How do you roll back?

I am NOT liking the new Daz I want to go back to 4.9... Ever since I "upgraded" I have had non stop issues. With hair, with rigging with programs crashing, crashing during posing.. This new version is broken in so many ways...

Is there a way I can roll back to  4.9?

  • While you could open a support ticket, it would probably be more productive to try to figure out and resolve the issues you are having - it's quite possible that they are not down to the DS updates and would affect 4.9.x.x too. Please give your system specifications and describe the issues you are having.

Well in the mean time I have things that need to get done. How do you roll back?

You need to have archived an installer of 4.9 yourself. Older versions are Not available to the public.

I had a recent isue with getting DPC_Watchdog_Violation blue screens after 4.12. Turns out I hadn't ever updated my motherboard BIOS. Did that and everything is stable again.

Upgrading your video card drivers may help, if you are using Iray.  When I first installed Daz 4.10, I couldn't make it work properly until I did.

Richard is probably right that it's most likely not DS releated unless it was a bad install. I'd re-install again and work from there..... also update graphics drivers was a good suggestion. All the best.

Any version you want as long as it's the current release version.

    @Angel_Wings

It's not Studio if you've been having trouble with 3 different versions. It's your computer and/or setup.

@fastbike1, I got the impression Angel_Wings upgraded directly from 4.9 to 4.12. If that's the case, she wouldn't have seen issues with the two in between.

@Angel_Wings, Chances are the issues you are seeing are hardware related. As Sevrin recommended, you should update your video card drivers, if you're using an Nvidia card. Depending on the age of your computer, there may be other component drivers that have updates. It couldn't hurt to update those as well. Assuming a Windows computer, make sure to set a Restore Point before you do.

I know it won't help you get 4.9 back, but going forward, save copies of the installer files for each release, to make going back possible. (If Tech Support does make 4.9 available to you, be sure and archive a copy as backup.)

I use DIM, and when it's time to update, I go into the settings and change the Downloads path. I'll browse to my backups folder and create a new folder named, for example, "Release 4.12.0.86". I select the new folder as the Downloads path. I'll then close settings. There is an option at the bottom of the Downloads tab to Install after download, which I usually disable. I then download just the set of files that have been updated for the new release. (These will vary, depending on what products you have that needed updating. My files always include an updated Decimator and updated Measure Metrics, for example.)

Once the files are downloaded, whether I install or not, I go back into the Settings and change my Downloads path back to my primary DIM downloads folder. It's actually a very quick and easy process. I do this for both general releases and beta releases.

    Good luck.

So I still have the IM00013176-02_DAZStudio411Win64bit.zip file from the last 4.11 update.  I have been using the Public Build of 4.12 mostly and haven't upgraded my production install.  I've had crashes with 4.12 I didn't have with 4.11, so I figured I'd like to have a 4.11 installation and a production installation of 4.12, so that I'd get upgrades as they are released.

What is the best way to go about this?

Currently, the beta and the release versions of Daz Studio are both 4.12.0.86. Based on the change log, I expect the next update to be released will be the 4.13 beta. If you want to keep both 4.11 and 4.12 installed, the easiest thing to do is leave your computer as it is now. Until the next beta is released, (and the change log shows no changes at this time,) you already have the most recent versions of 4.11 and 4.12 installed.

That's what I plan on doing, installing the 4.12 Released version when I'm ready to update to the next beta release.

I just had to restore to a date prior to Daz 4.12. Luckily I created a restore point prior to the 4.12 install but if you didn't your PC automatically creates sporadic restore points. Type create a restore point in the search bar of your PC (system restore is located in the control panel) and choose restore to an earlier date. Find a date prior to you downloading 4.12 and select it. You have the option of scanning for affected programs - meaning programs you might have to reinstall if they were newly installed after the restore point you selected. This will not affect documents or image files saved recently but if you had windows updates or new programs installed recently you might have to reinstall or reupdate such. No big deal and if it was you can undo the restore anyway.
