genesis 8 Female-Characters folder for one called Dark Elf and see if the files are still there. Even if the 'Smart Content' link is gone the actual files should still be there if you installed her, as others have mentioned.
Last year i also got my free items in that kind of offer, but they stayed in my library even to this date as purchased.
It's possible that vijayasimhabr and I both experienced a bug, but the lack of an actual order for these items makes me think otherwise. Perhaps the answer to his support request will provide some clarity on the matter.
By his letter there, he had 2 days 'to claim' it, i.e. download it. When I was sent it that's what I did and to this day it sits in my account.
My 2 cents worth of theology is that this is to start one thinking/acting fast to grab stuff while the offer is good. Leads up to flash sales of undetermined time lenghs in which one might or might not be able to purchase stuff "quickly" before the sale is over. So to remember "there is always another sale" and carry on.
None of their freebies were temporary. Some just showed up in the Product Library - some were to "buy" and use "coupons" - all training methods yah.
I know of one "glitch" wherein even I managed to get a free item. That was pulled BUT letters were sent out explaining what had happened. And no, never have they ever entered our computers to uninstall things. WAAAAAAAY back when there was one program installer that managed to wipe out the contents BUT thankfully that was before my time.
There are items in your library that were added manually and don't have an order number (they say manually added next to where an order number should be). I would guess these items were added the same way. I have heard people talk about this same offer before. Some people still have the item months later, some do not. The disappearing does not seem to be tied to dowloading- people who logged in and downloaded still sometimes lose the item later. The item changes but the offer is pretty much "log in for the next few days and get free items." Whatever is happening, we could do with some clarification on how the process is supposed to work from Daz itself, and why some products end up disappearing.
Folks,
Some updates.
1. I now noticed that another item 'Dolly for Genisis 8' is also gone from my account. The situation is identical to the Binah situation. No order number. No entry in account. She was there in the old computer, and on the new computer, she is gone.
2. Support has gotten back to me. They have asked me to send the screenshot of the message that promised me these two freebies. I have sent them. Hopefully, this is sufficient proof for them to restore the items to my account.
I am reading each and every post, and I am new to Daz, this store, the way things operate. I feel that this was a bug that has somehow affected me (and one other user - doubledeviant). Hopefully, I will get them back. All said and done, these are freebies, so, I suppose, if they are never restored, I should be okay. As another person mentioned, it's not the end of the world, he he :)
I will update the thread once support responds to my screenshot.
As @Haruchai observed, DE Binah installs into a folder called Dark Elf (as do her sisters DE Alice and DE Onya). Binah still shows up in Install Manager for me, but the email says I paid the princely sum of $2.59 for her, rather than getting her as a freebie, so perhaps the situation isn't exactly the same.
Yes, similar offer for a new account 4 items with a time limit to "login/download". One of the items i got was Dolly and is still in my library. Another one was Lauren Hair and not only is still there, i even tested a couple months ago and when the promo is active it gives me an extra discount on the Penny Pro bundle because i own the hair.
Maybe the difference in the promo was an internal message (with banner) in the site. I think i may even have missed one of the 4 because after i made the account did not got back for a couple of days.
Also to note, there was no actual "order". What i did once i login/saw the message was to enter DIM and install the product. Now in the library, Order says: "Manually Added" and browing the actual product says "purchased" instead "add to cart".
Folks,
Update. Customer support has added the items back to my account. It's all good and sovled.
