My city is in lockdown.  We aren't having Thanksgiving. No work until at least the end of lockdown. Money is going fast.  Get it while you can.

What city? Complete lockdown? Here in Los Angeles, we now have a 10PM curfew and only essential businesses open but outdoor restaurants and bars are still open. We never had outdoor bars before but we do now. But now they close at 10PM. I guess bars are essential here lol!

My city, nearest cities even give up wearing masks. Masks:Nomask  0010:1000 (approx). I recently travelled more than 10 cities. However this year will be my worst BlackFriday due to this virus mess.

Toronto Canada - 3 weeks (minimum) lockdown starting tomorrow.  Only absolutely necessarily business open - food stores, pharmacies, hospitals (of course), half in my house are American family members who just said "forget about Thanksgiving and Christmas this year - we'll pray instead".  The lineups of panic shoppers are a mile long at the stores today.  AND we are having a snow storm.  Hospitals are at capacity.  No socializing with anyone outside your house.  This is my generation's WWII.

My doctor gave me 6 months of repeats on prescription tranquilizers 3-5 a day.  Liquior stores are closed.

I live in the GTA just outside the city and we're waiting to be locked down next. Ford should have shut everything down earlier, but he waited too long and now he's out of options. We're not alone - BC and Manitoba have it bad now as well.

My doctor told me Thursday that there would be an announcement of a shut-down Friday.  So we did a HUGE mall shop and a HUGE one day delivery from Amazon before everything was sold-out.

That was a good idea - they're predicting as high as 6500 cases per day by Christmas, so I think the whole province will be locked down in a few weeks. It just has a different vibe to it than back in March - now it's easy to feel the cabin fever with the weather getting worse.

I am ordering a TON of firewood tomorrow.  All we need now is an ice storm to knock out the hydro.  My family in Albuquerque lost electricity twice yesterday.

FAR more people are surviving it this go-round.  The hospitals are prepared.  And they have therapeutics.  And there should be a vaccine by the end of the year.

Definitely - I think if people can stay isolated for the next 2-3 weeks than I think we'll be in a good spot again. Nice to know some fellow GTAers on this forum :)

I'd be a lot happier if people weren't hoarding toilet paper again. Grrrrrrr....

Even so, I'm having family over for Thanksgiving. I had my 36 year old son die in August (not COVID). I'm not going to go without seeing the one child I have left, no matter what some bloody idiot somewhere says. However, I am thinking of taking up drinking as a hobby...

Nothing much changes for me. Stay at home, work from home. Go out one day a week for groceries. Exercise by walking and hiking.  Wear mask when out, already got thanksgiving supplies, just no company this year. Curfew doesn't impact me. I get up early to start the morning shift.

I'm an introvert so not really suffering much from the suspended sentence of not going out.

we don't really do big stuff for the holidays anyway. Much more laid back and manageable when we keep it small.

Same here. My husband and I are homebodies, and we've both worked from home for over 10 years now, so our lives haven't changed all that much. I do grocery shopping once a week. My parents live upstairs and they're part of our "COVID Circle" so we get to have our normal Thanksgiving that is just the four of us. I did my Thanksgiving shopping yesterday and was able to get everything I needed no problem. Even bought a 22.5lb turkey to break in our brand new oven...a lot for 4 people but soupsoupsoupsoupyum!

My only fear is my parents...they're both still working...my mom works at a vet clinic and my dad works on a tobacco farm that his son in law owns (he basically just supervises). But if we get sick, it will likely come from one of my parents, no matter how careful they are.

Oh EXCUSE ME!  The government (of Ontario Canada) has decided that government owned liquor stores are an absolute necessity and will be open regular hours - even though everyone's doctors office is closed.

Well I work in essential services, so business as usual for me (masks daily) if we get another lockdown. my GF lost her job on the last lockdown and just got a temp gig a few months back, so we'll see how this effects her if we get another one. I keep telling her to start an Onlyfans account and we can both quit our jobs, LOL

    Everyone stay safe!

It is a big deal in medicine.  The fear is that if you shut down all access to alcohol (liquor stores and bars), alcoholics will start to go into withdrawl where they a) require emergency treatment to stressed emergency rooms to treat their withdrawl, b) drink toxic things like methanol or isopropyl alcohol requiring emergency treatment to stressed emergency rooms, or c) self medicate using harder drugs or drugs toxic to their liver like acetominophen thus requiring emergency treatment to stressed emergency rooms.

yeah even South Australia's brief lockdown bottle shops stayed open

history had clearly shown lack of alcohol causes more crime problems than access to it, last thing the police need is stir crazy people who cannot get a drink.

    thats why sailors drank rum

They're worried alchies will turn to Tylenol?

  • Here in England we're in a second lockdown until 2 December. Nothing seems to have changed from before the lockdown, and 2 weeks in the infection rate in the borough of 150,000 people has gone from 270/100,000 to 655/100,000 and in one ward it's 1950/100,000.

    Lockdown light isn't working.

I doubt America will have another full lockdown. It would likely cause a lot more unpleasantness than last time. And last time was no picnic!

Alcohol, and Cannabis shops are open here. We also have delivery of those, and you can buy the alcohol at most stores and online. Bars are mostly there for the tourists. This is a tourist and ag based economy where I live. Ag is doing fine, and tourism has taken a hit this year.

America never had a full lockdown. SOME states and cities decided to lockdown, but not all of them. We don't even have a federal mask mandate.

Too bad that alcohol has to be 70+% to kill the virus, otherwise a global virus killer party might be the solution.  How about a Corona beer?

Most of Europe is in lockdown from what I've read.

Not a classical lockdown which we had in March, no ... the restaurants, cinemas and operas are closed but shops, offices and public transport remain open.

It depends where. Here shops which don't sell essential products are closed, and companies are encouraged to use remote work if possible so a lot of offices are too.
