Linday's Classic Long Wavy Hair

Linday's hairs that use dForce cloth simulation are some of my favorite in the store, at least the ones I have so far. The new Classic Long Wavy Hair looks really good too, but I find it interesting that it's a cloth sim again rather than dForce hair sim. The dForce hair doesn't seem to look as good as the system Linday has devised for the cloth sim. For some reason, the dForce hair often looks clumpy to me, like it's not individual strands but strand groups instead. I could be way off since I haven't had experience with official dForce hair yet. I'm just basing my opinion on the images I've seen (but to be fair, I know some types of real hair is clumpy, so that could be a style choice.). I'm interested to see if Linday will be making anymore official dForce hair in the future or not. Just out of curiosity, if you have a choice, would you pick a dForce hair over the cloth sim versions or vice versa?
If I could make one suggestion that might make Linday's hairs more functional, it would be to add bones to different sections of the hair so it can be posed easier in more complex poses/scenes before the sim is started. I'm not sure if it's possible, but It would make life easier if it is. Either way, thanks for the great hair Linday.

I prefer the older style more than the new dforce sim hair. like you, I haven't seen any that look that great compared to the ones from Linday. I purchased one from PhilW to see how it would work/look and while it did the job, I wasn't that impressed with how it looked, probably due more to the tech than the creator/addon.
Once I figured out how to use the Linday hair I find it to be fantastic. I do prefer it to the dforce hairs as well
Despite some peoples' excitement over Strand Based Hair (SBH) I have only a seen a couple of examples that look good and wayyyy too many that look just horrid, IMO. I understand the excitement for the TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT of SBH, but I think it has a ways to go yet. The technology may be a leap ahead but the results are several steps back. Like, really bad hair implant plugs on a mannequin bad. Since I am rendering for a final look, NOT to show off my technical chops, I will stick with the likes of Linday, Kool, OOT and SWAM (and others!) until SBH gets sorted out to not look like mop strings protruding from the skull. So far I think the SBH animal fur is closer to warranting the excitement. (Still, if given a choice, I'd choose LAMH and LAMH CATALYZER hands down over SBH on animals).
But, please, PAs, do keep innovating and making progress!
I could only agree. Still do not like the hairline from the front.
Looks much better from the sides or from the back.
I'm glad I saw this thread. I passed on this because I thought it was the 'new' dForce hair stuff which I can't use. Love Linday's previous hairs with the dForce cloth sims added. Into the cart this beauty goes.
I had alot of trouble with the dforce hair sim models. Im glad Linday went back to the cloth sim engine which works great for me. Will absolutely purchase.
SBH hair can look fairly good in my opinion but to me, it's really difficult to get it right. dForce hair based on sbh tech wouldn't be any different. Granted this is from my perspective as a non-PA, bt I imagine, it's the same for the PAs, only at a much higher level.
However when you can model the hair correctly, it can look fairly realistic, here is one example of mine:
I love all Linday's hair sets. this one was another must have as far as I am concerned. . Its a lovely hair piece, it reacts well to the deforce wind node. looks nice and messy. Yup I will get lots of use from it.
I love this hair set. its prefect for wind blow hair type renders.
Yup, I really like it.
Note: Based off of the promo renders, Linday may have celebrated their 35th B-Day? If so, Happy Birthday Linday!.
The problem I have with all the dforce hair examples (not cloth) i've seen, is that the noticibly thick hairs make me think "head beard" every time. They also always seem to have weird alaising effects in renders, while usally (likely due to peoples inexperience), not exaaactly being "adventurous" in style.
So i'm glad theres still the "old" cloth type being made!
Your hair looks very nice. I especially like the hair line and its look from the front - well done.
i'm a little confused about this "dforce cloth engine" that is mentioned - it says in the "compatible software: dforce cloth".....is this something different to the dforce that is currently in DS now? Is it a new thing? I'm so lost.
It's the version of dForce introduced in 4.10 and used for clothes. It's now refered to as "dForce cloth" as opposed to the dForce Hair system introduced in 4.11 and used for hair converted from strand based hair.
Thanks Leana!
