you could try breaking up a set of human armour by hiding bits and exporting one section at a time as an obj then reimporting and parenting to each limb resizing to fit.
Add a smoothing modifier under right click edit on each piece dog as collision item in parameters.
it only needs to be parented not made to be conforming as armour is stiff.

I was thinking the same thing.
So it would look a bit like this:
This dog can wear any Genesis armor (or clothing). I'd expect some distortion, though.
Or horse armor, even.
Why didn't I think of that?
Anyway, I don't like my own render, but that's not the point; with a bit more effort you can create what you had in mind.
