Good question. Since I am not a hairstylist (believe me), I was hoping that samples will come from users who do know how to design hair. We did this with DressShop 1.0 and we got an amazing array of entires. To that end I will announce a HairShop Competition to see who is doing what with HairShop.
Once again, thanks for the excellent suggestion!
Laslo
Would anyone care to comment on whether he/she would be interested to participate in a HairShop Design Contest?
Love to have some feedback...
You may be facing a chicken and egg situation. How many people will buy hairshop before they see what it can do?
You might want to consider building a time-limited free version for the contest.
wiz, another good suggestion! But...
1. Fortunately there have been a great number of people who purchased HairShop in just the one week since it was published. In another 3 weeks we have even more who now have spent some time with the software and are ready to produce a design for submission.
2. While we don't have a free version, the software is on sale for real cheap ($27.97) and also can be returned for full refund if not satisfactory. This actually beats having a free version that bombs after a while.
That said, I will wait a little more before launching the competition and will offer nice prizes, too:-)

Ps.: we are really proud of HairShop (and DressShop, too) as we took great pains to make it max. user-friendly.
I wonder if there are already examples of hair designed with HairShop? Anyone?
I'd love to have users post here a few...Please!
Here's the very first hair model I made with HairShop: Orszebet for G2F.
I'm painfully aware of this effort's shortcomings, but we all have to start somewhere, right? I wanted to make a layered wedge cut, longer in the front than in the back, with some bangs and a buzzed nape. I'd say I got about 80% of the way there.
Starting with one of the existing hairstyles provided by the program, I used tools within HairShop to cut the distinctive wedge shape and to harvest bangs from another hairstyle so I could add them to this one. Skullcap came from yet a third HairShop model.
I exported all the pieces of the hairstyle as OBJs, then imported them into Daz so that I could work with them on the target figure. I made small changes to scaling and used some D-Formers on the bottom of the wedge to give it a bit more of an irregular and organic shape. While in Daz, I also experimented with texture, using a freebie texture tile from MSTene that I modified, and with transparency maps. I made my own trans map for the main wedge and bangs, but modified a HairShop one for the skullcap.
Laszlo -- I saw in another thread that you used the Wave function to create ripples in hair. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45099/ Can you provide some guidance in how to use that? I thought that was a tool for cutting wavy lines or something...
--MW
Hi MW,
Using the wave (pleat) function is not difficult but it requires trial-and-error.
Here are the steps illustrated:
Pict. 1: Using the "pleat" tool establish a box where you want to pleat. Then using the slider slide it while looking at the model from side and front.
Pict 2: I also used the "Shape" tool to spread out hair a little
Pict 3: Finally, In Studio use the "Smoothing" parameters to smooth out curves.
As I said - trial and error:-)
Just a quick check in on this thread to inquire about the state of Hairshop and Dressshop for Mac OS. It's very nearly October, now, and there has been no update on either of these that I have seen for some months.
Abalone, any update? I really would like to give you my money.
Unfortunately we fell 2 months behind schedule. Given the limited resources, we will finish the current project (HeadShop) before tackling Mac issues. The good news is, when we do, we do Mac versions of all new products.
Again, apologies and please be patient:-)

Thank you for the update. What can we do to get these updates proactively, and without having to ask for them? Could you provide an update blog, or some kind of progress report? A little proactive effort would go a long way toward showing your potential Mac user base that you do want their money. ;)
Folks,
Currently DAZ offers both DressShop and HairShop at 20% off.
DressShop 2.0 is at $39.95 and HairShop is at $31.95.
Brief Descriptions:
Aspiring Designers!
Why spend days on hard-to-learn and use software? DressShop is an easy-to-use product that allows the creation of 3D dress design in minutes. Unlike other applications, DressShop offers three templates that the user can alter, cut, shape and stretch to create a new, unique design. DressShop works like a designer, following the same workflow: Designer makes a sketch or chooses a photo of a dress that he/she may want to create. A dialog also asks to choose one of the three basic type of garments: Dress, Suit or Cape.
The main working area is split into two halves: left side displays the template (your sketch or photo) and the right side the actual 3D mesh that you can rotate around. The workflow has three tabs: Cut, Shape and Accessories. Normally one would start with either Shape or Cut. In Shape you can shape or stretch the OBJ mesh selectively or overall. In the Cut tab a designer cuts and saves various parts of the garment into a library. Clicking on radio buttons this library makes parts visible or invisible. Accessories are just that, buttons, bow or belt can be added to a project. (Windows only)
Hair Design the Easy Way! Use 8 different base style - cut, shape, stretch to create new hairstyles. Use accessories such as sunglasses, hats or bows. Color your hair and render. HairShop exports OBJ and MTL files to work with Poser, DAZ Studio and other 3D applications. Aspiring Designers! Why spend days on hard-to-learn and use software? Files are saved as OBJ and can be rigged and used with other applications such as DAZ Studio or Poser.
Please watch "how-to" videos at YouTube (use DAZ links to videos on the product pages).

Ooops, I forgot that FORUM does not allow email addresses.
So here it goes:

Important note:
When exporting from DAZ Studio to DressShop, please make sure that you use the enclosed settings.
While most OBJ files that have "bones" will be accepted, the scale and UV mapping needs to be also set right.
Thanks,
Laslo
When exporting from Poser to DressShop, use these OBJ settings
(Make sure you uncheck "Ground".
Good Luck!
Here's a little exercise on how to alter a dress you own in DAZ, using DressShop:
1. Export existing dress as OBJ
2. Import into DressShop. Alter
3. Import altered dress back into DAZ Studio
So here it is, nearly Christmas, and there has been no update on the Mac OS version.
Are you still committed to delivering one?
Will that be any time within the next year? Or should I look for another software solution that will fit my needs?
I really want to give you my money. I honestly do. But you are not engendering any sort of confidence within me that you actually want my money. Please help me believe that you do.
o.k... I finally broke down and bought Dress Shop... Daz has it on sale for 70percent off... how could I not?? I'm quite intrigued with the program.. it's pretty simple to use. I've tried Hexagon and it caused me to pull my hair out... lol... I've not seen much about Dress Shop... I can't seem to find a gallery any where or forum. Am I missing something??? I'd love to see what people are doing with the program.... maybe we can post renders here?? Happy New Year!
I will do one if you do :-)
ok I go first
Hi Bigh.. that's lovely... I just got the program yesterday so I don't have anything .. yet... I'm still just dabbling with the tools. I'll try and post something tonight..ish... The program seems pretty straight forward for a beginner like me. I've watched the videos many times... ;) I started a DRESS SHOP GALLERY thread... http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/51257/ I'd love to see what people are doing with the program... :) Hugzzzzzzz
Just bought the HairShop software, because hey, 70% off!
Look forward to playing with it tonight. I figure if nothing else it'll at least provide me with a quick start point to model toon hair in 3DCoat. I've been underwhelmed by what I've seen coming out of DressShop but HairShop definitely looks like it might be a useful tool.
{EDIT} Um... okay. How do I install it? It's asking for my license number? Is that the same as my order number?
{EDIT 2} Nope, not the order number. None of the documentation included with it includes my license number? How do I get this?
Hi Ghastly you normally find the serial number here in your account.. ;)

Steve.
yep.. that's where i found mine .. winks..
Hope you can share some of your creations with dress shop on my thread Ghastlycomic...

I bought HairShop. ^_^

D'oh!!! I'd forgotten all about that page. :red:
I'm finding the interface a little clumsy.
I'm trying to make a vertical cut. I made the cut, but when I go to select the section I cut to delete it with the lasso tool it ends up selecting the entire strand not just the cut part. This is very frustrating.
The undo key is also not working properly.
I accidentally moved part of the bangs somewhere I didn't want them and when I hit undo it repasted part of the hair I had previously deleted.
I bought HairShop. ^_^
ooops... sorry... misread your chat... Have fun!!!
What the hell is the scale this software exports the hair at because when I import the hair object in Daz at 100% it's a wee tiny invisible spec. :shut:
I guess it's not invisible. It's just so small you can't see it. Here it is zoomed in.
Why would you not use Daz scale for the export since Daz Studio is the software that most of the projects made with this software are going to use?
Gastly... I've not watched the videos for the hair shop.. but the dress shop says to use POSER scaling... Is there anything in the videos? manual? there should be a chart with numbers.. :)
