What figure is in the martian Princess promos?

I grabbed the martian princess BASE thinking it was the base figure.

So yeah, Ouch!

https://www.daz3d.com/martian-princess-base

Double Ouch when I tried to load- what I thought was a figure.

So, who/ where is this character in the promos?
Any ideas?

It's a shame Gareee's eyesight flatered from his diabetes, forcing him to cease content creation.  I feel this costume ensemble really caught the "feel" of Frank Frazetta and has not been surpassed.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

What's weird is, when I did store searches for Martian Priness, that popped up and was even listed in recommended products or related or such...

But, when I looked, I didn't see it and looking again now, I still don't see it.

    the "feel" of Frank Frazetta

That's why we're here. This (figure and promo) captured something..different.....

I still use this outfit all the time for my G8 characters. Some parts no longer work and I have to do postwork often to fix issues caused by trying to autofit something so old, but like Redfern said, there's really been nothing quite like this since. I would buy any and every new product that could capture this classical fantasy skimpwear style.

Sixus, over at Renderosity, has a Princess of Mars outfit for G8, but it’s a little less skimpy — I think it is more of a middle ground between the slightly more restrained outfits worn by Lynn Collins in Disney’s “John Carter” and the nothing-left-to-the-imagination look of illustrations by artists like Frazetta, Jusko, Whelan etc.

I did some Barsoom renders of my own with the obligatory scantily-clad princesses. I thought the Mistress Arachne headdress worked well in one but the Kali outfit I mixed it with doesn’t seem to have been transferred from RuntimeDNA and may no longer be available.

I was considering that outfit when it first came out, but the description doesn't say anything about what the pieces are or even how many, and there's no information about surfaces and how it could be kitbashed. I would probably buy it from DAZ because I could get more information on it before purchasing and return it if absolutely necessary.

I think something like this would be really cool (a bit less skimpy though in the chest area would probably be better, imo). Other than that I think this design for Dejah Thoris's outfit is great:

I really like this one too (which has more chest area coverage, which looks better to me):

One of these days I'm going to have to learn how to make outfits like that.

the irony is that most of what we see in the media, even Frazetta's material is "toned down" for the mass market and the, uh, "restrained tastes" of middle America.  In Burroughs' original novel, published around 1912, the inhabitants of Barsoom are described as essentially being, well, nude, save for oramentation and/or harnesses to carry gear.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

That top comic background head looks like postwork over a render. Hmm...

And yeah, I'd buy either of those outfits in a second. There are still some of us 3D old-timers that will never say there's too much skimpwear.   ;)

If it's any help, I've found Autofit works sort-of all right with most of it. Apart from the cloth in the skirt and cloak, as might be expected. Maybe dForce (which I can't use yet) might improve things.

What I really like about the outfit, though, is all the material zones in the various jewellery bits and bobs. With a good collection of Iray gem and precious metal shaders, you can really go to town on it.

Thanks for info about this. The outfit has been in my cart for two days because I’ve been on the fence. Now going to pull the trigger. (Just realized how many times the expressions “on the fence” and “pulling the trigger” are used in these forums lol.)

  • I believe the figure is v4. I recall seeing her a while ago, but she got culled at some point.

  • SnowSultanSnowSultan Posts: 3,774

Yep, the number of material zones is a huge plus. I've used it at least a dozen times in my art with Iray gold and gem shaders and I'll keep using it until it absolutely won't fit a future Genesis figure (and then I'll probably learn modeling in Blender to make it fit).   :)

I would buy both these outfits if made for DAZ, sight unseen! I love me some Dejah!!

I so wish that they would have made a John Carter 2, I loved the first one.

  • Nothing wrong with unashamed skimpwear

just need for the Mars Boys too,

Frazetta certainly obliged there on the covers of the Gor books I read by John Norman devil

I was lucky enough to have it fit my favorite (relatively) human mesh, Aiko 3.  I think I ran the choker, the arm bracers and the shin pieces through Cross-Dresser several years ago, but the thong and pasties are simply "parented" to the hip and chest respectively.  The only "outside" addition is the pectoral collar from LittleFox's "Harmony" ensemble.  To achieve the "brick red" skin described in the novels, I increased the intensity of the "Pazu" textures by Thorne and Sarsa by 2 and added pink to the diffuse channel.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I've considered this to be the spiritual successor.

    and..the Gen2 version https://www.daz3d.com/fantasy-ornaments-for-genesis-2-female-s

And i would have sword there was a 'body jewels' or something was, like gems attached to the skin.....

    can't find it though......

But I did come across this kit-bashing resource

I have all of those and they are good for kit-bashing, although the G8 Exquisite Ornaments do not have the visibilty options of the G2 version and are somewhat less useful for that.

You aren't imagining it, there were several called "Surreal Accents Collection: Body Jewels", eight of them, with literally hundreds of combinations. Past tense, because they are no longer available. Jepe has several body jewel collections for males and females, though, in various styles.

Don't forget - Martians are oviparous, so no belly buttons wink

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,647

I think John Carter would have would have made note of that when Burroughs first described Dejah Thoris.  But clearly stated that she was indistinguishable for human females save for her brick red skin.  Besides, there are a large number of mammals (like dogs) that are born without any truly discernable navels; conversely, some (not all, but some) bird species hatch with a depression that could be considered a quasi navel.  it really depends upon the amount of abdominal fat a vertebrate has upon birth (or hatching).  The umbilicus has has to reach the innermost dermal layers to reach the organs where nutrients can be supplied.  More fat means a deeper depression.

Jim "Xaa" Farris pointed that out to me when I once linked an online "debate" on the issue.  Xaa's a walking encyclopedia of random facts

    Bill

The biology of Martians is a little mysterious, to say the least. Like other humanoid Martians (Barsoomians) -- and perhaps all other macrofauna on Mars? -- the red Martians lay eggs. Nevertheless, John Carter, a presumably normal human male, was able to produce offspring with Dejah Thoris. Burroughs doesn't go into exactly how this was accomplished, but apparently -- despite the egg-laying business -- Martian and terrestrial humans are interfertile. So I guess they can have navels if they want to, biology be damned.

Alternatively, there could be an umbilicus-like structure that penetrates the 'shell' of the egg (which could be leathery, like the eggs of reptiles, or even soft) prior to laying, providing nutrients to the developing Martian in much the same way as with a terrestrial mammal, and leaving them with a visible navel after hatching.

Even on Earth, there are, of course, a small number of egg-laying mammals, such as the platypus and the echidna. If Burroughs had been a little more inventive, he could have given the red Martians some of the other characteristics of the platypus, such as webbed feet, venom-bearing ankle spurs, and an electroreceptive sense. Fortunately for John Carter, only male monotremes have envenomed ankle spurs, otherwise love-making with Dejah Thoris would potentially have been quite dangerous.

I think "Jovian" (from Jove, an alternate name for Jupiter) is the usual adjective for things related to Jupiter, so they'd be Jovians.

and would one refer to racial habits as being jovial ?

Leading to confusion between Jovians and Iovians (inhabitants of Jupiter's moon Io).

As I recall, jovial, mercurial, venereal, and martial originally meant of Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, and Mars (and saturnine for Saturn) - but they were also used to describe character traits (or other things) associated with the planet so when more literal belonging nouns were needed so we got Jovian, Martian, Venusian etc.
