...I wish I had the hardware (and software) to animate like this:

This was made eight years ago and I still find it impressive.
I find it very easy to do too.
Well this one is a simple gif with three or four layers being played through. Generate three renders with the finger pose left, right and center, put the finger in the center render twice in the gif layers so it goes back and forth smoothly, finished
I think the OP meant their actual digit
These are professional quality creation. Not easy even if with hardware and software.
...I saw in the credits back then. Software and hardware I could only dream of having at my disposal. That would have got me into 3D animation as I did film based animation over 30 years ago (16 mm on a multi plane stand, both cel and card).
wll to be fair today you can make things like that:

or like this:

...not on my old cobbled together hardware in any reasonable time frame, if at all. Crikey I'm still working with DDR3 (capped at 24 GB), a single Nehalem era CPU, and PCIe 2.0 Yeah, maybe about the same era as what was used to create the short, but definitely not a high end rig as was likely used to create the animation above.
I'll admit, Unity is impressive until it comes down to inserting characters in a scene as (at least to me) they tend to look like more like game assets (which granted is primarily what Unity is used for) compared to what I could dial up in Daz, or even the character in the Ruin short (custom modelled in Modo and rigged with Rhiggit).
oh ... reading the OP again you might be right LOL
