Is there a way to project an opacity mask onto an object?

[Is there a way to project an opacity mask onto an object?] Asking because: I have a photogrammetry scanned object that I want to blend into an environment, so I want to reduce opacity (soft gradient) around the peripheral edge of the OBJ.

Usually, i could just make an opacity map in Substance Painter or Photoshop. But like most photo-scanned objects, the OBJ has a very complex UV and in this case has multiple UDIM tiles and is difficult to make an opacity mask for it in Substance Painter for that reason. (Not impossible, but just tedious).

Attached image of object with each material zone colored different color.

If worst comes to worst, I will just have to blend it in post using photoshop. But wondering if there's another solution like ability to project a kind of opacity decal or something that i havent thought of?

apply it to a plane and apply an opacity map in the most appropriate chanel - cutout perhaps. You could then orientate it to the camera.

It may depend on what affect you're trying to achieve.
