Rather than derail this thread I actually started a Twinmotion thread when I first got it

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/326986/twinmotion-by-unreal-epic-games-is-free-until-november#latest
p0rt shared their opinions there too laugh

it is only an ArchVis game based engine but it comes down to what you want to do

not everyone is interested in rendering one PBR frame of realistic DAZ people in Dforced drapery

and I do that too, there is no law saying you cannot do both sorts of art

the mods care to much for trash, and deleted my posts, like 90% if my posts

Rage 2 is a flop, Bethesda might always release an SDK for idtech6 which can handle massive textures with a virtual texture cache in the phyiscal RAM, so the GPU can request 200x 2048x2048 textures per frame when they are not stored in VRAM

Yea, but what hardware do you need to handle that?  AFAIK @Sadkitty_Carrara is doing this on a fairly average PC.

    Ryzen 3 3200g 8GB RAM 980ti

yep was emergency buy as my better one was damaged by my cleaning and cannot mount a GPU

I admit to being a bit confused though

again not wanting to derail this thread

its a free software one of many I use and being ArchVis lends itself to showcasing houses as opposed to rendering one room

    so why the hostility

I use iClone, Carrara with Octane Render, Poser, Unreal Engine 4, Flowscape and sometimes even Blender

and many other softwares like Mandelbulber 3D, have over 1K of videos on YouTube done very quickly as I actually do not spend much time on my PC

(I do on my iPad browsing, reading) and I don't do Arty stuff really either its more like gaming for me to be honest

point is they are all tools maybe P0rt should share more of his renders and less opinion just saying, render the darn house

this looks great and is in my cart, but it says modern home 2? is there a modern home 1 somewhere and i just can’t find it in the store? lol

I would assume the implication is it's a sequel to 22 Parker Road, given they're by the same author (and the older set even appears in the background of some of the new promos).

It uses the same walls around the house and the 2 fit together really easily.

its a beauty for sure. High scale stuff though ... I don;t make enough to live in the bathroom.

Yeah that's pretty much the norm for any homes in the store here. Everything is either an $8000/month Manhattan paradise or a rat-infested horror movie location.   ;)

Ahhh but Brooklyn is really coming up these days with the hipster invasion. laugh

I'm playing around with the house and generally like it very much ... I noticed the house loads with default all window shutters down, making the interior unnecessary dark if you light the scene with HDRI. I couldn't figure out how to remove the shutters. Also, it appears to me you can't remove one wall? I couldn't even select the wall with the geometry tool, otherwise I would have taken that route and just deleted the walls I don't need.

When you can't select geometry with the Geometry Editor Tool, there is usually some mesh between your camera and the section you're trying to select. Hiding bones in the Scene tab, or material zones in the Surfaces > Editor does not hide that mesh from the tool. Open your Tool Settings, (with the Geometry Editor Tool active,) and hide face groups, surfaces or regions from there, until you can see the section you want to modify. Then the tool should be able to select the wall. Make sure the Selection Type is Polygon Selection, and it will probably help if the Selection Mode is Drag Selection.

Once you have selected the polygons for the wall, right-click and select Geometry Assignment > Create Selection Set from Selected…, name the new Selection Set and click on Accept. For example, Left Outside Wall Floor 2. Save the scene. Now when you need to hide that wall, you can turn off visibility on the Selection Set.

The advantage is you can include polygons with multiple material zones. The disadvantage is DS does not remember the visibility state of Selection Sets, (or any of the Geometry Editor visibility icons,) so you will need to hide the Selection Set everytime you open the scene, assuming you need the wall hidden all the time.

Thank you @L'Adair that's very helpful. I figured it out meanwhile and was able to delete wall or window but there some lights I couldn't switch off. I tried the handle light on/off but some lights were still on. I deleted all props with emissive surfaces but there are still some lamps on the ceiling I couldn't get rid off.

Also, since I can't remove the window shutters separately without deleting the window or part of the window as well, I can't really do shots with window reflection. A bummer, that was one of my major ideas for this set! That was quite a frustrating evening for me. Sad, because I really love this set and the interior looks very good. I have submitted a ticket for a refund. I'll look around which other modern interior homes I can find.

Where there's a will, there's a way, as the saying goes. I have this set but haven't loaded it yet. However, if you end up removing the glass with the shutters, you can always put a single polygon plane there, for the glass. Or get real fancy and use a flattened cube for "solid" glass.

@Asari, I loaded the house in DS. It will take a bit of work, but removing the "shutters" can be done. (For anyone who visualizes something on the outside of the building when you read the word "shutters," you may think of these as "vertical blinds". That's what my mama always called them.)

    1. Make the Geometry Editor Tool active.
    2. Select the house.
    3. Right-click and Select All
    4. Right-click and select Visibility > Hide Selected Polygons
    5. In the Tool Settings pane, expand Surfaces.
    6. Locate Frame4 and click on the eye icon to make these polygons visible.
    7. Each slat is a single polygon. Carefully select the slats you want to hide, so you don't catch any of the frame.
    8. Assign the slats to a Selection Set.
    9. Hide the Selection Set.

    There you go.

need to install my Shader Doctor plugin to Carrara on this PC to fix the Poser highlight so we will just say it was a wet day ......

My house started out an $8000/month Manhattan paradise but since I've been living in it for ten years it's now a rat infested horror movie location.

Has anyone else noticed that the "Crossroads" prop doesn't load (missing data files)? In fact, it doesn't even install those pieces. Funky character in the archive (%D0%A1 -> С) for the "C" in Crossroads in the data path (shows as a ?), and in the .duf file that loads it, and in the geometry and uv files. Even the Manifest looks good, but the "C" in the Crossroads elements isn't really a "C". The metadata, too. I had to replace every "C" in "Crossroads" in every file to get it to work.

It doesn't really have a place in this product, not being part of the scene, but it matches the road segments from 22 Parker Road, so I guess it's an expansion of sorts...

Mmm bet the Poser one does

not a solution but since I use the Poser format ones in Carrara something to bear in mind if I ever get a useable version of DAZ studio again after 4.12 killed that app for me
