Does anyone have a good solution to Leroy's skin problem? Those black nets/spots on his skin XP. It looks like he has varicose veins or something like that.
ps: I'll check later if it's painted on the skin layer. (I hope it's not)
Okay the body hair is painted on the skin it's not a sepatate layer with overlay color. XP
The dark spots are part of all the layers so if someone keeps it on the base color and reworks the other layer those spots won't be so strong. Till that he won't be a bikini model :)
So if someone wants to work with his skin without the dark spot has to redo some of the layers. This is just my opinion, some accepted PA or old DS veteran could explain this in more detail with more DS slang.
Anyone else that got Leroy early on feeling a bit snubbed ?
Dain8 early buyers got some perks for that. We get nothing even though it's the same thing.
Not everybody wants an airbrushed runway model...there are exponentially more characters in the store that fit that bill than the former. ;)
I bought Leroy and Dain on release day and I got loads of free stuffs to go with them...including 4 free G8 pro bundles (two each). Not sure how much more incentive they can throw in.
If you think that Dain8 early buyers got to buy the 2.20 items (there was no warning they will expire after 48hours like there was with leroy) and later on they got to stack gift cards offer to buy with over 40% discount, I would say there is a big difference between the 2 offers.
I am not saying that the leroy offer was not good by itself, just saying that it doesn't seem fair to Leroy8 early buyers since there really was no other difference between the 2 and they are only 1 week apart.
I wasn't really able to take advantage of the $2.20 items because I'd already bought everything I could that I wanted from them...none were left. When I purchased both pro bundles, I paid just about $60 each time, and I got the Pro Bundle, HD Add-On, 2 free G8 Pro Bundles, and a load of those "$30 from each category" items. All in all, I'd say pretty awesome for $60 each.
I bought them both on day 1, and I didn't even use any of the "perks" from buying Dain on day 1. But I'm pretty happy with what I did get.
There's no rule stating that all pro bundle offers must be equivalent, or that early buyers will get a reward. As a matter of fact, early buyers usually don't get anything extra. So it's not that Daz was "not fair" to Leroy buyers but rather than they were extra nice to early buyers of Dain and CJ.
I agree, I got absolutely fantastic offers for both Dain and Leroy Pro Bundles. Over USD 1,370 worth of content for approximately USD 60 in each case, including a total of four Genesis 8 Pro Bundles for free. My core figure collection grew nicely.
There is a school of thought, floating around, that Daz released Leroy 8 so soon after Dain 8 because of the rather vocal dissatisfaction with the products in the Dain 8 bundles.Of course, that is just speculation. Only Daz knows why Daz marketing does any of the things they do. However, if the speculators are right, it would explain the one week space between the two releases, as well as the virtually identical offers on the promotion pages.
But then again, it could all be part of their 20 year celebration, and there could be another new figure released this coming Tuesday. Certainly the $2.20 price on the special category of products is based on that 20 year mark. And speaking of the 20 year anniversary special offers, I wonder if we'll get such offers for the first couple of months, or if they will show up from time to time throughout year?
Why I said no bikini:
As I see on this picture dark spots and the skin is missmatching. I like Leroy's face and body structure but probably won't work with his skin.
There are small darkspots and there is the dark ring around his belly. I'm thinking about it, but there are no bones, no hard surfaces so no need to darken it.
I'm honestly not seeing what you're saying...I'm working on something atm, but afterwards, I will take a closer look.
Painted details lend personality to a skin, but they limit how broadly the skin can be used. I'm fine with that. Genesis 8 is the first generation since M4/V4 where I have a broad variety of usable and distinctive skins, thanks to Genesis 3 sharing a UV and Redz' G3 Core UV to G8 utilities.
Darker skin is often even darker at creases and folds, and this increases with age. My issue with Leroy, Silas, Sanjay, and Darius 8 is the smoothness (lack of pores, texture) of their skins. Of course, Owen and Landon are too smooth also, but there are many other options for lighter-skinned males.
The smoothness should easily be rectified by increasing the HD details as well as SubD. You can definitely push most of the HD add-ons past 100% and get amazing results...and you'll want to render HD details most often at SubD 4.
Thanks, and I've cranked some HDs to 175% @ SubD4 in order to get them to show up, but this still doesn't change a smooth skin into anywhere near Dain, Babina, Leisa, or Vladimir.
Not sure of your render settings but for me the dark spots don't look like that.
For me they look like normal skin imperfections after an age.
Edit:
Regarding the discounts, I know nothing is guaranteed and I am a lot more happy with Leroy than with Dain, considering I have not even installed any of the Dain clothes as I will not use them if they don't get some fixes or I have enough time to fix them myself (much later on).
I'm kind of upset that I did end up buying Dain in the end but didn't get any kind of perk for buying him and also lost the chance to get 2.20 items (I didn't have any of them and there were at least 6 or 7 that I liked). I hoped that I would at least get something for getting Leroy early but apparently no.
I understand the marketing behind giving rewards to early buyers just sometimes (and very rarely at that). That doesn't mean I agree with it or like it. That's why at first I said I was feeling snubbed, using "fair" is indeed not accurate.
I have Silas, Leroy, Sanjay, and Darius 8, but I haven't done anything with them. I do love Darius 7...that's one of my favorites, but I know the skin is completely different. If I get some time, I'll play around with them.
Since you like Darius 7, I presume you know of these preset options Hellboy made for him? Thanks for all your help.
Yeah, I have them, but I actually prefer Darius' base maps because I put facial hair on him anyways.
Coo-well! I needed help with Darius 7's Vaseline lips, and merely decreasing the Glossy Roughness was not enough. So, the lip preset was a bonus for me.
Hmmm, that was an older image before I really came up with my "all-around method" to the new chromatic shader. I'll have to work up some new closups. I primarily work with females because most of my stuff is fanart of my own original in-game characters (and I play almost exclusively girls), but I do have a few male characters that I use a lot.
This was the original render before postwork. I used a backlight and I don't remember what other lights I used, but there are clearly dark dirty looking smudges where there is no reason to be... I still haven't checked the files yet. Also in a previous image, his knuckles looked especially dark. I should probably try with different lighting. And I'm not sure if the fact that I mixed him with Dain makes a difference because I used Leroy's HD morph, not Dain's.
Looking at it again, is it possible his head is creating that as a shadow? I should probably just look at the files...
That's the thing about aging: Spots for no apparent reason; dark places from melanin building up. Daz was aging a black man, and they knew it wouldn't be convincing by adding a bunch of wrinkles; so, they did it the way it usually happens to dark skin, that is, by adding spots.
But these aren't spots, huge sections... Maybe it's the lighting and those are just really weird shadows, not sure.
That picture is one of the promos not my render, but I'm experiencing the the same in DS. (Sometimes the forum doesn't upload files for me so i grabbed the promos displaying the thing.) Leroy's clothes are better than Dain's. Faces and morphs are good I bought him because I could picture him in some renders. I'm grumpy cat because of the skin, but probably I will use Lewis' skin instead of Leroy's. Or spend some time to clean up the black belt, spots. If I would paint IRL someone with that belly I'd get asked to correct it.
This honestly looks like aging dark skin to me. As @xyer0 already mentioned, skin with more melanin ages differently from lighter skin tones.
