I'd love to see something like the actor who plays Poe in Altered Carbon on Netflix. Maybe a hologram character would be fun to see and create.
They haven't done any African old people yet (they did Mabel and Floyd and Mrs. Chow and Mr. Woo)
Larry, Moe and Curly 8?
Cat. There must be a new cat. MilCat was fun, but at this point it's about as useful as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.
There's always Kids 8. Still haven't gotten those.
tj, Shep is best stooge. Heretic :P
Daz housecat with dforce fur is decent enough, I think.
Kids 8 would be nice but somehow I don't have my hopes up for that.
like a new creature creator pack, genesis 1 and 2 had a few after that really just vamps and zombies other than from pas
...still has the same rigging as the 15 year old Mil Cat with no weight mapping so poses that are natural for a cat cause mesh distortions.
Well, they did just do Leroy and Nida. Not as old presenting as Chow and Woo, but still pretty well up there.
+1
I'd go for a nice and bendy Cat 8, for sure.
I think a ton of people want a real Cat 8. I doubt that this will be it because a) the ad verbiage specifies "character"and b.) because I can't see any animal getting a pro bundle ever again given how poorly the previous ones have been accessorized. DAZ makes most of it's money selling add-ons like clothing and and hair items, so beyond breed add ons, the number of things that you can accessorize a cat with is fairly limited.
I think AM has been hinty hinting around with his Felidae line about "domestic" fuzzies...perhaps we'll see a kitty kitty from him. I would absolutely love it. I have the HW Housecat and he looks so great, but I just can't swing LAMH without the Cataylzer. Even with a 1080TI, I can pretty much only render one LAMH animal in a scene with G8 figures before my system goes NOPE. That's pretty much the main reason why I don't really use the HW figures even though I love them. LAMH is just too too too heavy in Iray without the Catalyzer. That and AM's jaunts with dForce hair for animals just keep getting better...with the latest Felidae, the dForce hair looks astounding.
I'll be honest. After the lack of follow through on AM's Rodent Polymorph base, where after a big upfront promotion the plug was pulled before producing the three most commercially obvious products of Rats, Mice and Rabbits, I just can't get excited about an AM cat when compared to the existing HiveWire one. A new DAZ Cat 8 would at least guarantee that a couple of PAs would give the product a shot in it's first run.
I am really not familiar with LAMH. I saw that it is a product here at the Daz store and I also found the Catalyzer you were mentioning. Is that only for AMs products?
How are Hivewire's LAMH animals different? If I buy a product that has LAMH hair, would I need to buy the main LAMH too, or is that just for creating hair?
LAMH Catalyzer is only for AM's products so they can be used in Iray. At least the free LAMH player is also required
Other LAMH products including the Hivewire ones require at least the free LAMH player and only work in 3DL
They don't only work in 3DL...you can use them in Iray, however it involves exporting the hair as obj and then reimporting and adding the uber shader base to make it Iray...but it's the hair geometry that has been exported and imported that will shred your resources.
Also, LAMH Catalyzer requries the separate purchase of the Catalyzer. I don't believe you need the player at all, but it's free anyways. The Catalyzer I think i got on sale for like $10.
Hivewire LAMH animals (and any animal that uses LAMH that is not made by AM) will require the above-mentioned export and import of the hair geometry to obj...if you want to use them in Iray...which will shred your resources. It looks great and I really love the look of the animals, but I just can't justify that much system resource use when I very rarely do a scene with just that one animal. For my use, I'd be posing the animal with a fully-clothed and dForce'd G8 character with geoshells, etc etc etc and even with a 1080TI and 32GB of RAM, that one LAMH animal is usually enough for my system to say NOPE. For example, the scene below required that the fuzzier HW kitty be rendered separately -
Yeah, I thought those were intended to fill that gap as well. Not as visibly wrinkled as the others, but not everyone in their 70s is a shriveled prune.
Wow, that is insane. While they look great it feels like a lot.
I imagine because they have competing products AM wouldn't extend his catalyzer or colaborate with him/her to make one for his animals.
Thank you for clarifying LAMH for me.
On another note, the render looks amazing! Did you add postwork effects with lights and color tints or is it all from Daz?
Especially since black people look a lot better and younger at 70 than other races. Look at Denzel Washington 65 but looks a lot younger.
Pretty well up there? They're maybe late middle age. LOL I would compare them more with Edward and Alexandra.
It's only fair - the old asians and caucasians are REALLY up there. Like late 70's or more. LOL
I'm loving the new Jonathan 8 bundle! It's true he's more of your 'normal' kinda guy, as opposed to the toonish bodybuilders they seem to like to peddle.
As for Nicholas, I also opted to avoid. I really don't like being negative and try to appreciate every artist's work, however his promos do him no justice at all. He's from Emrys. I typically avoid Emrys characters as (to me at least) they all look pretty much identical to one another, but even so, these promo pics really don't help poor Nicholas!
Thanks! I've attached a copy of the before and after post...the before is just the composited image with the fuzzy cat who was rendered separately. Everything else was rendered together. Once I composited the kitty into the scene, I then went through my post process.
Honestly, the two cats and the expression on the fuzzy one's face is my favorite part of the scene. It was just something I put together to compare the same character after I converted her from G3 to G8. G8 is on the left, G3 on the right.
Crone for Etta kinda works
If you own the full LAMH product, you can open the editor and then export the hair as fiber mesh, which for whatever reason is easier on resources in Iray. (To what extent, I don't know.) Before Catalyzer was released, I had no issues rendering LAMH presets after converting. After Catalyzer, I ended up doubling my system RAM, as it is, (was?) a memory hog.
If you do convert to fiber mesh, (or OBJ, for that matter,) it should be one of the last things you do, as the preset(s) must be reconverted if you change the pose later.
As for the next pro bundle, I'm not convinced it will be this week. I recall one female pro bundle that came with a discount for her male counterpart, which wasn't released for about a month, iirc. But this is Daz, and 2020 is their 20th anniversary year, so anything is possible. Except, perhaps, for a Daz Cat 8…

Yeah, I have the full LAMH product, and I was actually talking about my experience with exporting to fiber...when you go with the crazy high numbers to make nice, thick fur it's...hardcore heavy on the system. With Catalyzer, however...I haven't had any issues...though I have noticed it seems to use more system RAM. I also really like that you can load the animal in and pose/manipulate and do what you need, whereas with the obj or fiber, you have to make that the last thing you do. But even so, with just rendering the obj or fiber, it can easily overload the GPU into dropping to CPU and that's not an option for me. My scenes are usually pretty heavy to begin with, so having that obj or fiber on there is oftentimes too much. I know most folks render in layers, and in the case of the scene above I did as well, but for a lot of my scenes I use the in-render bloom filter (rather heavy-handed with it), and that doesn't work so well unless you render in a single pass...so my ultimate goal is to be able to fit the whole shabang onto the GPU at once.
All that aside, AM is using more dForce hair with his new figures and with the recently released Smilodon, the dForce hair actually looks miles better than the LAMH/Catalyzer hair.
I harbor the same resentment over the lack of follow through on common rodents. I purchased it based on the touted future animals that never materialized. I stopped purchasing from the PA. Maybe a housecat and kitten would entice me, but how many furry cat products does one really need? Perhaps the niche has already been filled. It will have to be super realistic and not a huge resource hog to interest me at this point.
...this is why I mentioned displacement based fur, at least for the short hared breeds. Our rendering machines are about same, I have a Maxwell Titan-X, however if the process dumos to the CPU, I only have 24 GB of memory to support it (the most the MB will support, which could mean the process cascading further down into even slower swap mode).
Wendy renders animations with a Ryzen3 with only 8GB of RAM and a 980ti
what the in the hell settings are you people using???
Rendering an empty room with lights in it would take me around 2-3 hours on a RTX 2070 Super, 3600x, 32 GB Ram.
Can't even imagine how it would be with people and hair in the scenes.
