Is GenX worth it?

As Havos has said, Sven, creating a .cr2 of your morph and using that is something that I have found almost foolproof. You can blow away the .cr2 when you're done, if you wish.

..I was even able to transfer Fabiana's Druscilla Goth for V4 and Dario Fish's HFS shapes for Genesis (both Rendo purchases).

I did not mean a CR2 per character, it is just a one off operation to create a V4 CR2 with all morphs injected. I will not delete it since that is from then on the source figure I use for V4 with GenX.

Remember most characters do not have custom body morphs, and are a preset using the standard morphs, ie V4++ etc.

  • Tks @Havos and @SixDs, I'll see how that works;)

Yup so I managed to export a V4 cr2 and it worked as the source figure, created a descent looking Agnes morph:) Some morphs seem to have been lost on the way, but nothing I can't fix with the Genesis original morphs, so tks again... now off to experiment some moreyes

  • Next problem: The Agnes morph uses some sort of scaling, causing her to float above the ground. Probably because the original root node is not at ground level. Tried to fix it with the joint editor, selected the Genesis hip and tried to transform it to make the feet touch the a ground, but nothing happens when I transform the hip centerpoint. How do I use the joint editor?

Moving the centre point chnages where the centre point is relative to the model, it doesn't chnage the location of the model in space. You probably need to translate the figure to stand on the floor, then use ERC Freeze (being careful to apply ERC Bake first if therea re existing links) to tie the translation to the morph.

Ok, will look into it. So do I translate the figure node or the hip node?

  • Hip, I would think, since it's related to posing (keeping the feet on the floor).

    So, uh... where is GenX?

Purchased it, downloaded it... can't find it. Read the PDF but don't understand it.

    Thank you!

Get the serial number in your account and enter it in DS/about installed plugins! Restart DS!

I'm interested in picking this up, but I'm a bit confused on which products you need to transfer Genesis 1 up to Genesis 3. The base product seems to be just for pre-G1 stuff up to G2.

You need GenX2 and both the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 add-ons.

Well, I managed to find GenX and do something with it...

Now I just need to figure out how to make it do what I want it to cool

    Some other time...

Any successful renders to show your transfers? Curious!

Well FWIW, here's V4 Agnes transferred to G1, and further tweaked with some custom morphs.

Is there a good tutorial specifically for how to load a customized V4 or M4 character with all of their morphs into the GenX transfer program? (And how to find that morph

I don't know if it's "good" exactly. But back in 2015 I did write up a tutorial of my own on this plugin because I always found the original documentation to be confusing at best.

Please note that is has not been updated since I first put it up. It only covers up through the G2M/G2F figures, but the basics should apply the same to the G3F/G3M. I keep trying to get around to updating it for current usage, and I just haven't been able to get the time to do it.

My version of the tutorial is a zip file that contains both a written format (it's a .RTF, so most word programs should open it just fine - like MS Word, Open Office, etc). There's also a screenshot tutorial which is a bit quicker to digest and shows the process visually. The written format is very long, so take it in small bites, I guess.

If you want a PDF version, Dr. Jellybean over on ShareCG converted it to a PDF as well. And that is linked on the ShareCG page with my original format.

I know it won't answer every question, but maybe it will help some folks with it. This is a utility that I used like crazy with my art before everything got insane with my offline life. I've converted M3/V3 characters as far forward as the G2M/G2F's. So yeah, I'd say the plugin is very worth it. Your mileage will vary, depending on what morphs you are converting and what sorts of limitations each figure has. But I've had very good luck with it up to this point.

I haven't yet tried it on the G8's or G3's, but I can't imagine it would be too much different thn G1 or G2's.

This is what I covered in the tut :

-- Converting from a .duf file (performing .cr2 export)
-- Converting from V4/M4 or V3/M3 to Genesis
-- Converting from Genesis to G2F or G2M
    -- Converting Morph Dials Only

Anyway. I'll stop rambling. Hope this helps someone.
