I just don't understand how Daz hamstrings every male release and then gives the song and dance that males don't sell. Well, of course they don't if you're sabbotaging your own sale! But ours is not to question why, I guess...

    Laurie

Yeah, hard not to notice that it always happens to male releases, rather than female. I believe something similar happened with the Edward 8 sale, didn't it? :(

Is it possible that they have real-time data on how each sale is proceeding and projections on whether it makes financial sense to extend a sale based on those trends?

Somehow I doubt that since their software show products that they are having problems bringing online in a sale as "free" even two days into it. And all of the coupons ended midnight.

i believe their Magneto based web services and their accounting software are completely seperate from each other.

Either way the coupons show that the sale wasn't planned for the typical longer run. And some of us missed out.

Yup. There is definitely a disconnect. It's like the prime directive of a Core male release is, "Males do not sell; therefore...."

Well I guess they are much less likely to be impulse buys and buys that clothes horse collector types buy. I guess they got the historical data when male pro bundle sales bottom out, sale or no sale. Don't know though.

This isn't the first time Daz has truncated the promo of a new Base Figure release to end the offer when a major event sale starts. Rather than complain in the forums, which Daz doesn't pay particular attention to, (how could they, realistically? They'd never get anything else done!) why not take the time and trouble to file a trouble ticket to politely voice your opinion? Maybe it won't help, but it couldn't hurt.

I lost out as well.. .I saw the gift card announcement as I was thumbing through all of the discounts and diego's stuff but then was just too tired...so I opted in on the gift card discount and I too was thinking some of the diego sale would last... oh well.. now I want to save my money for the PA sale.. this is only my second one.

Sorel, I reopened the page and that portrait filled the page.

Oh yeah, that is sexy the classy way.

Exactly....Number one we need the away team to stop that male sale.

  • Well, those of you who missed out, you'll be happy to know some of us (all of us?) got a coupon for purchasing Diego 8 as loyal customers.

  • xyer0xyer0 Posts: 6,334

I got a coupon, and my historically deduced rule of Core character purchases is: Wait until the last possible moment to buy females, but by males on the second day if not earlier.

Couldn't post a test render, because of connectivity issues, but once I lowered Diego's translucency from 90 to 35, it's the perfect golden skin tone I've been looking for. The only thing that bugs me is the stubble but good ol' GIMP can help with that.

Gee...thanks for rubbing that in dude!

I know if I didn't have to wait for my paycheck then I would have gotten it earlier as well as wait.

Please do share when you can. I'm curious to see him! :-) I've really liked the renders everyone has shared so far.

So ... is it just my install, or is the texture that comes with the Matador pants kind of ... bad?

Granted, it's a very muscular figure -- that explains the pokethrough -- but I don't think that the musculature is responsible for the artifacting I'm seeing.

I didn't buy the texture expansion, so I don't know if they have the same issue.

The rest of the outfit seems fine; it's just the pants with all that weird ... whatever it is.

I don't get anything like that. I put them on Maxx which is the most muscular/bulky character I have and got lovely results.

I suspect the issue is either your texture compression settings, video drivers needing updating or stretching caused by the shape not being rigged.

Also, to those discussing the cause of males not selling well being Daz's treatment, I release characters in male/female pairs. Males don't sell as well as females.

Huh. Well, he's less bulky than Maxx, and I don't get anything like that on any other clothing, so I don't think it's either texture compression or video drivers. (I do CPU renders at the moment, so tha's not a factor.)

I may have a bad install. I'll try reinstalling and see what happens.

Most impressive! Maybe it's the hair, but he kind of suggests Oscar Isaac to me in this pic.

For some reason, the texture is not following the UVs. If a reinstall doesn't solve the problem, look for a tiling issue. Start with Horizontal Tiles and Vertical Tiles. They should both be 1.0.

I used the outfit on Gabor for Diego 8 and was 80% into the render when I saw a tear at the top of the left thigh. I stopped the render, and thankfully, there was an adjustment slider to fix it. But it was not visible in viewport until the render had progressed. I am unable to post the render that I successfully completed. Guess it is too big a file?

    Rodrigo

    Rodrigo, by L'Adair

I named this image Rodrigo because so many things point to it being the original name Jepe gave the figure. All the hair in this render came with the Roderick product. It's SBH and completely editable. (I've started a thread for Roderick, to get the word out about the included SBH presets.)

I am so glad I at least went ahead and got the base model this evening.... I like Rodrigo above as well..I think this is one of the better male G8 models DAZ has produced!   Is this just the base model or mixed with an addon?

  • I know I would like to get him, will be waiting to have some great future discount to get him at a better price.

This wasn't the render I did last night, but it's a much better example of what I've been looking for. Diego, along with The Brute, Sanjay, and Edward are my favorite G8Ms out of the box. :3
