Daz crashes at startup, with fatal error

Hello everyone,

I am having some serious problem with Daz. If I open any old file, it works, but if I click the save button, when I am opening it again, it gives me this error. I can not work with anything that I am currently saving. I can t save anything, because it won't open again.

I saw other people had this problem, but during the render, I can render, I can open any old file, but starting with today, whenever I save any file, I can t open it again. Please...does anyone know what could be the cause to this?

I would highly apprecciate. Thank you for your attention and your time!

For example, here is an attachement. I am succesfully opening the "male pose.duf", I make a copy of it (afraid to not lose this original file), I name the copy as "male pose - Copy.duf", I open it succesffully, I CLIKC SAVE without changing ANYTHING FROM IT, I close Daz, and when I open the copied file..The error appears...can't open it again, at all.

  • Whata re your system specs, and what security software are you using? Have you tried saving to different locations?

  • Whata re your system specs - I have a 64 Windows, with 32GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Nvidia iRay 1080 Ti.

what security software are you using? Nod 32 Antivirus

Have you tried saving to different locations? yes, nothing works, I can't open that file ever again.

  • Ok..I just realized something. This happens ONLY at this character (This is a 5 book series, and I need to use the same characters), but I always copied, and created a new pose and outfit for the next book cover, with this same character, never had this problem. Until now..

For other Figures it works ok...

  • Another thing that I observed is that all this error it might be because of "Necromancer Robe" from Xurge3D. The character had this robe as the outfit, and after I deleted it from the scene, it works perfectly. But I still don't understand why the old duf files opens very well, and I have the same necromancer robe on the character. ...

Fixed #DS-1982: Some legacy figures crash on load when IK chains are present

That's assuming these are scenes with an older, legacy/Poser rigged figure - I had rather assumed that not being able to save and reopen any scene included testing with a simple primitive and nothing else in the scene. [Rob points outt hat the reports above do show DzIK::doCreation() so I should have realised.)

So...because of "Necromancer Robe" from Xurge 3D, is this happening?

But why I am able to open an old file with this outfit, but when I save it, it wont open again. Now suddenly..it doesn't work. Is this possible to be fixed?

It is fixed, see the change log - you can access the fix now via the current Public Build (beta) if you need to, although that does currently have a lock on running more than one instance of that version at one time (future builds will restore the ability to run multiple instances, in a way that isn't subject to the issues that can occur currently, but if you need the feature now you will have to balance your requirements). I would assume it's the base figure, not the robe, that has the problem IK chains but that may be wrong.

Hello again and thank you very much for trying to help. It s surely the robe, because I deleted it but kept everything else, and in this way it works, no error at opening the file after saving it for several times. I tried on a new random figure to attach the robe, and it closes directly when it loads, aomdefinetely that s the problem.

What s the Public Build? I can fix this error with the Public Build? How can I do that?

I am sorry  for so many questions..but I really liked and needed that robe.

    thank you very much again.

"Public build" refers to the the current beta version. Have you ever installed a beta before?

Ok..I installed the Pro Beta version, I moved all my contect, it looks like everything is in there. AND the NECROMANCER ROBE IS WORKING NOW! How so?

And..I don t see any difference, it looks exactly the same? Should I use only the Beta version from now on? or how?

Can I use again the original Daz Studio?

  • At some stage the General release will get an update, which will include the fix for this bug. In the meantime you can use the ebta, or the release build if you can work around the IK issue, or a mix as suits you - it depends on whether any changes in the ebta (most notably that it is currently locked so you may have only one instance of the beta running at once on a single machine) are an issue fr you.

You shouldn't need to move content, just tell the beta where the content is - you can run http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/save_mapped_paths/start in the non-beta, then run the script that creates in the beta to make its content directroies match.
