ISO: Make-shift small props for mouse-sized animals

MJ007MJ007 Posts: 1,716

Hello all,

I know this is an unusual request, but i am looking for make-shift props to be used in an anthropomorphic universe for figures like:
3DU Toon Mouse
3DU Toon Squirrel
Etc...

They can be anything, but im REALLY interested in Instruments, and every day items.   No need for "buildings/interiors" as thats already covered.
Mouse House (https://www.daz3d.com/house-mouse-s-mouse-house) props are a perfect example of the type of things im looking for.

TIA.

Why not just scale down items you want?.

    scaled items doesn't look appropriate.

Love the House Mouse props but I don't know of many other things like that - if I weren't so busy I'd probably make a few.

Can you make-shift your own with kit-bashing from regular-size props? (bottle-tops on sticks / yoghurt pots for drums, etc) Or don't you have the kind of props you need?

Im actually trying to think of things i could make like that.  Right now, im making a make-shift Washtub bass using a thimble and a match.
Drums are pretty easy with bottle caps or something, and those will be next.  My struggle is coming up with something that makes high tones resembling a horn or something.

This also helped a lil.. but any and all suggestions are appreciated.

How about The AntFarm's Deadwater set (five of them)?

For horns I've seen small trumpet shaped shells & flowers be used. For string instruments combs, rubberbands, and so on.

Isn't DAZ Studio v4.11 available to download for free? Why are you using such an old version?

It is.  Long story, but bottom line DS2.3 is my choice of app.

You could always try exporting the various props as obj from 4.x (provided you can at least use it for export) and using those in DS2.

Thanks Leanna.  I wasnt aware that the DS4.x offerings still offered .obj files.  I thought the were just .duf files.

EDIT:  It doesnt convert .duf to .obj, just .dsf to .obj.  So its useless for an item like this correct?

If your system can handle DS4 as a separate app, you can load a duf into it and export it as OBJ. Although ds4 has the whole CMS system, smart content, etc, you don't actually have to use those features - you can set up a standard content library, install zips into it, load items into a scene, and export as needed.

But can you have both versions on the same machine?  I was under the impression you could not.

You can definitely have DS2, DS3 and DS4 installed on the same system, I had them all on my desktop.
What you're not supposed to do is have for example 2 different versions of DS4 at the same time, as that can cause problems since they'd share some technical files (unless it's 32 and 64 bits, or a general release and a beta).

.dsf is the format for the data files used by a .duf, just like poser had .obj for geometry and .cr2 for the library file. And the product page states "Works on both, DSF and DUF files"

But in case you didn't know, the product you linked to includes an obj version (Stonemason has included an obj version in most of his latest DS-only sets)

In the case with this product, aside from owning it... how would you know it had .obj files?
The description only suggested it did not.

It's mentioned in the readme: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/58043/start

Not sure why it's not listed on the product page, maybe it was added as an update?

all duf files reference a dsf in data

the duf tells DAZ studio what to load as in geometry rigging, UV materials etc it is like a cr2

the dsf is the geometry file in the data folder which is like a runtime

Could you please describe, how did you installed different versions of DS4 on the same computer.

My attempts has always ended with overwriting the old version with the new one (I have done that with DS 4.10 and it just ovewritten my DS 4.9).

Now I have DS 4.10 and DS 4.11 Beta, but would like to have all 3 versions: DS 4.10, DS 4.11 and DS 4.12 Beta.

Sorry, just realised, that you also have the limit of only 2 version of DS 4 (regular one and the beta).

    But maybe someone else know...

You have to make sure it goes in a different folder when installing. Easiest way is to name the folder of the new install as daz 4.12beta instead of the one it wants to install to. You could rename the old one instead, but you would have to make sure to update any shortcuts on desktop or start menu to point to the new location.
