Is the new MESH GRABBER the game changer I think it is?

https://www.daz3d.com/mesh-grabber

Checking out this new release and I'm wondering why we're not talking about this.

This looks like an incredible new option for poke through, and well, almost everything else.
Any thoughts, ideas about this?

Seems easy to use too.

  • I am also VERY curious about this product. dForce is great, and so are specific morphs for products... but this editing tool could potentially fill so many interesting niches.

My reaction was....AT LAST...  a version of Poser's morph tool in Studio

It will depend on how much you think you will use it. For myself, it was too expensive for the few times I might need it. For me poke through is pretty much a thing of the past, for the rare occurence, I know eactly what product to use. I have yet to feel like I needed a deformer, although I grant my Content Liberay is large.

too bad there is no universal script so that this will work on MACs too.

The trouble is it is a plug-in, and those are platform (and bit architecture) specific.

    Yeah, real bummer.

I'm confused... don't deformers already do this? Or am I not understanding? (probably the case I'm a little out of it today)

I see! Thank you, that made sense to my poor tired brain. In that case, sounds awesome.

It looks pretty cool to me. How I wish I had this when struggling with V4 era clothing!

    Damn

    Bought it.

What's really exciting me is all those situations where I COULD spend 2 hours morphing a sofa to fit someone's heinie, but it'd be so much easier to just do something like this.

Exactly! This is like 1000x easier than dFormers for creating faux-soft body interactions.

Oh the MAC-pain of not being able to use this piece of innovative (and time-saving) work

Great for creating morphs, at least from my initial test; a simple example below.

I loaded a plane with the options 3M and 500 divisions. Used the Grabber, exported.

I then deleted the plane, created a new one of the same size and imported the morph in morph loaded, as you can see, the morph can be applied.

    Edit:

Works just the same on a Genesis figure; it may be quicker to export to Blender (or wherever) for more intricate morphs, but for quick fixes and more simple morphs it could be much quicker.

What percentage of active DSers are MAC users?

well that would be about as easy to ascertain as how many DAZ users are left handed or vegans laugh

I know a few on the forum are as the post specific things about it but it doesn't tell me any more than how many use Photoshop or Gimp and DAZ wouldn't really know either.

We only know more PCs sell than Macintoshes in the general population but possibly more creative people buy Macs due to certain features especially musicians.

  • I am so excited to see the new mesh tool that came out ( https://www.daz3d.com/mesh-grabber ). I love this tool and I am so excited to see this option finally come to Daz. It's long overdue.

I bought this tool, and highly recommend it. I was so tired of jumping in and out of Hexagon and Blender to do minor touch-ups.

Seriously, this should just be a normal feature and should be fully integrated into Daz3d in the next update. PLEASE DEVELOP THIS FURTHER!

  • YES IT IS! They need to develop this further and make it a standard feature in Daz! I bought it and LOVE it!

Who do I need to bribe to get a Mac version?

rather than using dformers etc, i would export to blender to do the morph then export back.  This saves a lot of time for basic morphs i would assume.

Wouldn't DAZ know how many people have downloaded and registered DS for MAC vs how how many people downloaded and registered DS for Windows? That should give at least a rough idea of what percentage of DS users are MAC users.

only if they use DIM and it is monitored

and even if they do would they pass that information on to PA's

they have utterly no idea I render in Carrara, iClone, UE4 and Poser in preference to DAZ studio for exampledevil and when I do I use Octane

The thing I see now? I want the ability to add more edges and vertices to better define the faces I play with. ATM the models faces are pretty static so I am stuck working with what is there.

Here is an example. I want to add thin defines spikes to this limb. Yet because the face of the model is what it is, I am stuck with a thicker structure than desired.

Still, I love this tool and really want it expanded on and to become a core part of Daz.

We need to be able to better control how thin and thick extrusions and such are :)

doesnt daz have a way to convert to sub d or something, which subdivides the mesh ?

  • It would also be great if we had more of a bevel option for creating a crisp edge when toying with the mesh. This would be great for architecture and adding things like scales and other fine details to models.

I'm pretty sure DAZ has a good idea.
