House prop casting unwanted shadow/artifact on opposite side of environment dome

Hello -

I'm currently working on a scene, using a winter HDRi environment purchased here, in which I have a house prop behind the camera. It's casting an umwanted shadow or form across the dome, visible to the camera, and it only goes away when I delate the house and its associated props entirely. Making them invisible does not work. Any ideas as to how I can solve this without deleting/reloading/repositioning the house every time I need it in view? I guess I could save it as a scene subset, but thought I'd splicit more input.

Thanks!

Using 3Delight or Iray for render engine?  Which HDRI environment?

Oops, sorry! Iray. And I think it's one of the Ortestes, maybe Winter Grove if memory serves.

That seems very odd the HDRI does not have any actual geometry so i don't quite understand how anything can be casting a shadow onto it.

    Edit to add

Have you got the Draw Ground turned on; turn it off if so.You will find it at the bottom in the render tab.

I'll try that, since I'm using a ground prop anyway. Thank you.

@masi3vee, How are you "making them invisible"?

If an object is hidden from view, it shouldn't be casting a shadow. If you are using a ground prop, I suspect you'll still get the shadows, even with Draw Ground set to Off.

I would try selecting all of the house/props objects and then creating a new Group from them. That should not only group them together, but put everything on the same parent, the group. Now in the Scene tab, hide the group by clicking on the eye icon.

Now try rendering. Are the house and props still casting shadows?

As @scorpio says an HDRI alone has no geometry and cannot show shadows, except ground-based shadows when the SHow gound option is selected, but from your description it sounds like the shadows are not falling on the ground ('across the dome' as you put it).

I would have to say I have doubts about your lighting and scene as hiding items (clicking ob the visibility icon in scane tab, etc.) will prevent them being seen in a render and hence not cast a shadow.  A quick way to stop the house and items within having an impact on thios render is to drop an Iray section plane behind the camera you are using.
