Consensus on 4.11???

Hi, just wondering what the overall consensus is for 4.11.  I have not upgraded yet and am wondering what people are thinking.  I don't have a separate graphics card so my computer has to do all cpu renders.  I really haven't seen any issues with that.

Also, are most people using both programs just in case?

Thanks.

Works great here, no more shader issues in the viewport, however I use 2x GTX1080Ti so YMMV.
    Steve.

    P.S.
If you decide to upgrade keep a copy of the old Daz Studio versions install files so you can roll it back if required.

Some of us are seeing scenes take much longer to render in 4.11 than they did in 4.10. Not sure if it's a 4.11 thing, or its hardware dependent or scene dependent or what. And not much research going on in these forums from what I've seen, so it's a mystery.

I've kept my older (stable for me) version of DS and installed the 4.11 Beta alongside. I'm a CPU-renderer for Iray (my graphics card is too small for most scenes) and I'm getting the impression it's a little slower, but otherwise everything seems OK.

ETA: And I agree with stephenschoon that you're well advised to save the old installers (DS and version-dependant add-ons) whatever you choose to do.

Works fine for me, very stable.  It has a lot of improvements to dforce

How do you install 4.11 but keep 4.10?  I am not sure and could guess but I don't want to get it wrong.  Thank you.

If you have the DS 4.10 Pro installed (or in fact any version of DS 4.x - mine is actually DS 4.9, not 4.10) then you could (until today!***) also install the DS 4.11 Beta alongside it - the base release and the beta can co-exist.

*** I say "until today" because the DS 4.12 Beta has just been released, so you will no longer have access to the DS 4.11 Beta installers, unless you downloaded them already.

Currently using 4.11.0.383. Generally OK. No actual crashes so far, however sometimes rendering and response becomes very slow (not due to my computer: PC, i7,32 GB RAM, twin 1080 video cards).

Ocassionally won't load textures correctly (eg face is all black). Closing and restarting one or two times solves these problems, so I suspect some memory management issues.

Whilst dForce still causes some clothing/items with a dForce dynamic surface to explode (even clothing stated to be dForce compatible), DS no longer crashes when this happens.

The cursor sometimes disappears, but this can be restored by left clicking in the little box used for selecting the view (eg camera, lights). It can be a bit tricky clicking in the box when you can't see the cursor but just move the mouse around and watch for the popups to light up so you can see where the cursor is.

The biggest bug for me is that GoZ still does not always work properly. Figures/items sent to ZBrush via GoZ do not always arrive properly, though clearing the ZB cache solves this. The most annoying bug is that sometimes, randomly but fairly frequently, a figure/object sent to ZB by GoZ and then morphed in ZB (no change to topology, only moving verts around) can not be sent back to DS using GoZ. Once that happens the problem persists even if both DS and ZB are restarted and the links between them are updated. The only solution I have found to this bug is to uninstall DS using DIM and reinstall using DIM (sometimes it is necessary to actually delete the DS package using DIM and re-download it again. This procedure always works, which suggests that something in DS is getting corrupted. This has been a problem over many versions of DS and ZB and on many computers.

I will try DS 4.12 and hope that they have finally solved this one.

4.11 seems to have a nasty habit of not recognizing NVidia cards, possibly others.  A lot of people have problems with renders crashing immediately.

For the most part that's not having a new enough driver. At least 418.63 is required - you can check in the nVidia Control panel, right-click on the desktop.

Alrighty. Where is the beta?  I have never seen it listed anywhere and I spent time yesterday looking for it.  I am perplexed thank you.

  • It is having issues with Iray on my machine as well as slow load/render times. Keeps blowing up when I want too go fro textured to Iray view.

I changed to a 4gig nvidia card, never been happier.

If it is Nvidia and can do at least minimal VR...your good.

  • And 2gigs is not enough? Can't upgrade the card, but I do have 32 gig of memory available. Doesn't that count?

Sorry, I missed your question the first time.

If you have never installed a DS 4.xx Beta before, then first you have to "buy" it here: https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta

Then you need to use DIM (DAZ Install Manager) to install it.

Thank you.  It says I have purchased it so I will follow the directions to do the install.

I went to do it and my DIM has stopped working.  It is in some "You need to sign the licensing Agreement" loop and can't resolve it.

Oh dear - soeone else reported this in the forum so I guess there's some sort of problem going on.

TO ANY MODERATOR: is this being worked on?
