Problems getting the dForce multi-dress to work - feeling stupid!

I am new to DAZ but enjoying the experience, for the most part. I got the dForce multi-dress package and the extension because it relates to another project I have been involved with for many years and it made sense to my engineering brain. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to make it work. I looked at the directions, followed what I thought they were telling me, but no luck. Can someone please point out my error? I fully expect it to be a "Duh" moment for me, but I cannot figure this out by myself. I attached a short video of my efforts. Hopefully you all can tell me where I turned the wrong way.

Thanks - Kat

Can you describe what specific problem you're having? What "isn't working" about it?

Not sure if the video posted, but I am clicking following the steps outlined in the document. First I loaded a base Genesis 8 female character. Then I selected it and ran the script. It seemed to run fine, no error messages. Then I made sure that I was not in the Smart Content pane and found the folder with the Dress system in it. I found the base level garment templates and chose one by double clicking it. The screen jumped as it finished, as it does each time I add something. However, the dress did not appear on the character. I thought perhaps that it needed a material to be visible, so I chose a material. Again, invisible.

I then went back and repeated the effort with drag and drop. Same result. Video shows my actions. I must be missing something fundamental, but do not have enough knowledge to know where I screwed up. I can post a link to the video if attaching those are forbidden on this forum.

Have you looked at these threads?

From your second post (above) it seems like you are running the dForce simulation before fitting the clothes to your character - or maybe I read it wrong?

Also, looking at your video, you are not actually loading a dress, but are clicking on "Shape" instead of "Prop" or "Set". Shape only modifies how the clothes drape; you need to load a dress first.

In a nutshell, first you load your character, next you add the dress and after that you can select the dress so you can apply the Shape, and after that you can run the dForce simulation, provided the dress has a dForce dynamic surface applied (either this is built in for a dress made for it, or manually by you, if the dress was not designed for dForce).

Do not be surprised if your video gets deleted by a Mod, as the Daz terms of service is very specific about handling nudity.

I know it can be frustrating in the beginning, Kat, but persist and your efforts will pay off. The community here is very helpful. Good luck! wink

The problem is that you're never adding the actual wardrobe component. Add the item called "MDS dForce Multi Dress System" first, because without that, none of the presets, shapes or materials do anything.

I understood that to be the script that I executed. Is that wrong? I ran it before I selected the shape.

I don't know what the script you're using is meant to do, and don't work with scripts inside Daz myself, so I can't say for certain. Try double-clicking this icon:

If you don't see the dress after that, then there's something wrong.

  • Here is the still capture of what I ran before I tried the dress, Sorry to be so dense, but I just am confused. Logical, but lost.

  • Ah - that image does not appear on my installation. I will see where it is. Thanks for giving me a direction!

  • I thought I would report back, in case anyone has this same problem.

I reinstalled, without a resolution. So I went directly to the directory. In there, I can see the image and the script that Gordig mentioned in his post. However, it is not in my DAZ display. So I dragged it directly the figure in the viewport. That put a black dress form on the figure. Then I went in and double clicked on the blouse form I wanted in the content library panel on DAZ. I could not run the other scripts from inside, so any script, I just drag and drop directly from the file. Everything else, materials, etc., works fine. I am not sure why, but I am at least working with the software. Thanks for the help!

If you're trying to double-click to apply settings, you also need to make sure that the thing you're trying to apply those settings to is what you have selected. If you, for example, double-click on a dress shape while the G8 figure itself is selected, Daz tries to apply that shape to the figure, not to the dress.

  • Yes, I made sure that the dress was selected. I have not rebooted my machine for several weeks. It takes too long to bring up my security profiles when I do. It is possible that they are interfering with the script execution, but I will reboot and see. Thanks for your patience. I am very new to Daz, and there is so much to learn. I hate asking questions that I can figure out, but this one really had me stymied!

I have 11 scenarios to model and am learning a huge amount each one! This is so much fun!!
