The DSON importer is designed to enable Poser users to use the newer generation figures in Poser without having to use DS. It does require you to have a newer version of Poser, at least Poser 9.
AFAIK there is no other way of using the Genesis figures in Poser without using DS to set up and export a static obj to use in Poser, and I am certain that is not what you want.
What exactly is your problem about using DSON?
As the Genesis and Genesis 2 figures are all in DSON format (Daz Studio Object Notation) you will need to use the importer to get them into Poser. While it would be great if Smith Micro added native support for DSON, until they do the importer is the only way to make it work.
If you're having any problems using the importer, it might help if you posted your issue here so that inquisitive minds can find out what's wrong.
If you look on the Poser forum, you'll see a thread by Joe Public that is an excellent walk thru for setting up the DSON importer for Poser. The importer is regularly worked on, so a lot of the complaints you've heard about it were from people that never used it or haven't used it since the initial release. While not as fast as loading a native character, it does give acceptable performance from Poser users that are actually using it. As a side note, the promos FWArt did for the M3DTeen Cole Addon were all done in Poser.
DS does have a CR2 exporter. It was how you got Genesis into Poser before the importer.
This is a comprehensive tutorial on how to do it. It can be a bit time consuming but it can be done and once done, You don't have to deal with importer issues if you are having them.

I does require you to have a copy of DS4 or above installed. The obj file when generated has a long odd name but you can easily change it to something recognizable and then hack the cr2 the same as you would any other to point a cr2 at a different obj file.
Are you having issues with the importer?
can they be exported to Blender? I'm newbie at Blender,
You would export to Blender as an obj file rather than a cr2.
Actually this method is obsolete, so I wouldn't recommend it as not only do you export the figure but any clothing as well.. which you would have to adjust using poser's pro tools. Also there are bugs that still exist in the exporter, which hasn't been resolved since the importer is really the recommended way to use Genesis in Poser.
Honestly this functionality needs to be removed as it really can't be used for development for either DAZ or Poser in its current form.
I personally feel the cr2 exporter should be fixed, it isn't only used for exporting Genesis 1 or 2
Can i ask if Joe Publics thread is at renderosity, as I couldn't find it at daz, is it the "how to install Genesis files" that's on Renderosity?

cr2 exporter doesn't work? do you mean it doesn't convert the triax weightmapping to poser's weightmaps?
It does work. I have used it for both Genesis and the Gensis 2 figures to generate custom cr2's. There used to be a long comprehensive thread in the old archives detailing how to do it without the tutorial but the old archives seems to be gone.
The tutorial comes with a number of python scripts that aid in creating the cr2.
It's really a matter of choice and workflow. We found it much easier to generate the cr2's we needed, hack the Poser files as needed, and get on with our workflow which the DSON importer is still a hindrance.

you need DSON to do the tutorial.
gone?
it sucks when comprehensive tuts disappear.
i wanted to convert all my new M6 stuff to poser cr2s.
Thanks :)
No it does not work. The joint centers or scaling is broken once you create the CR2. It is one of the things you need to correct using the Pro version of Poser. If you do not have either Poser Pro 2014 or 2012, then you are out of luck.
The caveat of this is:
1) Only one UV will work per character.
2) New morphs will not work once created, so if any new characters are added you will need to go through the process again.
The other issues should be noted further down in that thread. But it basically takes you back to a one figure character, so it loses all the features of genesis.
Yes it works. Although it may not work in the current release of DS4.6. It does however work in the last stable release of DS 4.5. Which you can still download from your product library. No, you can't have DS4.5 and the current release of DS4.6 on the same system.
You must have Poser 9 or better. Yes, it converts Triax to Poser's WM system.
you need DSON to do the tutorial.
No, you don't need the DSON. The cr2 exporter came long before the DSON exporter. It was the original way Poser users could attempt to get Genesis in Poser. You need a copy of DS4. If you look in your product library, you should have a listing for DS4.5 Pro (inactive). It will give you a download link. The cr2 exporter in this version does work as I have used it many times.

Perhaps not in the current release but it works in the last stable release of DS4.5 and an early release of DS4.6 (IIRC it's from around the release date of G2F) which is all we need. I've never had issue with joint centers or scaling in the cr2's I've created and I have some very customized cr2's. Even if I did, some adjustments and a little cr2 hacking and you're good to go. Not that big a deal.
i have the first DS4 on my old 32 bit pc. i may have the 4.5 installer on a backup. iirc the 4.5 was required to run Aiko5.

It has never worked, especially when it comes to the clothing. I know you want people to believe it does, but I'm telling you from the bug reports I made... it doesn't.
EDIT: It's been so long I don't remember exactly but it was probably animatable joint centers; if all you're doing is just working with the female morphs you will not see the issue at first, as they are about the same height as the default Genesis. However, if you start going between the male, child and various creatures, you will see the export is quite broken when you try to get the clothing to follow along.

the big Genesis win, to me, is the armpits looking human.

The OP doesn't want to use DSON or DS, which honestly makes no sense to me. Sorta like wanting to go from a horse-drawn carriage to a minivan, but not have to have an engine in the van.

It's worked find for us both the figures and clothing. All our cr2 files are customized and we don't "go between" female, male, child and creatures. Female, male child and creatures all have separate and custom cr2's (not that we have much call for creatures). Clothing cr2's are custom to the figure. It's a little more work in the beginning but once it's done, it's in the library and ready to go. There's no need for animated joint centers.
Way back when (some time in 2012, if the date-stamp on the files is any indication), shortly after Genesis was released and well before the DSON Importer, there was a tutorial offered on DAZ that described how to import a Genesis figure into Poser, written by Cliff Bowman. I have a copy of it, and I just checked: it's still available in the DAZ Store: http://www.daz3d.com/tutorials/genesis-to-poser-cr2 (Hmm, I paid a buck less for my copy!)
I went through the tutorial, and it did work. But (and you just knew there was going to be a 'but', didn't you?), it was a huge pain in the never-mind-precisely-where to jump through all the hoops required to get a Genesis-based figure into Poser! That was when I decided that, if I needed to use a Genesis-based figure for whatever it was I was trying to do, I would just do in DAZ Studio; otherwise, if a generation-4 (or earlier) figure would do the job, I'd fire up Poser. And never the twain would meet.
Until DSON; that changed everything. Well, once DSON finally got its act together, which finally happened about the time Genesis 2 came along. Before then, getting a Genesis figure to work in Poser, even using the DSON Importer, was pretty much a hit-or-miss proposition -- usually miss. The truth is, I was never able to get the DSON Importer for Poser to work properly or reliably with a first-generation Genesis figure. But now...? Eh, the occasional poke-through issue, but nothing more serious than that; hence my new motto: "Ah, I'll fix it in Post!"
So, my two cents': bite the bullet, use DSON; it'll save you a ton of money on Maalox!
And Tylenol...
Can I pay for a V5, V6 or Genesis that was designed to work with Poser without DSON, DAz or having to use a hack?
Is V7 going to be compatible with poser pro 2014 or something? I can wait.
HenryChan2 - I feel the same. then DS users say, oh but you own't be able to morphh it into a monster or a child etc, but I would be happy to have a range of different figures like the good old poser using daz content days.
I would be happy to buy each figure separately instead of morph packages.
we can only hope.
Mind you I haven't tried DSON import into poser for a few months so maybe it really has improved. But I just don't see myself being able to load 10 DSON characters fully dressed in their DSON clothes into a poser scene. Still, I will try it one day.
In the meantime I've saved a lot of money at daz that I used to spend on every new vickie thing in the V4 days.
Love esther
Since Poser can't directly open Daz format files, the importer is the only way to get them across without the expense of an additional exporter as mentioned earlier. However, as stated in the very description of the product, this plugin has been superseded by the DSON importer which gives you the FULL functionality of Genesis rather than making compromises and cut-downs.
When started this fever genesis in poser, back in 2012, at the time I was very excited about it, then ... I do not remember if I was vaccinated or not, but the fact is that I ended up leaving that aside.
Now I'm looking for it again.
But now ... With this Iscript DSON and the creation of PoserCF, is much easier and faster (of course, I needed the help of the forum users here, reminding me of how these things work)
because the "auto-fit" tool within daz studio lets you apply clothes M4 for genesis, is then only create a PoserCF thereafter.
Auto-fit daz studio, does not support clothes fit M3, in genesis, but still, even so does 90% of the work (in the second image the jacket is M3, cowboy Ugli)
M4 cowboy clothes perfect fit
I have a question:
The shape of M3 V3 for genesis, works fit hair and beards for genesis?
