More and more Governments and state officials are looking to limit the crypto craze. There has been an state official in The Netherlands saying bitcoin should be banned, I know Turkey is lookling to limit the influence of crypto's and Thailand had banned the trade of NFTs all together.
One more interesting article about the drop of power consumption for crypto mining after China's recent crack-down.
Yeah, it also brings a new perspective to the statement that NFTs and ETH were not responsible for the high GPU prices.
Does Daz still thinks they were doing us a favor by pushing NFTs?

In case anyone is of the "Too Long Can't Read" proclivity, the short version is a crypto private equity firm bought a defunct former coal fired power plant (which was converted to fairly inefficient/polluting type of natural gas power) in upstate New York to use for exclusively mining cryptocurrency... now the plant is dumping hot water into lake Seneca, a deep glacial lake... the dumped water is heating up the surface of the lake and causing algae blooms... but that's just running at 13% capacity... the private equity firm wants to increase output to maximum capacity... because why not, apparently the lake is still alive and let's kill it entirely.

Yeah, and I doubt DAZ employees that matter come here to read what we have to say or *gasp* discuss the issue. We are mere forumites, and the lack of conversation is proof.
Luckily I have been able to convince a few people on a Discord not to buy here until NFTs are dropped. That's another couple hundred bucks they won't see spent here.
There are reasons for governments to want to ban NFTs... so NFTs carry regulatory risk with the moral hazard associated with trading anonymous financial instruments. NFTs are a great vehicle for money laundering, and money laundering is a key part of financing a criminal and/or terrorist empire.
Nevermind the moral hazard of anatomical elements... just think about what NFTs enable out in the wilds.

Interesting article. The pattern of data suggests NFTs offer nothing good to artists, and certainly nothing good to 3D artists.

Yeah, that has definitely happened. Probably can count the number of artists on one hand.
The piece is not unique; The TOKEN is. The link you buy is the token, hence that link is unique in that ledger. Ofcourse NFTS can represent anything, because it ISN'T ART. "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" , but without the actual art. It's like waving a contract and it says you bought a Rembrandt.

I agree, @Paintbox . To me, the pattern of data is the sum total of all the articles and informed posts that have been shared, including your latest link and posts. The evidence speaking against NFT for both artists and Daz customers is overwhelming. Yet, as you rightly say, here we are. It's maddening.
I find statements like the one you quoted fun to read... not fun in the "ha-ha" sense of fun.. more like that hazy B&W film of a sad clown sitting on a dead mule, playing a violin as a column of lava flows towards him, kind of "fun"...
It's all how you look at things...

Or not, or maybe... nothing in life is guaranteed... maybe you'll make money, maybe not, for who can say in these situations what life will present us with... maybe you'll just get your art into the digital world and maybe you'll make money at it... maybe it being in NFT format will be the reason it makes money... maybe not... the point is the potential is there and that potential is much higher, if not marginally higher than downloading it to a thumb drive and giving it to a disheveled raccoon in the alley in back of the liquor store and seeing if it earns any money that way... probably. Who knows... it's the potential power of the word "potentially" that potentially makes a potential difference... potentially.

Are we not all buyers of something? Let he who is not a buyer of something or anything cast the first stale scone... do we all not like to buy things and give others money, be it for things of value or oddly misshapen potatoes with no discernible collector's value?
Is it to get something in return or to merely to participate in a growing market?... For surely the participation in a growing market is truely a reward unto itself?
Who here hasn't thrown piles of cash at anyone selling something... be that gold plated collector's coins featuring the individuals from the boy band Menudo, or bulk piles of festive parachute pants worn by members of parliament?
It's not about value, but collecting and above all participating in a market, especially a growing market.
Crypto and NFT might never go away. But what will definitely go away is an evironment in which humans can exist without being under constant threat of death by floods, storms, fire and heat. If we continue to heat up our planet, the heatwave in the American northwest will be just a tiny example of what to expect. And Crypto as well as NFT massively produce Carbondioxid, thus heating the planet.

Megh... breathable air and a planet that's not actively on fire is highly overrated... what's really important is grabbing as much as you can with both fists, and stuffing your pockets and cheek pouches with mad cash for as long as you can and dressing fashionably while you do it... that's all that counts.
Or so it seems...
And don't worry, someone else will always clean up the mess.

I mentioned this over in the Carrara NFT thread, but in case you didn't visit there, this is what I see when I go to the link...
There is no image... just a pulsating grey box... I thought it was some sort of loading thing but it never loads...I don't know if it's a problem with my location or the site, but on three devices (MacBook, iPad and a windows desktop) that's how it shows up...
But also, this thread isn't exactly the best place to post this information anyway... Most of us here aren't enamored with NFTs... in fact we kinda hate them because they are being marketed as pro-artist while they tend to exploit the hopes and ambitions of the majority of artists while simultaneously being part of an incredibly environmentally unfriendly system.
I'm sure you meant well and I wish you luck, but yeah... I'm kinda not sure how to feel here.
On the plus side, I just painted an exhaust manifold almost that exact shade of grey, so it is very nice...
It works correctly with Firefox 90.0.2 on Win (*#!&) 10. That it does not work with every browser suggests that the site is not very professional.
I'm not a hyper-greeny, nevertheless, I'm not very enthusiastic about these "fungus" things.
I tested it in Firefox on my iPad and it shows up... but not in a Chrome or Safari... I don't get websites that sell stuff and don't work with those or mobile devices... Not very professional... but then again Home Depot and Lowe's (2 big DIY companies in the US) flakes out with Safari iOS too... But that's not saying a lot either because their site design is crappy anyway.

Please remember to keep the discussion civil.
It's good if people who aren't critical of NFTs post here, and if they feel comfortable doing it. Daz should be able to get a solid impression of what the interest level is actually like, which makes it harder to dismiss the overall negative sentiment.
Today is Earth Overshoot Day. YTD we have consumed as much as the earth is able to generate in one year. I thought it would be worth mentioning.
Well, technically that only works if you don't ignore the overall negative sentiment in favor of the few positive sentiments...
How does that saying go...?... "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words will never hurt me because I don't listen to words other than the words in my head that tell me to do stuff... bad stuff... with fire or sharp things ... would you like to see my collection of pigeon and squirrel heads I keep in this suitcase."
Thats probably not the one...
But I'm sure there is a saying about that out there somewhere.
Daz would have to do a survey to get an accurate opinion because forum members make up less than 10% of the Daz customer base, so not real accurate comparison.
It gets earlier and earlier. The mistake is thinking we can science our way out of the problem when the only actual solution is to consume less.
