New Blender version released 2.83.3

Those just downloading due to the Daz Plugin, will likely have the new version, but those of us who have been using it for a while, might have missed it; I'm curious if it's fixed the occasional crash.

The clothes attached the the figure didn't import using 2.83.3, so if it happens to others revert to 2.83.

Yes, do backups first; have previous versions backed up (ie: you need 2.83)

Ton Roosendaal, Head of Blender Development, posted this on Twitter warning about a fake Blender site and trojans.

This version cycle render with GPU is extremely fast!

My setup is Edit - Preferences - System - Cuda

Render settings Sampling usually between - 32 to 128 and Denoiser Enable.

However current new version is 2.83.4 and many people are complaining add on compatibility issue is usually from Blender side due to rapid improvement of Blender.

I don't download new versions straight away - any software.

agree on 2.83 being faster in cycles; my threadripper 1950x  now outperforms my 980ti; I'm suddenly much less keen on giving Nvidia more cash. wink

That's another thing I like about Blender, I can download and run whatever version I need.

That's starting to sound like a better and better idea. My 770 will soon become a paperweight as far as Iray's concerned. It's already deprecated and support will likely be dropped in the next version. Still works in Blender though.

CPU rendering always works. They can't remove support for that (I hope).

How does your compare in terms of heat?

I have my case open, and compressed air for cleaning parts I either can't get to with vacumme or am not risking going so close.

Water-cooled CPU, not overclocked; I never over clock render machines.

The 980ti is a strix which are silent unless under load, otherwise not bad, but up to 5 minutes is the most I'll put up with. Decent results with Iray was taking too long.

So, what is the best Blender version to be used with Diffeo at the moment?

    I would use E-Cycles Blender 2.83.4 and 2.90 beta (parallel install) ...

I use 2.83 without any issues with 1.5 of diffeo; I'll try 2.84 in a day or two I expect.

Same here, Blender 2.83 and Diffeo 1.5.  No issues, other than my own stupidity.

Thanks to all of you. Seems a smart route to go.

I have... fivesix different versions of blender installed. I've tried it with the 2.83 official through the 2.91 alpha and every version has worked.

I'd probably reccomend going with 2.90 myself - adds sweet sweet features like more of the magic thats going on in sculpt mode + rebuild subdivisions which has the best way to implement hd morphs but is a bit more stable than 2.91 (though honestly even blender alphas seem to always be pretty stable for me + blender is real good at saving backups anyhow)

If your feeling real funky grab the bone studio version off of graphicall - it has some real nifty features including scrambling distance which can make your renders absolutely blazing fast (its one of the main things e-cycles includes but this one is free)

@jcade If you look at the diffeo log there are issues in 2.9 as for rigs and morphs since 2.9 changed some apis (as usual in betas). Then this doesn't affect those of you that just do static renderings without posing or animations.

Personally for serious production I'd recommend to stay with the LTS version. This is what LTS is for. Since LTS grants stable apis to the plugin developers, among other things.
