Copying the title is faster than typing "As the title says", and kinder to your readers.

A screen shot would help as I am not clear what you mean.

  • Hi @Richard Haseltine

Here is the screenshot, as circled.

Check which tool you have active. Different tools have different widgets in the middle of the Viewport.

It's camera selected in the scene pane.

Sometimes it disappears in other scens.

This time it appears after resetting UI layout.

pretty sure that is a visual aide for the camera's focal point or something like that. It's been a while

spotlight, yeah that is a handle, try and grab it (left mouse) and see what it does. Plus the spot has a sq handle to control the spread.

Merged threads, though I am very confused as to what the issue is given that you first say it has disappered, then post a screen shot showing it, then ask what it is.

Is he asking about a "tube" or the "cube"?  Sooo, confused.  If it's that "cube" in the center then yeah, I get that once in a while too, but it never shows up in renders and will often go away or disappear if I select my tools less quickly or wiggle the camera a bit.  It never bothered me.  OH, wait..., maybe I'm thinking of a Photoshop glitch.  Regardless, I still don't understand what "tube" he's refering to. sad

it's a tiny cube in Octane, I always need to hide it as not by default

I am pretty sure the cube disappears from time to time, so I am asking how and why can it happen.

I don't know why it appears again. This time it appears after I reset the layout thought it may be a coincidence.

Surely the cube only appears when you have the camera selected in the scene? If you selecct another object (a figure, a prop, or whatever) then the cube disappears, I think.

    Yes, sort of surprise

The camera must be selected for the cube to show, the proper tool needs to be selected as well or the cube wont show. The tools that will show the cube include; Universal Tool, Rotate Tool, Translate Tool, and Scale Tool.
