    Entry #: 4
Entry Title: "They’re here! And, they want popcorn."
    Artist Name: Diomede64
Summary Description: Child is watching the movie Poltergeist and an arm comes out of the TV, and green creepy-ness comes out of the closet. Of course, she offers the ghost popcorn. The image was made in two steps. The first step was making an image to mimic the old movie. The second step was to construct a new scene with the first render as an image on a modern flat screen TV.

    Step 1 - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/31940/P60
    And
    Step 2 - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/31940/P165
List of all created or significantly enhanced objects:
Splines include: old analog TV complete, the frame of the flat screen TV, the rug (replicated), the walls, the closet door, and the cable TV box.
Non-spline created stuff – pretty much everything else. The hair for both girls was made using the hair room. The nightshirt for the girl on TV is a vertex model converted to a conforming figure in Studio. The clothes for the girl offering popcorn were made by morphing the K4 and then defining new shader domains for the shirt and the pants. The arm coming out of the TV is a vertex model.

List of all created or significantly enhanced objects:
Splines include body parts for tin man, the light circles, the chair, the pentagram, the pedestal, and the walls . The spline body parts were combined with the “man” object and the “malehd” face from the object browser to make the tin man, then rigged and posed.
Nonsplines include the plugs and wires coming out of the chair (vertex objects then rigged and posed).

Entry Title: "Movie Night With Secret Neighbours"

    Artist Name: Antara

Summary Description: The humans settle for the movie night, unaware that fairy-folk neighbours have been drawn to their windows to watch too. This image isn't what I wanted it to be, but it's all I had time for....

Link to at least one WIP Posting:
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/491304/

List of all created or significantly enhanced objects:
Splines object: curtain tie. The house has been morphed, the trees have been created/reshaped. Many shaders are my own, some specially created.

Content credit list: One object from the Carrara's "Mesh Objects" - woman figure, with 3D Universe's Ranger hair parented to the head, Seashore House by Ken Gilliland, Dream Home living room furniture couch, AllenArt Free Antique Floor Lamp by Laurie Allen, Loft LCD TV from Loft Living Room by Richabri (Rick Bridenbaker), Nursoda's Koit and Puntik with their default clothes, leaves and flowers from various HowieFarkes packages, curtain is a free 3ds model from 3DBar.

Process and Post: Well, process was pretty much throwing things together and then trying out lights and minor composition changes. Nothing special. Post is based on 2 renders, one with the glass in the window, the other with the glass morphed out. This was done to make sure I have all the render passes for the items inside the room as well as outside. Then I combined passes from both renders. I used the distance pass from the no-glass render to drive DOF blur, and used reflections passes from the with-glass render. I also used the index pass from with-glass render to create masks which separate outside world from the inside and affect them differently with things like color balance. Other than that, the modifications are just render pass intensities increase/decrease, i.e. intensifying the glow of the TV by duplicating the glow channel.

Entry Title: Eye of the Tiger

    Artist Name: Evilproducer
Summary/Description: I've been in awe of Stu and his take on popular movie icons, especially his Ray Harryhausen inspired renders. With that being said, I blame Stu for inspiring me to do my own take on a classic Harryhausen scene. It's the climactic battle between Sinbad and the Sabertooth Tiger possessed by the evil Queen Zenobia at the end of the film, Sinbad And The Eye Of The Tiger.

List of all created or significantly enhanced objects: I made the stairway/dias thingy in the Spline modeler, I made the textures for it by combining procedurals and my own image maps, I made the spear/polearm in the spline modeler, I made the pyramid in the spline modeler and converted to a vertex model to better paint it with the 3D paint tool, I made a custom procedural shader for the pyramid, I made the icicles in the VM, I made customized shaders for them, I customized made my own shaders for Sinbad's clothes, I added Carrara hair for Sinbad and the Sabertooth, I used a 3D painted map to distribute the icicles on the pyramid. I used two custom volumetric clouds.

    Entry #: 1
    Entry Title: Forbidden Donuts
    Artist Name: Stezza

Just love this one, it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me hungry.... But seriously, great to see an image that makes me laugh but is also a fine piece of art. And I was impressed by all the objects stezza made, and the sense of atmosphere in the piece.

    Entry 9
    Entry Title: Dragon V Cyclops
    Artist Name:Stu Sutcliffe

This is an amazing piece. Such a talented artist, particularly like the triangle composition drawing our eyes up into the clouds.

The last is a toss up between Antara's fanciful image, it's got t hat beautiful glow, a warm fuzzy feeling, PhilW's had me chuckling, and Evil's holoscene park, in the end I picked evil's because it made me laugh loudest and was an interesting twist on the theme.

I thought all the images were wonderful, it was great to see them developing from concept to end product. If I was giving an honourable mention it would have to be shared between diomede64 and ncamp. Great stuff.

Thanks to Evil for his hard work again and Ringo and Daz for their kind and generous sponsorship!

Getting the choice down to just 3 was tricky. I tried to focus on what I felt exemplified the theme and on what made me chuckle. Here is my final list:

    PhilW #3
    3D Cinema

Nice element reversal. I also like that only one person sees the alien - is he just hallucinating? ;-)

    evilproducer #10
    Holocene Park

    Just a laugh-out-loud funny idea.

    Diomede64 #5
    Metropol-Oz

Metropol-Oz is a simple scene but it really struck me because of the naming pun and the combining of two classic movies.

I want to give shout out props to ncamp's Waiting. It is a fairly unique idea and it captures something we've lost with the movies...those older more opulently designed movie houses. Today's "googol-plex" cinemas can't hold a candle to the old theaters.

ncamps' rendr is really good and does capture the old movie theaters.

I find it ironic, that some of the larger chain theaters go through a great deal of effort designing facades for their buildings that harken back to the old movie palaces, yet the theaters themselves are basic rooms with sound absorbing material on the walls and 12 speakers to make up for the craptacular acoustics. If you're lucky, you'll be in one with stadium style seating which means you'll get a higher back chair, an armrest that has a cup holder, and a higher step up between rows so the dude with the giant hat or huge 'fro doesn't block your view.

As usual, it is necessary to make the choice of a criterion to be able to vote and because I affectionate more particularly the athmospheric aspect of a scene, for my two first choices, I did not hesitate so much but for the thirds place it was extremely difficult…

    Entry #: 6
Entry Title: “Movie Night With Secret Neighbors”
    Artist Name: Antara

For the atmosphere and especially for the emotional aspect of the scene (one feels the serenity and the satisfaction of the mother elf to see its child filled with wonder by television).

    Entry #: 11
Entry Title: “The Creature from The Dirty Bathroom.”
    Artist Name: headwax

For the atmosphere also and the symbolic of the composition (from my point of view!).

I very lengthily hesitated for the third place because all have immense qualities!

    Entry #: 1
    Entry Title: Forbidden Donuts
    Artist Name: Stezza

For the humorous side, the work of modeling and the beautiful render thanks to the light effects with the smoke.

    Congratulations with all !
