Iray Service Bureaus - Any Experiences?

So I came across this video about using an outside server for rendering, and was wondering if anyone has had experiences using them?   They run around USD1.10 an hour, so I'm kind of thinking they might come in handy for jobs that don't quite fit and one's come to the limit of what is practical with scene optimization.

Never used one; but wondering if they are even permitted under the DAZ EULA, since (presumably) you you have to upload mesh information to am outside server.

Connecting to an Iray server is built into Daz Studio, why wouldn't it be permitted.?

Seeing as you are paying for the server time while you upload to the server you would need a fast internet connection with a good upload speed, It wouldn't take long a to run up a bill that would be more than the cost of a decent graphics card...

Server time usuallly refers to rendering time.

Jack offers an iRay render server for DAZ users for very fair conditions (a flat for $50 up to $100)!

But the server is ATM sometimes a little bit buggy, so you may need some patience to get your renders through.

    Hi Chris,
I thought it was total time because in the OPs video they appear to start the server and then jump back and forth into Daz Studio to put in the Iray username/password...

  • I find it all quite annoying as I used to do network rendering via Reality and LuxRender without having to pay some outside source. Old machines running Linux came in quite handy.

Here, you are billed for the time the node is reserved, not just the time actively rendering.  The nodes are reserved, because otherwise you'd have to reconnect after every pause in streaming.

This is referenced here after the 13th minute mark.

What all is annoying?  There's no arm-twisting.  You can still run your own Iray render server.
